About this space?
The “Protea Loft “ is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or a refreshing layover. Set on farmland adjacent to Hilton College, this little protea farm sits on top of a hill and is only 5 minutes drive from the village of Hilton and 5km from the N3. The Protea loft is uniquely designed adjacent a water tower to best capture the breath-taking views of the KZN Midlands. This nest in the clouds, with the fresh mountain air and the sounds of nature around you, is the ultimate destination to relax and de-stress. You can walk out the front door and explore multiple farm trails. You are likely to see buck, warthog, and farm life as you wander through the adjacent grasslands and plantations.
When you leave the N3 you drive toward Hilton College, you turn right onto a well maintained dirt road for 2km. On arrival you have on-site parking and retrieve your key from the lock box. You proceed up the stairs that take you to your holiday home . The entrance leads into a lounge, kitchen area fitted with a fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee machine. From the balcony on the first floor you get a 180 degree view over farmlands and a panoramic view of the Drakensberg. The stairway from the lounge takes you up to the main bedroom. From your bed and the balcony you can soak in breath-taking views toward Greytown and the Karkloof mountain range. The luxury queen sized bed and hot shower are a perfect way to end off your day. Tea, coffee, milk and rusks are provided. In addition, you will have uncapped Wi-Fi for your devices. An extra mattress with linen can be requested at an additional cost for a third guest to camp in the lounge.

What is there to do in the area?
You could stay 10 days at the Protea loft and never repeat an activity. If you are a cyclist, you are on the doorstep of a some of South Africa’s finest off road bike trails. The midlands is renowned for river paddling, boats, paddles and advise on rivers can be obtained from the owners. Water sports are readily accessible at Midmar and Albert Falls dams. Fishermen are within 20 minutes of the best bass dams and 40 min from the best trout rivers in the country. The karkloof zip line tour is a must for the family . Pietermaritzburg is 20 min away and boasts go-carting, ten pin bowling and movies for fun on rainy days. For the golf enthusiast you could base yourself here for a weeklong golf tour :- VCC (15min) , Boshhoek (25min) , Gowrie ( 35min) , Maritzburg (20min), Howick (15min) . For the more adventurous there are skydiving and hang gliding options. For more sedate activities the midlands meander is internationally acclaimed, as it boasts more than 150 attractions from restaurants , historic buildings, arts and crafts outlets and farmers markets etc . Of particular interest is the Nelson Mandela capture site and museum and the Legendary Howick falls. Maps are provided on request, so too is a list of the finest restaurants in the area. In addition, if you enjoy watching schools sport on a Saturday , the Midlands boast 10 of the finest private schools in the country. A fixture list can be supplied on request.

This is an extremely safe area, but for your peace of mind, the pump house sits behind an electric fence. Another farm cottage is close enough for comfort (20m), but it is tucked behind a hedge and trellis fence for privacy. The owners live 100m away and are always available to assist you should you need anything.
