This was our 1st Air B&B rental and it was a great success. Host Nicole was very helpful, friendly, and responsive. We arrived to a bottle of wine with bread and cheese which was a nice treat after a long journey.
The house is actually two rowhouses made into one, nicely restored by the owners with a lot of character. The total space is greater than we expected from the photos. The layout is perfect for our family of 4; our kids (age 10 & 11) were able to have their own 'space' with their own loft bedroom, bathroom and living room upstairs in one side, while we had the large master bedroom/bath on the other. There are also two additional living rooms (one with a desk/work area), and a kitchen.
We rented for a month and made the village our home base for exploring southern France. This plan worked out very well and the village of Caunes-Minervois is terrific, very friendly & calm with everything you need (no need to drive to get groceries, go out for dinner, etc.). Our kids could roam freely in the village and go by themselves to the café, bakery, store, etc. There are hikes starting right in the village and many more nearby within a short drive, the beaches at Narbonne are an easy drive as well, and the Cathar castle sites are all around - take your pick for an easy day trip. Carcassone is 20 minutes away and was a fun day trip but really you get a more genuine medieval village experience right in Caunes, but without the tourist shops and crowds.
Overall, highly recommended!
We stayed in Caunes Minnervois for 4 nights at the end of August and had a wonderful time. Nicole was very kind and welcoming, going out of her way to help us find her house and give information about the area. She was very friendly and we definitely felt that if we needed something she would be happy to help us.
The house is absolutely stunning and Nicole and her husband have done a really wonderful job renovating the building. The pictures don't do it justice!
The area is also very beautiful, the town has a couple of very picturesque restaurants and bars and the house itself is situated on a quiet cobbled street.
We would definitely come back and have already recommended to our friends and family!
Thank you Nicole
Nicole has a renovated two bedroom house with a unique layout that is located in the beautiful old town of Caunes-Minervois. The house is also a short walk from the historic Abbey.
We were a group of four adults and stayed for 4 nights. The house was well located for day trips to the surrounding area, including Carcassonne and Narbonne. We also enjoyed the many restaurants the town has to offer (L'Argent Double Pizzeria was a particular favourite!).
Nicole was a welcoming and attentive host, meeting us at the house on our arrival. The house was clean and well cared for (it was amazing to see the pictures before it was restored!).
[The only warning I would give is that due to the unique layout of the house, there are many levels and stairs, which some guests might not find so comfortable.]
We had fun staying here as part of a longer holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Nicole was a very gracious hostess. She has a most beautiful home in the village of Caunes-Minervois which her husband did an amazing job restoring. It is both very charming and very comfortable. Nicole was so helpful in getting us settled and situated and quick to help when we found ourselves in need. I can't imagine a more perfect place to stay when visiting this part of France and the Carcassonne area. I hope someday to return and stay at Nicole's, again.
