For at extra charge Dewi can arrange airport transfers and sightseeing tours - including trips to temples, waterfalls, rice terraces, plantations and mount Batur. Dewi can also arrange car or motorbike rental if you prefer to drive yourself.
Lusi or one of her staff can cook you a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner; obtain groceries for you, or organise other professional services like in-house massage. You could also walk a few hundred metres to one of the nearby resorts that not only serve meals but also offer spa and wellness services (such as massage, aromatherapy and reflexology) as well as canoe and stand-up paddle board hire.
Villa Taman Ayu is situated on the northern coast of Bali in a small village Bondalem. It takes 2 ½ hours to get here from the south (where the airport is located) and 1 ½ hours to the north from Ubud – but it can be longer in bad traffic.
Nearest Airport: Denpasar: 70 km
Best way is to arrange for a driver prior to arrival which can be organized at time of booking.
We can also arrange other transport needs for you:
•Airport Transfer USD 70 (can be combined with excursion program)
•Rent a car with driver USD 50 half day USD 80 full day
•Rent a car without a driver USD 20 per day
•Rent a motorbike USD 5 per day
•Rent a boat USD 30 (2.5-3.0 hour dolphin watch excursion)
Other Things to Note
Our local staff can arrange trips with the local fisherman to take you out to sea so you can enjoy the sunrise in a small traditional fishing boat, with the chance of watching dolphins and a glorious view back towards the mountains that fringe the north coast. They will also let you know when and where traditional Balinese ceremonies are to occur and if you are lucky you may be invited along.
Villa Taman Ayu is situated in a quiet, typical Balinese neighbourhood at the end of a small tree-lined street leading to the Centre of Bondalem. The village is truly a hidden gem, and perfect for those wanting a change from the hustle and bustle of South Bali.
There are no meals included however we can organise for a team to come in and cook for you. Approximate prices are US$8 per person for dinner, US$4 per person for a light lunch, and breakfast prices on request (as guest needs vary from a basic continental to cooked).
We buy enough food at the big supermarkets (Ubud, Singaraja, and Kuta for example) to cover breakfasts and lunches for a week or so and get our local friends to cook for us at the same price offered to you. Alternatively you can dine at any of the local restaurants located within the many resorts and retreats close by, small eateries on the main road, or get street food up in the village.
Linen is cleaned every 3 days and can be done more often at a cost. Transport and other services are available by negotiation or in the case of being picked up at the airport in advance via email. There will be a small bond to cover any damages returned to you at the end of your stay.
Please treat our Villa as you would your own, as this is our second home. You will find an Information Sheet on the coffee table with helpful hints and instructions. Also note you are living in a Balinese village so please be respectful of the local customs.
We had a wonderful stay at Peters place. The staff was super friendly and helpful with everything and the place and especially the garden was beautiful.
A minor annoyance was the fact that the neighbors households pets (cocks and dogs) was making a lot of noise each morning between 4am and 7am, and as the house has no glass in the windows.... well lets just say that you have front row seats for the concert. Not really a fault of the house, but you can't really ignore it.
A little more speed on the internet connection would also be nice.
It has been many years since I have been to Bali and what a joy it was to go back. Villa Taman Ayu was just spectacular. So beautiful and serene (the gardens are gorgeous), we just kicked back and relaxed – the perfect holiday.
Our days were filled with long walks along the beach, snorkeling (loved the coral and fish straight off the beach), swimming and reading by the beautiful pool and eating yummy food prepared by the staff. (who were wonderful, by the way) We also hired bikes to check out the local area, and kayaks on another day, to view the stunning coastline. In the evening, we’d either watch DVDs, or sit on the veranda and solve the problems of the world, sipping a gin and tonic, of course. Mind you, an ice cold Bintang was pretty good too. Another night we wandered down the lane and had sunset drinks and dinner at the Beach Club – which was fun. We had a fabulous massage at one of the Bondalem spas, and loved watching the local ceremonies and processions (celebrating everything from marriage to death - it was really interesting). The entire team at Villa Taman Ayu were really lovely and so helpful. Thank you so much Peter and Dee, it truly was such a wonderful holiday and we’ll certainly go (website hidden) I loved the shower in the bungalow too – what a treat!
Wonderful villa, 3 minutes walking to the beach, away from Bali crowds:) the villa it self is amazing authentic tropical house, all open, made from traditional materials and decorated with great taste. The villa manager Lusi is great, very nice and helpful. We did not go to the local restaurants as we have been there for only 3 days and decided to ask Lusi to cook for us, which turned out very nice. Swimming pool is quite large and we enjoyed it a lot! The reef is beautiful but make sure you wear special shoes and snorkel during high tide, as corals are very close to the surface. The sea is clean, much cleaner than Seminyak. The only problem we had was with wifi, it wasn't working for iPhones, but there was a laptop attached to the modem, so if you really needed it, it was there. Great villa! Highly recommend!
Thank you so much Christina, so glad you enjoyed your sojourn in the north. The wifi should have been working - it is not made public and you have to put in the password and user id (instructions in the welcome manual). However we will get Dewi our Manager to look into it in case a problem has occured that we didn't know about. Do come back again! regards Peter and Dee
The house is definitely a wonderful relaxing retreat! There is really not much around in or in the north of Bali in general but if you are looking to get away and relax it's absolutely perfect. Everything went super smoothly while we were there and we highly recommend getting Lusi to cook meals. We had several food allergies and she catered for them all. Know that's it's all open air and there are bugs crawling everywhere because it's so open, there are mosquito nets on the bed and the bugs were never more than a mere nuisance. Definitely go to the grocery store and stock up before your time there, the only place near is the bondsmen beach club which had okay food (definitely much better to have the girls at the house cook though). We did however go there for drinks most nights because it was very reasonably priced and they stayed open for however long we wanted to stay there. The pool at the house was the highlight, we spent almost all day every day there. There was a huge cozy day bed for those who didn't want too much sun and sun loungers for those who did. We loved the house after being in touristy kuta for a week, it was just the relaxing place we needed.
Our first impression of Villa Taman Ayu was 'Wow!' We weren't expecting to find such a lovely villa in such a gorgeous setting! The high, open beamed ceilings, overhead fans and shuttered windows all contributed to a lovely, breezy feeling. The lush tropical garden is very private, and filled with interesting little areas carefully decorated with Balinese statues and traditional lamps. It abounds with exotic fruit trees and flowers. We were never short of a mango or papaya for breakfast! There were several great relaxing areas - a large daybed on the main verandah where many an hour was spent reading books; low antique chairs on another verandah ideal for morning coffee and listening to the birds - and the traditional-style 'bale' adjacent to the stunning swimming pool which was big enough to do laps in! The kitchen is huge and well appointed. We made our own breakfast and lunch but elected to have our dinners cooked for us in-house by the friendly staff who could not do enough to please, thank you Dewi and Lusi! Best of all, the short walk down the path leads to a quiet beach where we could swim and see the tropical fish and coral right off the shore! The owners provide snorkeling gear for their guests which was a thoughtful touch as we hadn't brought our own. All in all, a great find and excellent value for the price.
