About This Listing
Historic Brooklyn and contemporary eco-design meet in our truly gorgeous townhouse. Come home to a picturesque, tree- and brownstone-lined street in the heart of Prospect Heights. Enjoy your king-sized bed and private bath, steps from Prospect Park.
A bookshelf and 2 closets allow you to really settle in. Also, check out the mini-fridge and coffee pot!
We have just competed renovating a green and gorgeous townhouse in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. We've stocked our beautiful, sunlit guest room with everything you might need on your visit—a king sized bed, black-out blinds, a desk (just in case you're here for business—though we hope you're here for fun!), a mini-fridge and coffee pot, and wifi. You'll have a private bath and we provide towels.
As ten-year residents of the city, we're very happy to give all manner of restaurant and activity recommends.
You have access to your room and private bath. As this is a share, and one of us often works from home, we ask that guests please not use the main floor (living room and/or kitchen).
Interaction with Guests
We are both from large families (we have 11 siblings between the two of us), so we enjoy sharing spaces. A big perk for us is meeting and chatting with people from all over the globe. Depending on how busy we are, you may see a little or a lot of us—but we'll surely try to share a drink together during your stay!
This is the ideal place from which to explore New York City's best borough. If you don't know the area, the neighborhood is chock full of lovely Brownstones and trendy restaurants.
We're a 5 minute walk to Prospect Park (Brooklyn's Central Park), and a 15 minute walk to the Barclay's Center, the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
The house is located near 4 trains (2,3,Q, & B) and just a 30 minute ride from Manhattan.
Other Things to Note
Our house does have a couple permanent house guests, our small and very cute parrot, Butch and our new puppy. Butch will offer you the occasional friendly, "hello!", and the puppy is very small and hypo-allergenic for those of you who are prone to sniffles.
If green is your thing, this is the house for you. Our home uses "net zero" energy with a large solar array, rainwater collection, LED lighting, north-facing clerestory skylights, etc. If you stay with us, it would be our pleasure to tell you all about it!
Please treat the house well! Please don't put wet things (like towels) on wood, please use coasters... you know the drill. Oh, and don't put your fingers in the parrot's cage: he's a sweetheart to us, but he does bite people he doesn't know. We ask that you don't wear shoes inside. Also, no overnight guests who aren't part of your party! No smoking in the house or on the stoop.
Check in time is after working hours (or before if we don't have other guests staying with us the previous night). Check out time is before noon on your last day.
All in all: 10/10.
Claire and Russell were easygoing and welcoming and we enjoyed our stay with them as well as doggie Blanche and the wolf-whistling African parrot, Butch. The bed was almost too comfortable - you won't want to get out of it in the morning - especially if if it's cold outside, which is easy to see though the big bay windows. The neighbourhood is safe and walkable - lots of dogs and lots of babies in prams - and the subway is close for when we were heading into Manhattan. It's easy to get to almost anywhere. We found a great Cuban restaurant on Flatbush, Trini roti on Washington, and a cool bar just up the road from the house for when you just want to kick back a bit.
You could not wish for a more friendly, warm and welcoming hosts than Claire and Russell. They were extremely helpful, interesting, easy to get along with and all-round very nice folks! The room and house itself is beautiful: stylish, immaculately renovated and comfortably furnished. Its spacious and staying there feels like you have your own private space (nice big room + comfy bed with fridge and wardrobe + nice private bathroom down the hall) but with the benefit of friendly chats and local advice should you want it. The neighbourhood is pleasant and friendly, well located and feels very safe. This was my first time in New York (and on airnb) and staying here was a great way to begin. I would recommend staying here without reserve! Thanks again Claire and Russell for the welcome and a comfortable, peaceful place to stay.
Claire's home is a very peaceful und relaxing place to stay in the midst of a turbulent and wonderful city. It was always like coming home after our adventurous tours in New York City. Strong recommendation!
Claire's place was utterly lovely - just as described, and although I didn't meet Claire she responded promptly to my messages. Would be keen to stay here again (especially in the summer time).
Claire's home and available room will now be my home away from home whenever I am in town for work in NYC. I love the Brooklyn neighborhood so much and her home has the charming feel that you would expect from storybook Brooklyn but with comfortable renovated amenities on par with a luxury hotel stay. It's very quiet due to great new windows in the 2nd floor bedroom and the bed is really comfortable. Everything is kept really clean. Although I didn't meet Claire as she was away during my stay, she was very responsible and considerate to all my needs. A great airbnb find for sure!
The room is as very clean, spacious and lovely as pictured. Despite restricted Guest Access rules (no access to the kitchen and living room: this was not ideal and a little ostracizing during dinner parties) and thanks to Claire and Russell's friendly and polite attitude, I enjoyed my stay. The neighborhood is great, conveniently located near subways, prospect park and plenty of restaurants. Blanche, the dog, is a sweet adorable presence in the house.
We enjoyed meeting Frederique and having her stay with us. Unfortunately, she did not read past the first paragraph of our listing description before arriving at our house. We are very clear in our listing that we are renting a large suite, which does not include shared access to our whole house such as our living room and kitchen. Thankfully, all of our guests who read the listing have been pleased with their stay!
