Interaction with Guests
Variable. Dependent on work schedules and our own holiday plans. Whenever we are home, you are more than welcome to join us for a drink and general chit chat, but your privacy will never be disrupted.
We live in a post-war residential housing area. Homes are generally small bungalows and modest. This is not a pretentious neighbourhood; this is a working class area with many retirees and veterans and a growing number of young families. It is safe, friendly and people take pride in the homes that they work hard for.
Convenient access to various bus routes, around the corner from a local taxi business, feel free to borrow one of our bicycles, comfortable walking distance to downtown and waterfront if you enjoy walking.
Other Things to Note
We are LGBT friendly. We welcome families and extremely well-behaved pets that you will be responsible to clean up after. (Pet only accepted on a case-by-case basis) We are not wheelchair accessible due to the age of the home (narrower doors and hallways, steps into the home and into the basement for laundry use). Laurie is fluent in American Sign Language. Basic French and Spanish is spoken by John.
We are laid back and friendly and want to see you come and go as you please as you enjoy your time in our home. Smoking is a definite no-no. We are generally quiet, with occasional social evenings with friends and family.
We really had a nice stay at Matts place! He is a very nice guy and the communication was just perfect.
The house is easy to find and the neighborhood is great. It only takes 20 minutes by walk from the coach terminal or $7 for a taxi.
The bus ride to downtown is $2.75 each and it only takes 15 min. Matt helped us out with some change :)!! Thank you!
The rooms was exactly how you can see it. Also you will find a little frigde which is pretty convenient.
I am sure you will like it also!
Wonderful home with very friendly people. We felt so welcomed, and Matt was very kind. The bedroom was spacious, very clean, and bright. We hope to stay again when we are in the area.

Matt was extremely kind and hospitable. Although we were very busy and only at the home to sleep and go in the morning, we were very comfortable in the house and slept very well. Laurie was always quick to communicate with us before our arrival. Would definitely stay again if ever in Kingston!
Laurie was very attentive to my needs even though she wasn't there physically. The place was very clean and I had access to the kitchen. The other guest was friendly and I felt completely at home.
I will use this place on my next visit to Kingston
Although I was traveling on a tight schedule and mostly just needed a nice place to sleep, the hosts were very good at communicating and made my stay very comfortable. The description was accurate; the room spacious and the bed very comfy. I hope to Thanks again!

Laurie is a teacher (Kindergarten/Deaf children) and John holds a PhD in Public Health and Bioethics from the University of Toronto. He is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (Humanitarian Aid Ethics and McGill University) and works for Doctors Without Borders. Matt is Laurie and John's son and is a student of Behavioural Sciences at St. Lawrence College. We are a friendly, laid back family that is always coming and going from our Kingston home. We have an old and well-trained dog who loves visitors and lives part-time in Kingston and part-time with Laurie and John in Belleville. We enjoy camping and the outdoors in general and all of us enjoy travelling around the world. Laurie is fluent in ASL. John has basic fluency in French and Spanish. We are vegetarian, but we do not expect our guests to be!
We have welcomed Queen's international students into our home since 2002 and began hosting AirBnb guests and families since April 2014. During our time as hosts, we have made lovely friendships, especially with those who have stayed with us for longer periods of time. Some previous guests later return as friends, others have made our home their base for work and play. Whether you stay with us once, or choose to revisit, we promise that we will make you comfortable in a clean, safe and relaxed home environment.
