About this listing
Modern, architect-designed house, (designed to resemble a small cluster of traditional houses and to blend with the landscape). Bright & airy 3-bedroom house; There is one double bedroom available. Easy access to shore..., only a few yards from the house. Adjacent bathroon, w power-shower. Wifi, TV, ample parking. Stays of over one week's duration by special arrangement only..
Stunning views, almost 360 degrees..Facing south across the waters of Clew Bay to Croagh Patrick, south-west to Old Head and further west to Clare Island; Right on the shore of Clew Bay, sea-swimming directly from the house. Soft-pebbly beach. Horse-riding stables within half a mile. Golf & rugy clubs 1 mile away; Sailing Club 2 miles away. Weekly racing, skippers often looking for crew. Wonderful walking trails, and a wide variety of cycle paths right on the doorstep. Westport's famous Greenway only 5 Km away, towards town.. Cycle from the house or from Westport all the way to Achill on a cycle path!
Westport was recently awarded accolade of "Best Place to Live in Ireland". Perfect location for exploring North and South Mayo & Connemara. Ideal for those attending outdoor challenge events, eg Gaelforce West, Sea2Summit , etc. Eventeers welcome!
Westport town only 7 Km away. Best town in Ireland for family shops of character, variety and quality; high quality, reasonably-priced restaurants and cafes. Farm produce at weekly market. Excellent pubs, with lots of music, traditional and all varieties. The most famous Westport pub is probably Matt Molloy's, (of Chieftains fame). Or have a wonderful day in Westport House! Lots of indoor activities, including the Leisure Centre and the cinema.. All in all, the perfect place to stay!
Apart from the bedroom and adjacent bathroom, which is for guests' exclusive use, guests will have access, by arrangement, to the kitchen / dining area, plus a small middle area or "sun-room".. most guests like to leave the house in the morning and return in the evening...and often to head out for a meal, or a music session a little later.. access to the sun -room is available for short--periods, but not really for day-long or other long periods... the house is too open-plan for that to work well..
Interaction with Guests
I hope I am friendly and helpful, and I have been told that I am, which is nice...and I definitely like to have some conversation with guests, but I have learned that it is not possible to be totally personally available for long conversations with all guests only because that is impossible to sustain..
If guests are using the kitchen, I like for us all to arrange times when we would like to cook.. so that guests have the kitchen to themselves for their meal and, either before or after that, I can cook separately in my own time as well..
Other Things to Note
Given enough notice, I can arrange art classes for groups of eight to ten people.. and can sort out accommodation for all.. two people in my double room and others elsewhere locally.. Classes will be given by well-known artist Breda Burns.. a great artist and a great teacher.. I know, because I've been at her (beginner!) classes!
No smoking throughout the house. Please remove outdoor shoes when inside. You will be free to make yourself a cup of coffee or tea. Please respect host privacy, just as yours will be respected, too... No noise after midnight..., unless I'm involved!
Please do not leave Velux windows open in bedroom and bathroom , a) when you are not in the room, and b) overnight.. This is because rain can start suddenly and can fall quite heavily without warning and falls straight onto the floor; It will soak and damage the floorboards very quickly.
A camp bed is available, on request, for one child /adult to use in the same bedroom, for an additional fee.
looking back into kitchen/ dining room; Dogon and Bozo craft pieces from Mali, West Africal
Elizabeth was very welcoming, willing to answer all questions and extremely helpful in making us dinner reservations at a delightful restaurant (we watched numerous people being turned away as they had no reservation!!) The home was beautiful but you definitely need a car to get there - 5 km down a local lane!!! Setting was beautiful on Clew Bay !!!
Elizabeth was a fantastic host. Most helpful as a guide, including proactively helping to book one of the best meals of our trip. Westport is an perfectly situated city from which to soak up Irish charm, and if you're ok with some driving, you could use it as a base to see many of the major highlights on the Wild Atlantic.
Elizabeth's place is private, tucked into a great neighborhood with its back up against a beautiful bay, the perfect combination of private, convenient and comfortable. As a host, I can't imagine much better. Her advice on things to do in the area, and of course the breakfast, all truly made us feel at home and comfortable navigating the area.
Much thanks Elizabeth for making our stay comfortable, easy and worth repeating. Will send friends and be back for sure if we're in Ireland again!
We loved our stay with Elizabeth. We arrived late but she had left everything in readiness for us and when we woke to a stunning view out of the bedroom over the bay to Westport. Beautiful home with bright and airy kitchen. Stimulating conversation with breakfast. Highly recommended.
This house and its location are truly idyllic. We stayed two nights but would have liked to stay longer. The views from the windows are like a beautiful painting. The bed is wonderfully conducive to sound sleep. The self serve breakfast was great in that you can make your tea the way you like it but we did miss the morning conversation we enjoyed with other hosts. We appreciated Elizabeth coming to rescue us when we couldn't find her place as per her instructions.
It was lovely to host you and Everett, Gael. thank you for the compliments about the views, the room, the bed and the Breakfast. It was a pity that you couldn't find the place initially, as other guests find the directions, set out on the site, extremely accurate and easy to follow. After a long day's driving it must have been frustrating... and sure, it was no bother to come and collect you! :) As per my notes on the site, my time-table may be different from my guests, but I certainly enjoyed the conversations we had during the evenings.. and I hope you found my various recommendations helpful..
Elizabeth's warm and welcoming home is in a most magical location on Ireland's Atlantic shore. The house is beautifully light and our host was most charming :) Breakfast was specifically great with lots of choice and healthy options.
Elizabeth was very nice and welcoming. Her home is beautiful and the view is incredible. This was easily one of the best nights of our vacation. The next morning we found a nice breakfast and guide books for our next day already out for us.

About the Host, Elizabeth
Hi. I'm looking forward to having you to stay as a guest, but I'm not mad about too much sharing of personal information online.. I will certainly make you very welcome, and will try to make your stay in the Westport area a really memorable one.. I love books, theatre and all kinds of music, and really enjoy live gigs.. some of the recent gigs I was at were Ane Brun .. fantastic.., Philip Glass, Tomasz Stanko as well as Dave Liebman, jazz saxophonist; I've been to Electric Picnic a number of time, looking forward to another edition in September.. saw Keith Jarrett a couple of years ago; I've seen Radiohead four times .. my favourite band, well,.. apart from Beck, Sigur Ros and Elbow, that is! I've seen them all , as well... Heading to St. Vincent gig in Galway next week.. and Montreux Jazz Festival, too! (July 2015)
A Motto? well., how about "the only reason we are here is to connect with other people"? or "the day I grow up is the day I know I'm dead.."? See you soon!
