Staying in the camper is a unique experience. When you enter, you feel like you have stepped into a time machine, only with the modern convenience of WiFi. Our guests love the privacy, although we are always happy to offer local recommendations. We've had friends and family stay for months or just over night.
We provide oversized towels, cozy bedding, self serve coffee and your choice of cow, soy or rice milk. Use of laundry and detergent is included.
We have a large deck with a view of The Sierra Madre Mountains and the surrounding hills. It's perfect for sunning yourself, surfing the web, or enjoying a meal.
One flight down, our patio has a gas light charcoal grill. Surrounded by christmas lights, there are potted plants, tables, and chairs. It's charming in the morning for breakfast and even nicer at magic hour. I like to garden, so you never know what might be in bloom - English roses, geraniums, or fresh rosemary.
A true mid century modern experience.

Kitchen is stocked with:
Coffee, tea, milk or soy/rice milk,
electric kettle, dishes, pots and pans,
cloth napkins, and silverware.
Laundry, deck, patio, grill, wifi throughout property.
We live down the walk from the camper, so if you need anything just give me a call. Other than that, it really depends on the guest. We've had guests who we barely saw and others who joined us for dinner.
Lincoln Heights is a family focused, working class neighborhood. It's not Beverly Hills, but it is comfortable and the real LA. You won't see much plastic surgery or pretentious wannabees.
We're one 'hood over from Highland Park - the new hipster barrio where you can enjoy browsing funky cafes, shops, and bars on York blvd. and watch the world go by. Don't miss the second Saturday Art Walk! It's a blast and (generally) dddfree entertainment.
Our property is close enough to the galleries, shopping and nightlife of downtown and Little Tokyo to take surface roads. We're close to the amazing Huntington Gardens, Library and Galleries in San Marino.
We're walking distance to a bus stop, super market, restaurants and shops, although I'd recommend a car - it's L.A., baby! 20 minutes drive to Hollywood, 30 minutes drive to LAX and Santa Monica. Nearby (phone number hidden), and 710 freeways are convenient to get most anywhere.
Our camper is t.v. free, but has an awesome dvd collection, so bring your laptop computer and enjoy!
Check in may be flexible, depending on schedule.
No smoking please.
Let me know in advance if you will need the second bed.
Remember the L.A. City Hotel tax = 14%
Remember to leave the keys.
Being water/electricity conscious is appreciated.
Please do not put coffee grinds down the sink. Either put them in the garden or leave them for me. I'd be happy to dispose of them.
What a wonderful visit! Tema and her family were fun, helpful and welcoming and we loved staying in this charming time-capsule trailer! It was simple to find and we easily found parking night and day. The trailer was small, clean and cozy with a space heater that kept us warm during a downpour. We had fresh muesli and milk for breakfast and Tema offered me a lovely glass of wine. The trailer is private, the main bed is very comfy and my five year old son thought the dinette bed was great but I found it a little bumpy where the seats fold - but you love this trailer because it's old school! Thanks for a great visit! We would do it again in a minute!
Tema is a wonderful host and a knowledgeable, unique and special person. If you prefer privacy - that will be respected - but if you are looking for any information about the best places to eat, see art, or enjoy the real Los Angeles she will lead you in the right direction. The porch is beautiful and provides a fabulous view of the El Sereno hills and the garden is thick and colorful. The camper is charming and as described - tiny! I loved my time at the camper and will be back for more!
Tema was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and always available. The camper is certainly cozy but comfortable. Tema had recommendations for just about everything which was really helpful.
My boyfriend and I had a great time staying in the retro caravan, Tema was very helpful with great recommendations for food, shopping etc and very welcoming into her home. I loved the deck, the views are great, you really do feel like you're in "the real LA".
A great first experience on airbnb and a full recommendation from me.
I work on the road most of the year. My son, he's five and amazing, lives in Los Angeles. We are always looking for an adventure when we are together and by chance we found the loveliest camper in East LA hosted by the loveliest family. Tema and her young daughter welcomed us two weekends in a row, made us feel at home, and if our days weren't so packed with activities, which would lead my son and I to pass out early, I'd like to imagine she would have tucked us in at night. When I'd wake up in the night I'd have fantasies of living in her camper when I am not on the road.
Tema! Thank you!
I loved the vintage trailer, it's a beautiful, well-kept gem. It's small but super well arranged, and cozy suits me. Thoughtful extras like nice towels, coffee, and non-milk milks are provided. The views were spectacular, and the outdoor wifi allowed me to work from the quiet, private luxury of the patio. I was there four days and rarely saw Tema and family, but the chats we did have were lovely as well.

Originally from the East Coast (NJ, NY, Boston) I'm a Production Designer and I teach Art Direction (backgrounds and props for movies). My husband is a props and fine art fabricator - originally from New Zealand. We've both been in LA over 10 years and love it!
I love to garden and cook. My husband loves to tinker and surf the web. We have a mellow first grader who loves to draw and dance. We mostly keep to ourselves in order to give you privacy, however, we're happy to give you recommendations for stuff to do: museums, eateries, farmers markets, and local gems that aren't in guide books. My cell is always on, so if you need anything while you're staying with us I'm only a text, email, or whisper away.
We're omnivores, but are used to vegan and vegetarian diets as our good friends all seem to be vegan, lactose intolerant, or gluten free. We know where to get what you want for your special diet, or can make a quick phone call to find out!
Having travelled quite a bit, I've always preferred b and b's to stale, boring chains. Why stay in a cookie cutter hotel when you can stay somewhere local and meet fun people? Total local immersion makes a trip that much more memorable. We hope that you'll enjoy your stay with us.
