There is a quaint park across from the apartment and a market nearby on Saturdays.
It is easy to get a taxi in front of the apartment. Also we have a secure garage to park one car.
Please be mindful of the neighbors by keeping the noise down at night, and not having an unreasonable amount of guests.
Jan's apartment in Cusco is wonderful! It is clean, spacious, and comfortable. The kitchen has all the amenities for easy cooking and the beds are cozy. We were welcomed by Jan's niece, Rocio, who met us with a hot pot of freshly brewed tea. The apartment is in a secure residential area - a taxi ride from the main plaza. Rocio was always a phone call away to help us arrange taxis and other travel plans. My travel companions and I had a fantastic time in Cusco thanks to Rocio and our accommodations.
Definitivamente. Nossa estadia foi excelente. Muito obrigada Jan e Rocio!
I always stay here. This is a great clean place in a perfect location. Rocio is a big help with everything.
Jan's place is clean and comfortable with plentiful hot water in the showers. No central heat (nowhere in Peru seems to have it) so it is cold at night. Space heaters warmed the bedrooms but we're noisy. Roccio was wonderful! She met us at the home, got us food and helped us sort out our travel arrangements. The apartment was about a 40 minute walk to the main plaza or a 10 minute taxi ride. The taxi to the main plaza cost 5-6 Soles (current exchange rate is about 3 Soles to the dollar).
This was the perfect place for myself and my travel companions. We were well enough away from the center to relax at the end of our adventures during each day and not too far that going into center was too high a cost. 5 sole for a taxi or a 20 minute walk. The neighborhood was quiet and low key. Roccio met us on arrival and provided all the information she had to give. She also introduced us to coca leaves and the tea you drink to combat high altitude!
The entire home is cold at night or if it's cold outside, but this is the norm for pretty much the entire town. It's not a bad thing, more of a cultural difference. Be prepared for the high altitude and weather that comes with it. The bedding will keep you very warm.
This beautiful apartment exceeded all of my expectations.
First off, communication with Jan was quick and easy. Jan's niece, Rocio, met me at the apartment and spent some extra time to give me travel tips and ideas around the city. I ended up taking her advice and found a really amazing little cevicheria :)
Second, I really enjoyed the neighborhood. There was a little park/plaza right outside of the apartment, and I was very happy to have a peaceful space that wasn't right in the middle of main plaza (discotecs can get pretty loud). I found that the walk to the main plaza took about 30 minutes, while a taxi took about 5 minutes. I mostly chose to walk however, as I enjoyed strolling down the "avenida del sol".
Finally, the interior of the apartment is very spacious and beautifully designed. With all of the available amenities and the homey feel, I would have loved to stay for more than just a couple of days. Cusco does get cold during the night, but I found that the available space heaters provided ample heat for a cozy experience :)
Overall, I highly recommend this space. If I am lucky enough to return to Cusco, I will definitely book this space.
Pros: apartment is spacious and secure with well-equipped complete kitchen. Adequate hot water in the bathrooms. Owner's niece speaks English and provided good advice about what to do and see in Cusco.
Cons: Apartment is a full 35-45 minute walk from the plaza at a brisk pace. Apartment was very cold (we were there in January). We were expecting to be able to do a full load of laundry, but we were told not to use the machine at first, and then told that maybe we could just use it for "a very small load." The apartment had not been completely cleaned before our arrival. We did not ask for an airport pick up, but owner's niece met us at the airport and then charged us USD 15.00, which is quite excessive since a taxi ride should cost 4-5 soles (a third of her personal charge).
