Interaction with Guests
You'll be sharing the house with my two grown sons and I, who live here permanently. The cleaning lady comes to work here during the day, once or twice a week.
We constantly come and go by car, so you can hitch a ride any time. My sons and I speak English and love to talk, are self-employed, and have flexible schedules. They're 24 and 21 and play indoor soccer. I'm a birdwatcher. We've traveled to many of the touristy and not-so-touristy spots in Costa Rica and will gladly give you our biased opinion if you ask for it.
There is almost always someone in the house; relatives, friends or employees are constantly coming and going.
We eat dinner together almost always. Join us if you like ($6 extra), or you may want to cook yourself. Or we can trade meals.
On Saturdays we usually go to the farmer's market to get the produce. A must-see for tourists, if you ask me. We'll take you if you want.
You may wash clothes yourself, or have them washed, dried and pressed by us for an extra fee.
It's safe to go out for walks. Although it's extremely close to Multiplaza Mall, CIMA Hospital, and Office Depot, it's very quiet here, as it's a kind of oasis in the middle of all those busy roads. This neighborhood is not a gated, closed-off community like many others, but it resembles one in that we have 24/7 manned security and CCTV, no commercial establishments inside the neighborhood, and only 2 entrances by car.
If you walk 8 to 18 minutes, you can get to these shopping areas: Multiplaza Mall, Distrito 4, Metro Plaza, Avenida Escazú, Plaza Itzcatzú, and a few others. Within this walking distance there's quite a few American favorites like Starbuck's (2 of them), McDonald's (2 of them), KFC, P. F. Chang, Outback Steakhouse, and Mrs. Field's, among others. There's also local favorites like Chancay (fine Peruvian cuisine, highly recommended), Matsuri (Japanese), and Sisso's (Middle Eastern, very good, and at almost fast food prices). There are also typical "sodas" or diners where you can get a decent meal for under $5.
We have branches of all major banks within walking distance, as well as clinics of all kinds.
A walk of about 8 minutes will get you to the taxi hub. Another 2 minutes will get you to the Multiplaza Mall bus stop, where there are plenty of buses going in different directions. It's 18 minutes by foot to CIMA Hospital. It's about 15 minutes' walk to Plaza Laureles. Juan Santamaría International Airport SJO is about 25 minutes away by car or taxi. From here it's very easy to get transportation, as we're situated between, but not on, 2 busy roads. Dollar Car Rental, which we use, is about a 15 minutes' walk away and you can arrange to pick up a rental car there.
Other Things to Note
Parking is available within the property.
There may be other guests in the other rental room, in addition to the family.
Please, no visitors, only booked guests.
We enjoy a glass of wine or beer every now and then, and we do not mind if you drink as long as is does not alter your conduct. We do not smoke and will appreciate it if you do not smoke inside the house.
We do not tolerate the possession or use of recreational drugs. Also, you may not bring any kind of weapon into the house.
As for pets, we have a cat and dog who are extremely friendly with newcomers, and some fish in a pond. If you have a dog or cat or other pet and want to bring it, please tell us so we can ask the other guests if it's ok with them.
The shower has 24/7 hot water coming from a regular water heater. It's not one of those contraptions that you stick on the shower head, that are so common here.
Adela and her husband were very welcoming and helpful. They are very gracious hosts and have a lovely home. I felt safe in their home and neighborhood. They were very accommodating and helpful in arranging a taxi back to the airport. I would consider staying with them again if I'm in the Escazu area.
Adela and Alejandro are both very inviting, intelligent, and fully bilingual hosts that treated me very well. I had my own bathroom, full use of the kitchen, washing machine, and use of their computer when they weren't using it. Los Laureles is a nice neighborhood with Multiplaza and bus stops 10 minutes walk away.
I spent a month with Ms Adela and her family, they are fabulous people who treated me like a closed relative.
Regarding the place, it is a good neighborhood near to a big mall and great restaurants. Beside, my room was always clean and organized.

About the Host, Adela
I love all things nature, swear by butter, and feel sad all day long if I have to wake up too early. I also like cooking, mostly Italian or Latin American, but also new recipes from anywhere: India, China, the US. Favorite travel destination? Somewhere I've never been to before. I've traveled to many touristy spots in Costa Rica, and shall be happy to share my experiences with you. As a volunteer bird counter, I've also had the chance to see some not so usual, but extraordinary, spots in Costa Rica, which are nice to share too.
Reading used to be a big thing before my grown children introduced me to Candy Crush. Right now I'm into Two Dots. The kids are now trying to get me interested in watching movies on Netflix, with not as much success. I'd rather plant terrariums or make anything instead.
