About this listing

Turrock Cottage is situated along the Wicklow Way, with views over Sth Wicklow and Nth Wexford. The cottage is within a farmyard, and close to the house where we live. Ideal as a base for exploring SE Ireland or staying put and admiring the view.

The space

Turrock is a beautiful granite stone cottage set in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. The views say it all and you will want to return to Turrock again and again.
It is a peaceful place with local forest walks where you can see deer, red squirrels, fox, hare and many birds. The cuckoo visits in early May.

Guest access

The cottage is fully equipped as a self catering cottage. We have a woodland walk through our property that guests are welcome to explore. We provide a starter pack of fuel for the stove (wood and peat) and fuel is available for purchase in the shop in Shillelagh village. The starter pack will keep you going for a couple of days.

Interaction with guests

As much or as little as desired.

Other things to note

Internet access is intermittent at the cottage. It is not always available, depending on the weather, storms, high winds etc.

It is simply wonderful! 5 stars plus. The cottage is very well equipped and comfy, it is set in the most beautiful location. The hosts are very welcoming, though never intrusive. It is a real opportunity to experience the best of Irish countryside and rural life. The local farm shop serves great food. Also worth shopping at one of the Avoca shops on your way up from Dublin if you want to have the best of Irish food all prepared for you. The Centra shop in Tinahely is surprisingly well stock and there is a lovely arts centre there. Enjoy, we certainly did.

We had a wonderful time at Deirdre's place and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we are back in the area. In fact, I would go out of my way to book it as a destination of choice. The location is quite rural with wonderful scenery and an inviting fire greeted us on arrival. Would definitely recommend.

If you're looking for quiet serenity surrounded by nature, this is the place to stay. Lovely rustic cottage with beautiful views of rolling hills. Enjoyed walking on trails and feeding the goat and 2 donkeys on the property. The cottage is rustic and cozy while providing modern amenities with fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. Heat is provided by large wood-burning stove that powers radiators in each room. Electric blanket and space heater in bedroom kept us plenty warm throughout the night. Last but certainly not least, the hosts are wonderful people who made us feel at home and provided helpful tips and great conversation every day. Hope to return!

Deirdre and Ciaran are the perfect hosts and the cottage is everything you'd expect given the reviews. we spent two days here with our 7 month old recently and he loved it also! oh, Deirdre had fresh scones ready when we arrived along with a thoughtful gift (it was also our wedding anniversary). Thanks for letting us share your perfect cottage! one last thing.... Mario the cat....he's everywhere! gotta be more than just one of him

I am Deirdre, married to Ciaran and we have a son, Oisin. Both Oisin and I play a lot of music - lots of traditional Irish music but other types as well. We used to live in NZ...love travel, music, art, being creative and trying to establish a happy balance between work and life etc etc.
