Unique 145m top floor flat in listed Plaka building. 2 large verandas. Stunning view of Acropolis. Very quiet & bright. 2 B/R (A/C), living-room (A/C), exceptionally spacious kitchen/dining room. Sleeps 1-7. 200m from Syntagma metro/buses/tram. Small elevator (2 people at a time). Excellent location!

The space

The top floor of a 19th century renovated building, accessed by an elevator, is the ideal place for couples, families, or friends, who are after a very special and real "home" in Plaka, the historical neighborhood of Athens!

The flat has two A/C bedrooms; one with a king size bed (180X200) and another with two single beds (an extra wide one measuring 110X200 and an ordinary one 90X200). One folding bed, which can fit in bedroom 2, is available for use by extra guests. Additionally, a double sofa bed (120X190) in the living room can accommodate 2 persons raising the total to 7. Finally, a baby's crib can be provided upon request. Bed linen, towels, and toiletries are our responsibility.

The SPECIAL CHARM of the flat is that it is surrounded by two outsdanding verandas! A secluded (30sq.m.) western veranda next to the kitchen/dining room offering a breathtaking Acropolis view and an exceptionally large (60sq.m) eastern veranda next to the living room, which is sunny in the morning and shaded in the afternoon (in the summer a small part of this veranda with separate entrance is separated for occasional use by the owner). These offer our guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy their meals outdoors facing the Acropolis. Both are decorated with many terracotta pots with plants and flowers. In the winter the verandas are ideal for coffee or lunch.

The kitchen/dining room is exceptionally spacious and fully equipped. Appliances include: gas cooker, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, kettle, coffee machine, bread toaster, juicer, chopper, etc. We supply the essentials for first morning's breakfast.

In the cosy, wooden ceiling living room there is air conditioning, a TV set, dvd player, and audio system.

The bathroom is simple and convenient. It has a bath tub and wall mounted shower. The flat has autonomous gas central heating and hot water 24/7. It also has A/C in the living room and in both bedrooms. The washing machine is located on the 3rd floor and guests do not have immediate access to it. Therefore, the cleaning lady takes care of the guests' laundry at no extra charge. She then brings it up to our guests for them to hang it. Iron, ironing board and hairdryer are provided. Also, the flat is equipped with speedy wireless internet connection.

This property is perfectly located in the heart of the touristic and shopping area of Athens. Moreover, it is situated next to a pedestrian street (Kidathinaion), which hosts numerous restaurants, tavernas, coffee shops, wine bars, the Museum of Folk Art, the Jewish Museum, and Children's Museum. Syntagma Square, with many banks, the central Post Office, direct metro line and buses to the airport, the port of Piraeus, and the lovely Athenian beaches is only 3 minutes' walk. Within 5-15 minutes you can reach the Acropolis Museum, the entrance to the Parthenon, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Zeus, and Athens tennis club. A 15-20 minutes' walk through the National Gardens leads you to Kolonaki, the posh area of Athens, where you can visit the Benaki Museum and the Museums of Cycladic and Byzantine Art. Monastiraki and the central food market of Athens with a variety of shops and tavernas are only 15 minutes away. Next to the flat there is a mini market, a nice local bakery, green grocers, fishmonger, butcher, patisserie, ice-cream and smoothie shop, chemists, and one of the best organic food shops in the city. Finally, at 3 minutes’ walk, there is a lovely open air roof-cinema called “Cine-Paris”, where, from May to September, one can enjoy a movie right underneath the Acropolis while eating souvlaki or drinking a cold beer!

We usually welcome our guests in person (unless we are away on business or holiday), and help them make themselves comfortable. If we happen to be busy or away, our associate replaces us. Being engaged in the cultural and intellectual life of Athens ourselves we can give useful advice about life in the city or travelling to the mainland and the islands. Our library is equipped with a variety of books on Greece and a few guides, which guests are invited to use. If parking space is needed there are plenty of paid garages in the area.

Children are welcome to the flat provided they know how to respect it. If required, we can arrange for extra cleaning service. If you need a car to pick you up upon arrival or drop you off upon departure we can also arrange this for you with an extra charge.

Please, don't hesitate to contact us for any consideration! It is our pleasure to help you. We want you to have a great time in Athens and come back to your Athenian "home" again and again!

If you are interested in renting a smaller, nevertheless spacious, very centrally placed, cosy, and less costly apartment, please have a look at our other listing (
Also available: an even smaller, quiet & bright apartment with balcony and fabulous park view at Hilton area, one stop by metro from Syntagma Square and 12mins walk from metro. See our listing

DO NOT STAY HERE! We have stayed at many Airbnb apts. across Europe and this has been our worst experience. Maria is more interested in collecting Euro and NOT making you feel “at home” as stated in her advertisement. We arrived late (10pm) on a Friday due to a flight delay. Maria was unable to meet us, but her maid, Ruth, came for a fee of 25 Euro cash. We arrived to the 4th floor flat with no A/Cs turned on during the Athens heat wave (46 C/110 F). Ruth gave us a tour of the flat where a 2 inch cockroach greeted us in the kitchen. We departed on Sunday, only 38 hours in the apartment, again with Maria unavailable. We received an email a week later from Maria stating that we checked out late, should not have done laundry (only available M, W, F??) and seeking over 400 Euro in damages. Maria made this claim without visiting the apartment since our departure. Laundry is one of the included amenities so we are unsure why it is only available on M/W/F. Additionally, Ruth did not inform us of specific rules and said we could “relax” in the apartment after the 11 am check-out, waiting for our clothes to dry. We have always had nice relationships with our hosts and received excellent reviews. We are perplexed as to what Maria could be saying we have done to “damage” her apt. If we had damaged anything in her apartment, we would readily admit to it. Maria does NOT appear to be a welcoming host!

Response from Maria:
I have been hosting people for a long time and never faced any problems. With you everything seems to have gone wrong... I wonder whose fault this may have been! Indeed when you arrived I was out of town. What a sin! I suppose that as long as I have someone reliable to replace me I can be where other obligations call me. And Ruth is not my "maid". In fact I do not have a maid and I do not want to do so because I do not approve of the characterization. Ruth is a very dear person. She has been my experienced associate and helper for over twenty-five years and she has welcomed many guests who have found her very effective and warm. This is evident in many reviews other guests have written. I am sure she was like that with you too. As for late check in fee this is something that is clearly stated on my listing for arrivals after 21:00. Also, you had been notified by me in advance that this fee would apply and if you did not wish to pay it you could have chosen another apartment. You were also notified about check out time which again is very clearly stated on my listing. However, you ignored it and made your schedule as you wished. You even made Ruth come on a Sunday to do your laundry!!!! Therefore, all these comments are not fair. I will not get into all the other details because I find it useless. I believe your aim in writing such an antipathetic and negative review was simply to make my apartment unattractive because you were angry I dared ask to be refunded for the serious damage you caused to my living room tables. Maybe you should have been more respectful with other people's property. I asked you to send me your e-mail so that I can send you photos confirming the damage but you ignored me. I sent them to airbnb. Maybe you can get them from there even now just in order to confirm that the damage has indeed been caused. Never mind. I am sorry I trusted my apartment to you and happy you will never be interested in coming back. As you probably understand, neither would I ever again accept a request from you. I am sorry things went so wrong between us. Misunderstandings do happen between people but they can be solved if a good faith prevails. You chose to cut communication and just write a bad review. It is you right to do so. Well done! I hope potential guests will make the effort to read all the other reviews which are so much in favour of the apartment and their relation to me and my dearest associate Ruth. In the meantime I definitely reserve the right a) to manage my property as I describe on my listing and b) to be out of town when I consider to be necessary.... Maybe on your part you should consider that sharing economy does not provide "maids", receptionists etc. but free people who trust each other... It is not just a question of "Euros" as you say but also of dignity....

Maria's home is very beautiful, artistic and stylish and even better in real life . The position is perfect and close to great restaurants and the acropolis . Her gorgeous deck which overlooks the rock was perfect to capture the changing light on the Acropolis . We were greeted by lovely Ruth who showed us how the house worked which is all simple and very straightforward . Maria's home is spectacular and we would highly recommend her place . Thankyou Carrie, Ben and Osker from Melbourne
