The top floor of a 19th century renovated building, accessed by an elevator, is the ideal place for couples, families, or friends, who are after a real "home" in Plaka, the historical neighborhood of Athens!
The flat was freshly repainted in February 2015. It has two A/C bedrooms; one with a king size bed (180X200) and another with two single beds (an extra wide one measuring 110X200 and an ordinary one 90X200). Three comfortable folding beds, which can fit in the two bedrooms or the living room, are available for use by extra guests. Additionally, a couch that can be turned into a double bed (120X190) can accommodate 2 persons raising the total to 8. In the summer, this couch lies on the western veranda but it can be brought into the spacious dining room or living room. Finally, a baby's crib can be provided upon request. Bed linen, towels, and toiletries are our responsibility.
The SPECIAL CHARM of the flat is that it is surrounded by two outsdanding verandas! A secluded (30sq.m.) western veranda next to the kitchen/ dining room offering a breathtaking Acropolis view and an exceptionally large (60sq.m) eastern veranda next to the living room, which is sunny in the morning and shaded in the afternoon. These offer our guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy their meals outdoors facing the Acropolis. In the winter they are the ideal place for coffee or lunch.
The kitchen/dining room is exceptionally spacious and fully equipped. Appliances include: gas cooker, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, kettle, coffee machine, bread toaster, juicer, chopper, etc. We supply the essentials for first morning's breakfast.
In the cosy, wooden ceiling living room there is air conditioning, a TV set, dvd player, and audio system.
The bathroom is simple and convenient. The flat has autonomous gas heating and hot water 24/7. It also has A/C in the living room and in both bedrooms. The washing machine is located on the 3rd floor. Therefore, The cleaning lady takes care of the guests' laundry without any charge. She then brings it up to our guests for them to hang it. Iron, ironing board and hairdryer are provided. Also, the flat equipped with a speedy wireless internet connection.
This property is perfectly located in the heart of the touristic and shopping area of Athens. Moreover, it is situated next to a pedestrian street (Kidathinaion), which hosts a big choice of restaurants, tavernas, coffee shops, wine bars, the Museum of Folk Art, the Jewish Museum, and Children's Museum. Syntagma Square, with many banks, the central Post Office, direct metro line and buses to the airport, the port of Piraeus, and the lovely Athenian beaches is only 3 minutes' walk. Within 5-10 minutes you can reach the Acropolis Museum, the entrance to the Parthenon, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Zeus, and Athens tennis club. A 15 minutes' walk through the National Gardens leads you to Kolonaki, the posh area of Athens, where you can visit the Benaki Museum and the Museums of Cycladic and Byzantine Art. Monastiraki and the central food market of Athens with a variety of shops and tavernas are only 15 minutes away. Next to the flat there is a mini market, a nice local bakery, green grocers, fishmonger, butcher, patisserie, ice-cream and smoothie shop, chemists, and one of the best bio shops in the city. Finally, at 3 minutes’ walk, there is a lovely open air roof-cinema called “Cine-Paris”, where, from June until September, one can enjoy a movie while eating souvlaki or drinking a cold beer!
We live in the same building. We usually welcome our guests in person (unless we are away on business or holiday), and help them make themselves comfortable. If we happen to be away, our associate replaces us. Being engaged in the cultural and intellectual life of Athens ourselves we can give useful advice about life in the city or travelling to the mainland and the islands. Our library is equipped with a variety of books on Greece and a few guides, which guests are invited to use. If parking space is needed there are plenty of paid garages in the area.
Children are welcome to the flat provided they know how to respect it. If required, we can arrange for extra cleaning service. If you need a car to pick you up upon arrival or drop you off upon departure we can also arrange this for you with an extra charge.
Please, don't hesitate to contact us for any consideration! It is our pleasure to help you. We want you to have a great time in Athens and come back to your Athenian "home" again and again!
If you are interested in renting a smaller, nevertheless spacious, very centrally placed, cosy, and less costly apartment, please have a look at our other listing (https://www.airbnb.gr/2667897)
The neighborhood, the historical Plaka, is the most interesting and charming area of Athens. It is situated just below the Acropolis and right next to the modern city center and Syntagma Square. The National Gardens, where one can find cool and shaded corners in the summer, are only one minute away. In terms of shopping, the flat could not be better located.
Other Things to Note
Please have a copy of your passport ready upon arrival because we need it for security reasons.
Please respect our neighbors by keeping quiet particularly in the evening. Help us save energy by turning off the A/C, heating and lights when you go out or leave the flat for good. Take care of our valuable furniture and paintings. Treat all painted surfaces with care and avoid scratching and staining the walls with luggage. Allow us to water the plants on the two verandas particularly in the summer. It only takes 10mins and we have access to them without disturbing you. In one word, please take care of the flat as if it were your own home!
Host Maria was very professional and clear about all the arrangements.
That flat was newly painted white and was shining! We did not use the balcony because it was too cold but it had a view of the Acropolis. It was cozy and warm, beds comfortable, v quiet at night. No "power shower" but adequate for sure. luxuriously stay indeed!
Lovely apartment, easy communication, incredible location and spectacular view. Wifi a bit sketchy but everything else worked well. Kitchen is very well appointed (we used the oven, hot plates easily). Area is very safe, central and surprisingly quiet given its centrality. Marika was a friendly and professional host.
Thank you Amelia, I am happy you enjoyed your stay in our apartment. I would appreciate if you could send me a few words explaining what was wrong with the wifi because we have not had any complaints about it before. Also, we are using the same connection downstairs and have not faced any problems either. The only thing I could think of is that you were in the flat during election time and maybe the networks were overloaded. I will be happy to host you again if you come to Athens in the future.
Dear airbnb community
once again we had an excellent experience in the renting of an appartement through you .....this time it was Marika's apartment in Athenes.
It is very confortable , well furnished , clean and very well placed!!!
what you see in this photo is the real view of the Akropolis seen from the flat's terrace ....beautiful .
we strongly recommend this address.
L'appartement est très agréable, calme et confortable, parfaitement situé (à 5' de Syntagma) et la vue est splendide. Merci de votre accueil.
What can I add to all previous reviews: they are absolutely right!! My husband and I had the best possible experience of Athens staying in this wonderful appartment. Maria is a very attentive host and gave us very good directions to find the appartment without problems. She is most friendly and did everything to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
We had a fantastic stay at marica's place. The appartement is lovely furnished and very spacious, stylish and absolutely cozy. We got all the amenities one could exspect. The view from the terrace to the Akropolis is breathtaking. It's a place to relax and feeling good. efcharisto marica's!
Our stay at the Plaka apartment was wonderful. The apartment is lovely, with an amazing view of the acropolis from the kitchen terrace.
We were welcomed by Ruth, who was extremely helpful and she even washed a round of laundry for us.
The neighborhood and location are perfect for exploring Athens. There are many restaurants and markets nearby and we walked to all the sites from the apartment.
The only issue is the elevator, which wasn't at all an issue for us because we didn't need it, but if you absolutely require an elevator, we did observe some people struggling with getting it to operate. For us, the stairs were just fine and we would definitely want to stay there again if we are ever again in Athens. We highly recommend Maria's Plaka apartment.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the apartment Marla. I don't know how relevant your comment about the elevator is because I was away during your stay and have not been informed about any problems. Anyway, it was working perfectly when I came back from my trip and it is also functioning properly now. The cabin is old and stylish but the mechanism is new and is being serviced on a monthly basis. Maybe the people you met were the ones who are in charge of service. I will certainly look into the issue.

An Athenian, who has travelled, studied, and lived abroad for several years. Also an anthropologist, with fieldwork experience in different areas of Greece and long-term experience in running cultural programs for children and adults throughout the country. I am fluent in Greek, English, French, and Italian and so is my husbant, painter/architect. We usually meet our guests in person (unless we are away on business or holiday) and, if required, we can provide useful information about culture, everyday life, and sites of interest. When we are away, we always arrange for somebody else to welcome our guests and help them settle in the apartment.
