The top floor of a 19th century renovated building, accessed by an elevator, is the ideal place for couples, families, or friends, who are after a real "home" in Plaka, the historical neighborhood of Athens!
The flat was freshly repainted in February 2015. It has two A/C bedrooms; one with a king size bed (180X200) and another with two single beds (an extra wide one measuring 110X200 and an ordinary one 90X200). Three comfortable folding beds, which can fit in the two bedrooms or the living room, are available for use by extra guests. Additionally, a couch that can be turned into a double bed (120X190) can accommodate 2 persons raising the total to 8. In the summer, this couch lies on the western veranda but it can be brought into the spacious dining room or living room. Finally, a baby's crib can be provided upon request. Bed linen, towels, and toiletries are our responsibility.
The SPECIAL CHARM of the flat is that it is surrounded by two outsdanding verandas! A secluded (30sq.m.) western veranda next to the kitchen/ dining room offering a breathtaking Acropolis view and an exceptionally large (60sq.m) eastern veranda next to the living room, which is sunny in the morning and shaded in the afternoon (in the summer a small part of this veranda with separate entrance is separated for occasional use by the owner). These offer our guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy their meals outdoors facing the Acropolis. Both are decorated with many terracotta pots with plants and flowers. In the winter the verandas are ideal for coffee or lunch.
The kitchen/dining room is exceptionally spacious and fully equipped. Appliances include: gas cooker, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, kettle, coffee machine, bread toaster, juicer, chopper, etc. We supply the essentials for first morning's breakfast.
In the cosy, wooden ceiling living room there is air conditioning, a TV set, dvd player, and audio system.
The bathroom is simple and convenient. The flat has autonomous gas heating and hot water 24/7. It also has A/C in the living room and in both bedrooms. The washing machine is located on the 3rd floor. Therefore, The cleaning lady takes care of the guests' laundry with no extra charge. She then brings it up to our guests for them to hang it. Iron, ironing board and hairdryer are provided. Also, the flat equipped with a speedy wireless internet connection.
This property is perfectly located in the heart of the touristic and shopping area of Athens. Moreover, it is situated next to a pedestrian street (Kidathinaion), which hosts numerous restaurants, tavernas, coffee shops, wine bars, the Museum of Folk Art, the Jewish Museum, and Children's Museum. Syntagma Square, with many banks, the central Post Office, direct metro line and buses to the airport, the port of Piraeus, and the lovely Athenian beaches is only 3 minutes' walk. Within 5-10 minutes you can reach the Acropolis Museum, the entrance to the Parthenon, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Zeus, and Athens tennis club. A 15 minutes' walk through the National Gardens leads you to Kolonaki, the posh area of Athens, where you can visit the Benaki Museum and the Museums of Cycladic and Byzantine Art. Monastiraki and the central food market of Athens with a variety of shops and tavernas are only 15 minutes away. Next to the flat there is a mini market, a nice local bakery, green grocers, fishmonger, butcher, patisserie, ice-cream and smoothie shop, chemists, and one of the best bio shops in the city. Finally, at 3 minutes’ walk, there is a lovely open air roof-cinema called “Cine-Paris”, where, from June until September, one can enjoy a movie while eating souvlaki or drinking a cold beer!
We live in the same building. We usually welcome our guests in person (unless we are away on business or holiday), and help them make themselves comfortable. If we happen to be away, our associate replaces us. Being engaged in the cultural and intellectual life of Athens ourselves we can give useful advice about life in the city or travelling to the mainland and the islands. Our library is equipped with a variety of books on Greece and a few guides, which guests are invited to use. If parking space is needed there are plenty of paid garages in the area.
Children are welcome to the flat provided they know how to respect it. If required, we can arrange for extra cleaning service. If you need a car to pick you up upon arrival or drop you off upon departure we can also arrange this for you with an extra charge.
Please, don't hesitate to contact us for any consideration! It is our pleasure to help you. We want you to have a great time in Athens and come back to your Athenian "home" again and again!

The neighborhood, the historical Plaka, is the most interesting and charming area of Athens. It is situated just below the Acropolis and right next to the modern city center and Syntagma Square. The National Gardens, where one can find cool and shaded corners in the summer, are only one minute away. In terms of shopping, the flat could not be better located.
The apartment is in the heart of Athens and all public transport is at two steps away.
Other Things to Note
Please have a copy of your passport ready upon arrival because we need it for security reasons.
Please respect our neighbors by keeping quiet particularly in the evening. Help us save energy by turning off the A/C, heating and lights when you go out or leave the flat for good. Take care of our valuable furniture and paintings. Treat all painted surfaces with care and avoid scratching and staining the walls with luggage. Allow us to water the plants on the two verandas particularly in the summer. It only takes 10mins and we have access to them without disturbing you. In one word, please take care of the flat as if it were your own home! Before check out please dispose of your garbage at the dustbins situated at the two ends of our street.
La casa es genial. Diría que hasta mejor que las fotos. Está perfectamente ubicada y asimismo es silenciosa. Tenés todo lo que necesitas para la estadía. Marika y Ruth fueron muy amables.
Maria was an excellent host! She responded to our pre-visit questions and concerns immediately via email. And she suggested that we could drop off our rental car in town nearby rather than at the airport. The five of us shared the 2 bedrooms and one bath quite comfortably. The kitchen was huge and well-appointed and the TWO decks (the one pictured is off the kitchen) and the other is off the large living room with nice furniture and original art and photos. And the location was outstanding. We tried several of the excellent restaurants Maria recommended and they were as good as promised. If you want to see where the apartment is from the Acropolis, hang some large colorful items out on the kitchen deck.
The apartment is in a central location within walking distance to the metro and many of the top visitor attractions. The home was beautifully maintained, clean, and had a great view. There were however a few minor problems. We lost electricity to the apartment on several occasions do to a problem with one of the circuits which they have been working on fixing. The internet access was very weak allowing only slow access speeds when several of us were online at once. As we understood it in Greece we couldn't flush toilet paper down the toilet. With five guys in the house the trash can got filled up. It would have been nice had some periodical maid service been available to take care of throwing out the trash.
I am really sorry about the power problem and I can only state that it has already been fixed. These things do happen and we did everything we could to cover you until the power was back. As for the speed of internet I must say that up to now only you and one more person raised this issue. As most of the reviews testify all the other guests were happy with it. Nevertheless, thank you for letting me know and I will certainly look into the matter. Finally, with regard to the trash I need to remind you that as my listing clearly states the apartment is not serviced. Optional cleaning service can be provided at an extra fee. Had you asked for it I would certainly have arranged it for you. Although we did discuss about trash disposal and although two big dustbins are situated at only 30 meters from the building I am sorry to point out that lots of trash were left behind after your departure and the apartment was rather dirty.
Beautiful flat in an amazing location with the most fantastic view! We absolutely loved it! Marica was very helpful and we had everything we needed. Thank you!
Maria was there to welcome us, show us around the appartment and and to give us tips on place to eat. Her appartment is in a great location in Plaka, is spacious and well equipped. We only stayed one night so it was a flying visit.
We have only good things to say about this apartment! The location is absolutely fantastic! It's within easy walking distance of metro stations, hop on hop off bus stations, ancient ruins, the national gardens, shopping, and the fantastic Plaka pedestrian area. The apartment is a lot more spacious than we expected. The kitchen area is open and bright and well stocked so we were able to cook for ourselves when needed. The view from the terrace is breathtaking, especially at night! The apartment slept 2 adults and 6 small children comfortably. Marica provided a baby bed. (I would say the apartment could sleep maximum 6 adults comfortably.) There were several little extras in the apartment: a small supply of groceries (which was especially helpful since we got there late at night and the next day was a national holiday and a lot of stores were closed!), and some toothpaste, shampoo and body wash in the bathroom. Marica was easy to contact and very responsive, she even did our laundry for us one night when we needed it! We had a great experience, start to finish. Thank you, Marica! If we are ever in Athens again, we would definitely stay here and we will recommend this apartment to our friends!
The house is lovely, big and comfortable.
A big kitchen, wonderful views over the Acropolis...
The wifi worked very well.
And the location was really great. The apartment is next to Syntagma Square, but even in the centre town, the street was a place very quiet and very safe too.
And Marika was a friendly and professional host.
I wish I were there soon!

About the Host, Maria
I am an Athenian, who has travelled, studied, and lived abroad for several years. I work as social anthropologist specializing in music and dance and have engaged in fieldwork in various areas of Greece. I speak Greek, English, French, and some Italian. My husband is an artist and our three children are also involved in the arts (architect, artist, and photographer).
I run the properties that appear on this website myself with the assistance of an experienced cleaning person who has been working with my family for the last 25 years. Describing and depicting the apartments as accurately and honestly as possible is a matter of principle for me. Also, I am always concerned about handing the apartments to my guests in a spotless condition. Finally, I care about being punctual at check in and easily accessible by my guests at any time. Usually, I meet my guests in person (unless I am away on business or holiday) and am willing to provide information about culture, everyday life, and sites of interest. When I am away, either a member of my family or my associate welcomes my guests and helps them settle in the apartment. I am happy that almost all the reviews written by people who have used my properties confirm the information stated above.
I will be very glad to meet you, host you in one of my apartments, and contribute in your exploration of my city while making you feel at home!
