The space

The house is ideally situated in the heart of the Medina of Marrakesh. If you feel like shopping (and bargaining), or just watching the many artisans who work in their shops, the souks are just a few steps away. We are fortunate to have several of the best Marrakesh restaurants within minutes from the Riad: Dar Yacout, Dar Moha, Dar Zellij, Cafe Arabe and Le Foundouk. A very pleasant fifteen-minute walk through the souks leads you to the famous «Jemaa El Fna» square and a guarded car park, where you can easily get a taxi to discover Marrakesh and its surroundings, is located close by.

PRIVACY: When you rent our riad you always book the entire house. There will be no other guests, just you and your family and friends.

RENT: The rental price includes the exclusive use of the entire house and cleaning upon your departure. We provide bed sheets, towels and usual amenities such as hairdryers. There is a French/English-speaking caretaker. She is available any time during your stay to assist you and make sure you are enjoying your vacation.

THE HOUSE: The riad is a Moroccan townhouse with a courtyard (patio) and a mural fountain. It was recently renovated with traditional Moroccan construction techniques. Examples of Moroccan handicraft, such as Tadelakt (Moroccan wall painting technique with colors), sculpted plaster and wooden ceilings are found in every room. Lamps, furniture, mirrors, bedspreads, curtains, etc. found in the riad have all been crafted by Moroccan artisans, some of them living next door.

ROOMS: The total surface of the house is about 200m2 and it can accommodate up to 8 persons in five beds. The bedrooms are arranged around a courtyard (patio) and are decorated with hand carved furniture, rugs, mirrors and ornaments from the souks of Marrakech. The bathrooms are decorated using traditional Tadelakt with hand beaten copper wash basins and beautiful Moroccan lanterns. Additionally, on the ground floor, there is a dining room, a library, and a kitchen.

Jasmin with a double bed (160cm×200cm) and ensuite bathroom
Figuier with a double bed (160cm×200cm) and ensuite bathroom
Bougainvillée with a double bed (140cm×200cm) and ensuite bathroom

Cannelle with a single bed (90cm×200cm) and ensuite bathroom
Orangier with a single bed (90cm×200cm), this bedroom is small and has no bathroom

LIVING OUTDOOR: a courtyard (patio) with a mural fountain occupies the ground floor. On the first floor, there is a chill out balcony with a view on the patio. On the top floor, the large roof terrace of about 100m2 is the best place to enjoy the sunshine during the day and the deliciously breezy evenings of Marrakesh. This is a place for relaxation and meditation. All plants found on the terrace and in the patio are typical of Morocco. The house is the home of bougainvillea, hibiscus, cactus, orange trees, laurels and palms trees.

ARRIVAL BY CAR: The house is located in the old town of Marrakesh and there is no direct access by car. After booking, I will send you information about a guarded parking nearby.

ARRIVAL BY PLANE/TRAIN/BUS: We can pick you up at the airport, the train station, or the bus station. A transfer costs 15€ for or up to 7 persons. Ask for the price if you are more than 7 persons.

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: Our house is available from 1600 on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 1000 on the day of departure. If possible, though, this will be flexible depending on your final flight arrival and departure times.

INTERNET ACCESS: Free Internet access through a Wi-Fi connection is available.

BREAKFAST: We will be happy to serve you a delicious Moroccan breakfast for a small fee. Each breakfast (fresh orange juice, Moroccan crepes, fruits, omelets, bread, butter, jam, tea and coffee) costs 5€ per person and is served on the roof terrace or in the patio.

DINNER: For the first evening, we recommend you have dinner in the riad to spend a relaxing first evening in Marrakech before exploring the sometimes overwhelming Medina. A Moroccan dinner includes various Moroccan salads as a starter, a Tagine as the main dish, and a Moroccan dessert. The Tagine is made with beef, chicken, lam or vegetables only (you can pick one).

DAY TRIPS: We know many good drivers that can be rented for a day trip. Currently, the daily rental price for a car with driver is 130€. The car can fit up to 7 persons. Please ask us for a quote. Booking our transfer from the airport is a good way to get to know the driver and the vehicle in case you plan such a trip and want it to be arranged by us.

GUIDE: If you are interested, we can organize a guide who will help you discover the many cultural and historical aspects of Marrakech. A half-day tour costs 50€.

SMOKING: Smoking is allowed on the roof terrace and in the patio.

VISITORS: No local visitors are allowed entry to the Riad during your stay. This restriction is necessary because of the Moroccan legislation.

NEIGHBORS: It is expected that our guests do not make excessive noise that could disturb our neighbors. Furthermore, it is not allowed to be naked on the roof terrace. We also ask our guests not to unnecessarily look at the terraces and patios of the riads in the neighborhood. The roof terraces in Morocco were originally reserved for women.

NOT TO BE MISSED: walking is the best way to explore the medina (old city) of Marrakesh. Here are a few ideas of where your steps should take you:
- Jemaa El Fnaa: Marrakesh’s main square, 15 min walk
- Main souks, 5 min walk
- Yacout, famous restaurant, 4 min walk
- Musée de Marrakesh, 7 min

From our guest-book:
This week in Marrakesh we had the impression of living in a fairy tale. This incredibly diverse city with her charming inhabitants and this wonderful house, renovated with lots of attention to detail and care - congratulations - enchanted us. When we entered this haven of silence and contemplation, exhausted from the thousand and one impressions gathered from the city life, we sought refuge in the library to read a book and restore our strength with a cup of mint tea. It was marvelous.

This riad is really beautiful and renovated with attention to detail, congratulations. We really enjoyed the stay outside of the riad (Essaouira, the Dads Valley and the Ourika Valley) as well. Thanks a lot, we will definitely come back to stay at your riad.

We spent a wonderful week in Marrakech. Thank you for letting us stay at your riad. It was like living in «the Thousand and One Nights»: beautiful surroundings and an enchanting atmosphere. Abdel took good care of us. He is very obliging and reliable. We enjoyed discovering the region by car with Kamal. Future guests may be interested to know that on the road, he stops at craftmen's shops, where you can buy items of their production. Don't forget to take money with you because it's worth it!
Altogether, this was a very successful week.

Coming back from Morocco – happy and fulfilled – I'd like to thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful riad. The surprise upon entering this wonderful space is total after going through the alleyways leading to the riad. The place is charming and has been tastefully decorated. We hope that we could manage to come back again, maybe in April next year...

We would like to thank you for our stay in your house. We really enjoyed living there and it helped us getting ready for our Moroccan adventure. The three and a half weeks went by really quickly, but we savored every single day, taking time for ourselves and time to get to know the country with the eyes of children.

Riad Naila is a gem within the Medina of Marrakech and we would looked forward to coming back home after long days exploring the city or surrounding areas. The Riad itself was comfortable, spacious, and had an amazing relaxing vibe that was exactly what was needed after the hustle and bustle that is Marrakech. Aleks and his team were unbelievable and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our best meal in Marrakech was the home cooked dinner through Aleks on our first night and we had breakfast every morning that was amazing. His team made it easy to book any type of excursion and explore the area. I highly recommend staying with Aleks. Thanks for the hospitality!

It's about a 5 minute winding walk through narrow, darker paths between buildings - we took flashlights and soon learned the direction well enough. Once you are inside the doors, you are in your own oasis, whether inside our spacious riad or on the rooftop terrace. A friendly pickup from the airport but if you have a larger party - we were 5 - and it's the middle of the day, might be good to request air con if you are not used to heat. Wonderful greeting with excellent mint tea once we arrived in the Riad. Our constant contacts were Ahmed and Souad - both outstanding, friendly and responsive. After dinner the first night, we decided to request Souad for breakfast and dinner very night and got her for all but one day. She was a wonderful host and cook. One day we joined her in the markets and my wife spent the afternoon prepping dinner with her - a highlight for my wife which we all benefited from. We requested a guide the first afternoon, who was very nice but as all we did was go from shopping place to shopping place which was fun at first, we never felt as though we actually learnt anything so requested another guide from Ahmed for the following day. Our highlight guide however was Ahmed in Essaouira - absolutely brilliant. We did have an issue with the plumbing one evening but Ahmed was over fairly quickly and cleaned up thoroughly - the issue never returned. We did have some confusion about food as the fridge was cleaned out each day so we never had a chance to have left overs. Aleks was outstanding from the very first contact and throughout our Marrakesh experience, we are keen to return and will look at Aleks riad options first.

We had a great time here and will definitely be back. We could imagine bringing back our whole family there was so much space. Amal, Ahmed, and Aleksy were all so helpful in different ways. We had dinner prepared for us one night and it was one of our best meals in Marrakech - we enjoyed a lot of leftovers the next day as well. We enjoyed making breakfast for ourselves in the kitchen and quiet time on the terrace. Can't wait til next time!

The Riad was absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The host was very accommodating and organized smooth transfers from the airport to the Riad. Breakfast and tea was delicious every morning. It is a short walk away from the souks and main square, which was very convenient. Ahmed and Amal were so nice and helpful and were there for us whenever we had a question. I highly recommend staying here and wouldn't hesitate booking it again! Thanks Aleks, Ahmed and Amal for an unforgettable stay at Riad Naila!

The riad was a beautiful place tucked in the Medina in Sidi Ben Silamane. Prior to arrival, we had issues with our airline that forced us to arrive a day later. Aleks was easy to contact and made airport pickup accommodations for us. Besides the setup, Aleks was not in Morocco, however his team consisted on Abdul who came by the Riad once a day to clean up and to check up on us. Abdul was simply amazing - a kind spirited local who spoke English well and had a great sense of humor. He told us about places to see and what prices we should be paying for merchandise. In addition to the airline mishap, we also had issues with lost baggage. Abdul kindly took me to the airport on the back of his motorcycle to pick up our bags when I called him (he literally said he would be there in 10 minutes). He never asked for any money or reciprocation which created a great sense of trust between us and Abdul. Thank you Abdul. As for the riad, simply put - it is a tranquil escape from the sensory overload of the Medina. The walk to the medina can be intimidating for a newbie to Marrakech, but it is very safe and the locals in the area are so friendly and hospitable. The rooms in the riad had nice AC and beautiful Moroccan decor throughout. What came in very handy was the available wifi and a working Moroccan land line telephone. Overall, if you are thinking about booking this riad - you should definitely do it. The overall amenities paired with the awesome service and location made it ideal for seeing Marrakech. Thanks Aleks for allowing us to stay in your home. Extra kudos to Abdul for his kindness and help throughout our trip!

Lovely riad. Spacious and bright, very nicely furnished in the traditional way. We were there during a cold stretch in February and found it blissfully warm for Marrakech, mostly because of the very practical transparent cover of the atrium. Very much appreciated! As someone else noted, "magnificent" can be a confusing word in Marrakech as the riad is not the super luxurious kind that one finds elsewhere there, but it is certainly wonderful compared to a normal house. Excellent wifi too. But our special thanks go to Fatima who took care of the house, made us breakfasts and cooked us two delicious dinners. She is the most lovely person we met in twelve days in Marrakech. We would go back just for her!

I have been in love with Marrakech, its inhabitants and Moroccan artwork for many years. The first time I was struck by the beauty of Morocco was when, after hitchhiking from Switzerland, I arrived in Tangier in 1979.
