The Space

This town house is a lovely Moroccan riad in the heart of the Medina of Marrakesh built around a courtyard (patio) with a large roof terrace. It has 4 bedrooms where each bedroom has its own bath room.

When you contact us, please let us know a little bit about yourself so that we won't be feeling like we are going to welcome a total stranger, thank you!

LOCATION: The riad is ideally situated in the heart of the Medina of Marrakech. If you feel like shopping (and bargaining), or just watching the many artisans who work in their shops, the souks are just a few steps away. We are fortunate to have several of the best Marrakesh restaurants within minutes from the Riad: Dar Yacout, Dar Moha, Dar Zellij, Cafe Arabe and Le Foundouk. A very pleasant fifteen-minute walk through the souks leads you to the famous «Jemaa El Fna» square and a guarded car park, where you can easily get a taxi to discover Marrakesh and its surroundings, is located close by.

RENT: The daily price is 140€ for the entire house for up to 5 persons. Each additional persons above 5 will be charged an additional 20€ per night.

PRIVACY: When you rent our riad you always book the entire house. There will be no other guests, just you and your family and friends.

THE HOUSE: The riad is a classic Moroccan townhouse with a courtyard (patio) and a mural fountain. It was recently renovated with traditional Moroccan construction techniques. Examples of Moroccan handicraft, such as tadelakt (Moroccan wall painting technique with colors), sculpted plaster and wooden ceilings are found in every room. Lamps, furniture, mirrors, bedspreads, curtains, etc. found in the riad have all been crafted by Moroccan artisans, some of them living next door.

ROOMS: The total surface of the house is about 200m2 and it can comfortably accommodate 6-8 persons. The four bedrooms are arranged around a courtyard (patio) and each bedroom has its own bathroom. All bedrooms are decorated with hand carved furniture, rugs, mirrors and ornaments from the souks of Marrakech. The bathrooms are decorated using traditional tadelakt with hand beaten copper wash basins and beautiful Moroccan lanterns. Additionally, on the ground floor, there is a dining room, a library, and a kitchen.

LIVING OUTDOOR: a courtyard (patio) with a mural fountain occupies the ground floor. On the first floor, there is a chill out balcony with a view on the patio. On the top floor, the large roof terrace of about 100m2 is the best place to enjoy the sunshine during the day and the deliciously breezy evenings of Marrakesh. This is a place for relaxation and meditation. All plants found on the terrace and in the patio are typical of Morocco. The house is the home of bougainvillea, hibiscus, cactus, orange trees, laurels and palms trees.

STAFF AND SERVICES: Bed sheets, towels and usual amenities such as hairdryers are provided in each bedroom. A French-speaking caretaker comes in regurarly to clean the main areas and, if you wish, she can also clean the bed rooms at no extra costs.

MEALS: Dinner and breakfast (typical Moroccan dishes) can be ordered for an additional fee if you want to eat at home.

INTERNET ACCESS: Free Internet access (email hidden) connection is available.

TRANSPORTATION: A private shuttle can be reserved to pick you up from the airport or the train station. The price (one way trip) is 15€ (for up to 7 persons). The shuttle is also available for sightseeing trips you might want to make around Marrakesh. Taking our shuttle is a good way to get to know the driver and the vehicle in case you plan such a trip and want it to be arranged by us.

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: Our house is available from 1600 on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 1000 on the day of departure. If possible, though, this will be flexible depending on your final flight arrival and departure times.

SMOKING: Smoking is allowed on the roof terrace and in the patio.

VISITORS: No local visitors are allowed entry to the Riad during your stay. This restriction is necessary because of the Moroccan legislation.

NEIGHBORS: It is expected that our guests do not make excessive noise that could disturb our neighbors. Furthermore, it is not allowed to be naked on the roof terrace. We also ask our guests not to unnecessarily look at the terraces and patios of the riads in the neighborhood. The roof terraces in Morocco were originally reserved for women.

NOT TO BE MISSED: walking is the best way to explore the medina (old city) of Marrakesh. Here are a few ideas of where your steps should take you:

From our guest-book:
This week in Marrakesh we had the impression of living in a fairy tale. This incredibly diverse city with her charming inhabitants and this wonderful house, renovated with lots of attention to detail and care - congratulations - enchanted us. When we entered this haven of silence and contemplation, exhausted from the thousand and one impressions gathered from the city life, we sought refuge in the library to read a book and restore our strength with a cup of mint tea. It was marvelous.

This riad is really beautiful and renovated with attention to detail, congratulations. We really enjoyed the stay outside of the riad (Essaouira, the Dads Valley and the Ourika Valley) as well. Thanks a lot, we will definitely come back to stay at your riad.

We spent a wonderful week in Marrakech. Thank you for letting us stay at your riad. It was like living in «the Thousand and One Nights»: beautiful surroundings and an enchanting atmosphere. Abdel took good care of us. He is very obliging and reliable. We enjoyed discovering the region by car with Kamal. Future guests may be interested to know that on the road, he stops at craftmen's shops, where you can buy items of their production. Don't forget to take money with you because it's worth it!
Altogether, this was a very successful week.

Coming back from Morocco – happy and fulfilled – I'd like to thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful riad. The surprise upon entering this wonderful space is total after going through the alleyways leading to the riad. The place is charming and has been tastefully decorated. We hope that we could manage to come back again, maybe in April next year...

We would like to thank you for our stay in your house. We really enjoyed living there and it helped us getting ready for our Moroccan adventure. The three and a half weeks went by really quickly, but we savored every single day, taking time for ourselves and time to get to know the country with the eyes of children.

  • Truly a magnificent Riad!! My husband and 2yr old son and I traveled to Marrakech with another couple and their 2 children (4yrs & 2yrs). The Riad was a magical place that we all found delightful. There was more than enough room for all of us to be very comfortable. The beauty & serenity within the Riad makes for a perfect resting place after a long day of exploring. Aleks was very excellent as a host. His communication was always timely and helpful. We organized transportation to and from the airport through Aleks and were very pleased with how accommodating everyone was to our needs. We organized meals at the Riad (2 dinners and many breakfasts!). All of the food preparation by Fatima was truly wonderful! She was a wonderful and pleasant hostess. The children loved her kindness. We also organized a tour of the city through the Riad and were impressed and delighted by Ben our tour guide. The Riad had all the amenities needed to be comfortable while being located in a very authentic and historic part of the city. The location was wonderful. We enjoyed walking everywhere and exploring the Souks, Jemaa el Fna, Ali Ben Youssef Madrasa and more. I won't hesitate to recommend this Riad to any family or friends that visit Marrakech! We are very thankful of Aleks and his team for helping to make our first trip to Morocco a memorable and amazing one!!

  • We loved this Riad and the wonderful service provided. The Riad is located inside a labyrinth of tiny lanes and remind us of a story tail of 1001 and one night. The house itself is beautiful and tastefully decorated. It has a gorgeous terrace with plants every where. Abdul ( the care taker) was wonderful and very attentive. He made sure everything went smoothly. He also prepared us a yummy breakfast in the morning that we enjoyed on the terrace. Internet was good and what I also loved is how quiet it was. I could sleep like a rock :-)

  • We were are group of 6 between the ages of 30 and 80 who stayed in Riad Naila one week in november 2012.
It was really a very pleasant stay. Right from the beginning before arrival with great helpfulness (very thorough and useful) information and quick answers from the owner Dr. Aleksander Berentsen.
Riad Naila is centrally located in the Medina and if You want to stay there and experience life among the local residents in the very old part of the town, it is an ideal and perfect location.
To get to the house requires a longer labyrinth walk along narrow roads with lots of social realism, but at the very end another world opened i form of a Riad that fully lived up to our high expectations set on basis of the information material.
A really nice and well decorated Riad with the patio conveniently covered for the season. We used the patio frequently until very late in the chilly November evenings thanks to the cover. Everything was clean end tidy with daily cleaning of high standard. Plenty of space and opportunity for sun and relaxing on the rooftop.
On the top of it all Najoua and Abdel were superior caretakers, whose helpfulness was second to none. Abdel managed even to get a doctor late at night in less than one hour and afterwards he insisted to get the necessary medication at the pharmacy.
Najoua prepared nice breakfast every morning and 3 times dinner, which was well-made and appreciated by all.
All in all a lovely Riad, which we can highly recommend to whom it may concern and especially our friends and family.
    Best regards and thanks.
We hope to be back one day.

  • This was our first stay in Marocco, and Aleks' Riad Naila was a perfect introduction. Situation a few steps from the buzz and action of the souk, it was an oasis of tranquility and relaxation. Even tho Aleks was not present, Abdel and Najoua the caretakers of the Riad made our arrival and stay very smooth. The riad is very much a dream house with fantastic open corridors, and a vast terrace overlooking the medina. A slice of paradise. We highly recommend staying there!! PS: the tub in the green room is heavenly.

I have been in love with Marrakech, its inhabitants and Moroccan artwork for many years. The first time I was struck by the beauty of Morocco was when, after hitchhiking from Switzerland, I arrived in Tangier in 1979.
