Interaction with Guests
We are a busy family so you may not see us too much. We are happy to offer recommendations and tips about the area.
Bernal Heights is a hilly neighborhood with colorful houses on narrow streets. It's just south of the Mission and near Noe Valley and Glen Park. Within a 10 minute walk we have supermarkets, hardware store, laundry, many restaurants (Indian, Cambodian, Peruvian, Mexican, Salvadorean, and more). It's a safe, sunny neighborhood and has views of the city. Bernal Heights is just removed from the center of the city with easy access to other neighborhoods.
We are well-situated for public transportation.
We have bus lines 14, 14L and 49 that run one block away. They go to the BART station and downtown. The J is a light rail train that runs two blocks away and also goes through the Castro to downtown. BART is a 20 minute walk away.
It is walking distance to 4 lively neighborhoods (Cortland Ave., The Mission, Noe Valley and Glen Park). We are walking distance to many restaurants, bars and shops. We are also near Holly Park, Bernal Heights Playground, and Upper Noe Playground. It is a 30 minute ride on transit to get downtown.
Close to freeways 280 and 101, about 15 minute drive to the airport.
Street parking is available. We can almost always park within three blocks of the house. The only parking restriction is street cleaning two days per month.
From the airport we are a 20 minute walk from BART or we are a 20 minute taxi or airport shuttle ride away.
Other Things to Note
We do have children and you will hear us from 7-8 in the morning when we are getting ready for school. We are gone most of the day, and otherwise busy. We are quiet by 8pm.
No smoking or candles, please.
It's a nice space on a nice block. No trouble parking. No one there to greet me but when I called with a question about retrieving the key, Francesco answered and walked me through the process. My fault for not noticing they didn't list a coffee maker in the room description but Sarah brought down a kettle when I texted about some way to boil water. The step getting into the apartment is tricky. Be careful not to fall like I did.
The apartment was very well laid out with a very informational binder detailing the neighborhood. The neighborhood was a little farther away from the city than I would have liked. I usually had to Uber into the city. The Mission district is also home to lots of Mexican/Ethnic food so if thats your thing, your in luck. I never actually met the family so privacy is very much respected which I liked. All in all I really enjoyed my stay here. Great people, made my time there very easy! One thing though they do have children which can be loud at night, but they are open about that so it was not a surprise.
You know, we love staying here. This was the second time we've stayed here and it's the perfect place for us while in SF. Our family lives in the Mission, so there are no close hotel options at all. We don't want to stay by the airport or Wharf, and Sarah's place is only a few minutes away from my cousin's - how great is that? Sarah and her family are great and we will stay here every time we visit!
Lovely clean bedroom and living room area in a calm
Area of San Fransisco for a very reasonable price. Hosts were both very friendly. Perfect base for sightseeing around North California and excellent location if you're driving anywhere as its close to both the city centre and highways. Trying to find a parking space was occasionally difficult as the only parking available is street and there are restrictions on what days you can park on certain roads, but always managed to find a space in the end, even if it was a few minutes walk.
Will definitely be back to California again, and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
One of the best Airbnb’s we’ve ever stayed at. Sarah, Francisco and the kids were very welcoming and the apartment was great. Since the house is situated on top of a hill the views are amazing and the apartment had everything we needed.
The rooms were very comfortable, very clean and very private. I chose Sarah's place because it was so close to my son and his family who just moved to SF. No one explained about going downhill, then uphill and then downhill again - I felt like I was on a hiking vacation not an urban vacation. But it is a very nice neighborhood - lots of families, wonderful parks. We will be coming back frequently and I expect we will be staying here - good location, nice space, quiet except early morning when I loved hearing the family getting ready to leave for their work and school.

We're both teachers who like to garden, ride bikes, travel, and camp. We love great food, and have many favorite ice cream spots, restaurants and bakeries to recommend. We try to get to our farmer's market every week at Alemany. It's the oldest markets in California, the biggest in SF, and has a huge variety of local fruits (peaches, apples, strawberries) as well as Asian greens, and so much else! We've traveled around Central and South America, bits of Europe, and the Caribbean. We bike around town and mostly take public transit, but we also love going on weekend adventures all over the state.
