Fig Heaven Bungalow, Pool & Jacuzzi

Cabin - Private room · Kohanaiki Rd, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740, United States

For the dates from October 5th through October 18, there is a minimum stay of six nights.

The Space

Fig Heaven is a private bungalow overlooking the fig orchard, the gardens, and the ocean beyond. There is a queen sized bed, a dresser, a large chair w/ottoman and a desk with a chair. There is also a clothes rack, a place to hang your clothes. The structure is designed so that two walls are solid and two walls are screened to give it an indoor/outdoor feel. It is protected from the wind and rain, and has roll down shades for privacy.

We have a healing sanctuary called Banyan Tree Sanctuary, and this is one of several structures on the property. You share a bath house with shower, sink and two flushing toilets, and a full kitchen in the community area. You are allowed to eat any fruit that grows on the property, within reason, and can purchase veggies from the organic gardens, if available, as well.

Our fee is $77 per night for 2 guests, plus 13.42% Hawaii accommodation tax (due upon arrival).

We are primarily a vegetarian community, and we ask that while you stay here, you refrain from cooking any beef, lamb, chicken, fish, turkey or pork products, including any type of bacon. We are also a NO SMOKING facility, so we ask that you please do not smoke in any part of Banyan Tree or on the grounds.

There is a pool that is salt charged (no chlorine) and an ozonated hot tub that you can use, and property-wide wifi. There is also a 30' diameter dodecahedron we call the Mother Ship that has a 70" big screen TV and a great DVD collection, (and subscriptions to Netflix streaming and Amazon Prime) and you can use it for yoga, meditation, or just hanging out.

We encourage you to look at the photos and inquire about any questions that you may have. Guests staying with us for two weeks get one free night's stay.

The closest beaches are a 15 minute drive from our door, and are in the yacht harbor area. One is a very nice snorkel beach, especially in the morning, the other is a turtle sanctuary with a broad expanse of white sand. One of the top ten beaches on the Big Island is only a 25 minute drive from our door, and that is Kua Bay, about 4.5 miles north of the airport. We have a limited supply of snorkels, masks, and boogie boards that you are free to use on a first come, first serve basis. We ask that you rinse off the equipment with fresh water when you return from the beach, and if there are several guests staying here at the same time, to give everyone a chance to use the equipment.

We provide various healing modalities; many styles of massage therapy, yoga, meditation, dietary guidelines, etc. and we can set up your dolphin tour experience/manta ray night dive as well. We are long-time residents of the Big Island and know many special places that we can direct you to. We are only a 20 minute drive to the airport. We strongly encourage renting a car, as we are quite remote from any stores or beaches, and you would need to drive to get to those locations. Taxi fees are prohibitive; if you are unable to rent a car, it's probably best that you choose another location.

Because we are a healing sanctuary and retreat space, and many people come to us for the peace, quiet, healing and tranquility that we are able to offer our guests, we have chosen to limit the ages of children that visit us to 12 years or older. We are simply not set up to accommodate families with younger children, and we apologize for that.

Come to Banyan Tree Sanctuary to experience a different level of peacefulness on your next Hawaiian vacation!

Guest Access

The entire property and the pool Jacuzzi, sauna, Mother Ship; and with some guidance, areas beyond our property, such as the lava cave and enchanted forest.

Interaction with Guests

As little or as much as our guests would like.

The Neighborhood

This is an exceptionally beautiful part of the Kona side of the island, it is actually called Kona Heavens! We are in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood and we are the very last house on a dead end road, so we truly are a sanctuary. There are wonderful places to stroll right out of your door, and it is a very safe neighborhood.

Getting around

There is no public transportation to us. Please plan on renting a car.

Other Things to Note

At 1100', we are a little cooler than downtown, and get more rain, so bring an extra sweater and a poncho/umbrella. There is always sun to be found somewhere on the island, but it may not be right here. A headlamp/flashlight is also a good idea, although we have extras if you forget yours. Also a sturdy pair of shoes to walk on the paths is a great idea.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Had a great experience staying in this cute and homely tent. In addition to a real bed, they provided a sleeping bag as well just in case you wish to sleep inside a sleeping bag. The tent itself can probably fit 2 people but is ideal for 1 person (I believe they only allow one person in the tent.) It is underneath a canopy so if it rains, the canopy and the tent itself will keep you dry. It is roughly a 150m walk from the Mothership and is in a secluded area that gives 100% privacy. Make sure to bring a flashlight or a headlamp since there is no electricity inside the tent itself (though the bathroom does!) I saw a sea of stars every night and the sunset was absolutely stunning (sunrise was blocked by the mountain.) Every morning the birds chirping and singing woke me up for another refreshing day in paradise. WiFi is free but is only accessible in the common areas (the tent is too far away to receive signal which was fine with me. My cell phone had 3G service inside the tent.) Overall it is easy to find the property (it's a 3-4 acre property with pool, huge mansion, jacuzzi, huge garden, etc.) It is a 8-10 minute drive to Kona center. Amenities (jacuzzi, pool, organic fruits) were all awesome! I had a rental car and parking is free. All the facilities were always always clean and I have no complaints. You get your own space for groceries inside the refrigerator and for soaps/brush inside the bathroom. I brought bug spray with me and that helped a lot! I live in an urban environment and found staying inside this lovely tent to be refreshing and relaxing! If you've never camped before, this would be a good introduction. This place is not brand new but has been maintained very very very well!

  • I enjoyed my stay at this BnB. I loved the layout of the open air kitchen and lounge room, it had a great view over the garden to the ocean and it was nice falling asleep and waking up in the heart of the garden in my tent (which had a really comfy bed). The owners were really nice too and I had a great massage from Amiracle. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Wow. Just wow! My stay at the Banyan Tree Sanctuary was one of my best experiences on during my vacation on Hawaii. Amiracle, Benjamin, Raybo and all other guests warmly welcomed me and included me in all their events (thanks for that amazing potluck!). The sanctuary is just an amazing place to stay, with a great overview of the Kona area and the ocean. The tent was very clean, decorated with fresh flowers and had everything a single traveller would need, a comfy double layer mattress and a little table. I was allowed and encouraged to use the common areas, including pool, jacuzzi, and the big kitchen with all sorts of fruits that grow on the property (like fresh mangos, bananas, papayas, grapefruits, macadamia nuts...) available for free! Just make sure you rent a car, but you want to do that anyway, since there is so much to see on the Big Island. Just ask the people hanging around there for the best insider places and inspirational trips (thanks for showing me the queens bath!)

  • I wanted to get away from City Life and get back to Nature.
For one week, I stayed in the tent which was under the tree and completely private space in the property.

I woke up with sounds of birds singing every morning and went to bed when the Sun is down. It was wonderful to feel Nature!

This place was hand made by the owner (the buildings & organic gardens), surrounded by Nature, peaceful, quiet, and beautiful place to stay!

It was very important for me as a female solo traveller to stay safe place. When I arrived, warm welcome from the hosts as well as written my name on the community board to be welcomed.
Beautiful Hibiscus flower was decorated by the bed which made me really feel that I was in Hawaii.

This place offered me not only feel safe but felt like at home!
Friendly hosts, excellent hospitality, and convenient location!
Great place to stay! I will definitely stay this place again!

  • I really had such a healing, restful and fun stay at the Banyan Tree. I have stayed in many studios and hotels in the Kona area but have never really been able to rest and relax, mainly because of surrounding noise. I had the sweetest little tent; clean, comfortable and cosy and slept like a baby, looking up at the starts and hearing the birds in the morning. You can just tell everything at this retreat sanctuary is done with care and consideration. I had the use of a separate shared toilet and bathhouse and it was very comfortable and clean. The communal kitchen is well-equipped (it's just so great to be able to eat the food you want to when you're on vacation) and I met people who had so much to share about health, food and a love for travel and the Big Island. The key to this sanctuary is that it is owned and run by people who are dedicated to healing and quality of life and provide excellent healing services such as bodywork and yoga. I had deep tissue massage with Raybo and it was truely exceptional work.( I am a masseuse myself so I feel I know good work when I experience it). Raybo is a very seasoned and compassionate bodyworker and I highly recommend him. He does amazing deep tissue work which is great for any chronic injuries but is also so compassionate if you're going through any emotionally based issues. Having bodywork really amplifies your visit to the Big Island because it helps you "sink in" and arrive on the island. I also had an Acromassage with Benjamin and that was also an amazing healing experience. These are gifted, dedicated world-class therapists who provide a joyful context for the Big Island and it's capacity to connect you with your health, joy and wellbeing. I can't see myself staying anywhere else now when I visit. It's incredible value for what you receive, which is in fact priceless. I'm back in Los Angeles now but I feel a huge weight lifted from me from the bodywork and experience I had at the Banyan Tree. It's a combination of a beautiful place and people.

  • I stayed at the Banyan Tree for three nights when I first arrived on the Big Island and I can honestly say that the welcome I received was second to none. Raybo went above and beyond the call of duty as a host, and I felt spoiled each and every day I was there. Everyone was wonderfully friendly and generous, and the scenery was stunning!

The tent is beautifully situated, nestled among the trees in a secluded corner of the property, with a super comfortable bed, and the facilities not only met all my needs but exceeded all my expectations.

If you are visiting Kona you MUST stay here! And if you plan to rent a car and head out each day for the beach or sightseeing, make sure you also make time to stay on the property for part of your trip so you can take in the beautiful garden, visit the lava cave, do some yoga in the Mothership, book a session of Acrosage with Benjamin, and enjoy watching the night sky full of stars from the comfort of the hot tub. If you want a magical, relaxing experience, this is the place for you.

    Response from Rae:

Mahalo Kristjan and Reeli, it was very nice to meet you and your family. I hope you got to spend a lot of time in the water with the dolphins!

  • Staying with Raybo Ji at the Banyan Tree Sanctuary is one of the highlights of my trip to the Big Island. Do you like fresh fruit (figs, papaya, bananas, etc)?? Then you gotta stay here! I received two transformational massages from Raybo Ji himself at a steal of a deal, and got to relax and unwind in the sauna afterwards. Also, I Love to play disc golf, and they happen to have a 9 hole on the property as well. If I could live here full time I probably would. If you are coming to the big island, you must stay here. But I warn you, you'll probably never leave! This is a great place to heal, unwind and live the island life.

    Response from Rae:

Jason I am so happy to have met you and really gotten to know you, brother. I often find that I have a bit of a harder time connecting with men, but lately I have been meeting some extraordinary men, and I count you in that small but growing circle. Mahalo for your energy, wisdom, receptivity and ability to go deep into the mystery!

  • Von ersten bis zum letzten Augenblick war alles himmlisch.
Wir hatten dort eine großartige Zeit.

Self-employed (massage therapy, raw food instruction), Banyan Tree Sanctuary (business manager)
I am the business manager of a beautiful piece of property in Kailua Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, called Banyan Tree Sanctuary. I have traveled extensively in the US, and have spent time in every single state except for Alaska. I have also been to Canada, New Zealand and Fiji. I am largely a raw vegan, and have been a massage therapist for over 30 years. I am a very strong advocate for compassion to all living things, and so choose not to cause any suffering regarding my diet and lifestyle. Living on this property allows me to eat fresh ripe raw organic fruits and vegetables every single day, and I am incredibly grateful for that. To be able to go out in the morning and find ripe papayas, lilikoi, mango, and so much more, is a true gift. I am also a musician (percussion, guitar) and singer/songwriter. We are starting to have some dances at Banyan Tree Sanctuary, and our guests are always welcome to join with any of our classes and events. My motto is simple: love everyone, and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Life is way too short to spend any time doing anything else! This property is very special, and even with professional pictures, you can't get the full impact of this place without actually staying here. We currently have seven spaces available, from rooms on teh first floor to a deluxe, complete suite with it's own private kitchen area, bathroom and lanai. We look forward to having you as our guests!
