I had a great time at Mike's place and have extended my stay for a month (at-least) for the time being. Mike was kind enough to share his knowledge about the areas around and that helped me shop for my daily needs.
The place was well kept, common areas were clean and my room was very tidy too.
I would recommend the place to anyone without second thoughts!
The bedroom was large and even has a desk for reading , better than it showed on pictures. And Nina and mike are really easygoing and considerate hosts. Mike left me a towel at door handle without waking me up in the morning. If I go to Bellevue again, I feel like staying at their house again.
Nina was a great host. She was very helpful and accommodating to say the least. I made a request to reserve (for my dad) at a very last minute basis and Nina replied to me almost instantly. My dad arrived at her house around 11pm (due to late night flight arrival) whilst she patiently waited for his arrival. Overall, my dad had a very satisfying stay at Nina's accommodation and I would gladly book again if needed. Thank you Nina!
On the positive: host gave me lifts into Redmond, gave useful advice, and lent me a bike to use for the month I was there.
However, there were some negatives about the stay:
Loud squeaking floor boards from room above, would keep me awake at night.
Bed in my room squeaked loudly every time I rolled over.
Room was dusty when I arrive.
Dusty wardrobe, I had to clean it out and re-wash my clothes after I got dust all over them. I found bits of old mouldy food in wardrobe shelves.
Ad didn’t say that owners didn’t live there, and that all other rooms are hired out
Ad didn’t say that tenants are expected to provide own toilet paper.
Ad showed a photo of a double/queen bed, but it ended up being a single bed.
Ad indicated “room #4”, but I ended up in room #5.
Other tenant told me how a previous tenant had to be evicted, and that the owner had to get his lawyer involved.
Other tenant kept telling me about his personal medical problems.
On one occasion, other tenant was swearing and yelling in the kitchen.
Other tenant would storm downstairs and reset the Internet modem whenever the Internet went slow.
Other tenant strung Ethernet cable down the hallway, left it to be tripped on. Host didn’t do anything about it.
Lawns not mowed for weeks. When they were mowed, cuttings left on the lawn.
Only plastic cutlery. No normal sized chopping board. No sharp knives.
Kitchen is dark, with poor lighting. Asked the host to have extra light globes installed (implying more than one), but only one extra light installed, so the kitchen remained dark. The kitchen was not well equipped or comfortable to cook in.
There were house renovation pieces in living room and in the back patio.
There was a horrid putrid smell in bathroom, complained to host, smell remained. someone, not sure who, put air freshener in bathroom.
Bathtub mouldy, and was never cleaned properly while I was there. Another tenant was always splashing water all over the toilet and vanity - was just weird.
Whilst the positives were nice, unfortunately for me the negatives outweighed them. Maybe for the cheap price this was good value for money, but I’ve stayed at similar’ish priced AB&B's around the world and found them to be much cleaner and a more pleasant stay. So overall I wouldn’t recommend this room, and suggest you query the hosts about the issues I’ve listed before you stay.
Host is a biggest difference to make in this stay. Very nice gentleman and no issue in checking in. Description as explained. It is residential area and few minutes away from one of Microsoft building which makes my commute very easy to different MS buildings. Shuttle can take you to any building. Host is such a nice guy that he even took me for grocery store in his own car. Thanks Mike.
Nina was always very responsive and helpful when I was arranging accommodation for my friend from out of town. She has been very friendly and provided great help in all the various things that someone coming from far away would need. We are very grateful to have found such a great host!
