About This Listing
A lovely newbuilt house in a gorgeous location. Mountains all around and big south facing conservatory and garden. See the sun rise and set here in Croi Danu, and in between, enjoy all the beautiful day trips that Kerry has to offer.
This is a beautifully finished house, with three good sized bedrooms - 2 ensuite - a large living room, a big fully appointed kitchen/diner opening into a 15ftx15ft conservatory that brings the outside in. The whole living area of the house is full of light. The thing that I love about this place is that you start the day with breakfast, drinking in the changing light on the mountains and at the end of your day out, it is lovely to come back to the quiet and stillness here and watch the sun setting as you sip a glass of wine in the conservatory!
There is ample space for parking several cars here. The whole house and garden is yours to enjoy.
Interaction with Guests
I will mostly be available to answer any questions you may have about the house, the area, possible excursions and helpful contacts in the area. If I am away, I will ensure that someone else is available to help. But above all I will leave you to make yourselves at home here in your own way.
The house is on the famous Ring of Kerry, with so many beaches, mountain trails, woodland walks only a short drive from here. Situated down a quiet boireen, yet very close to town - 10 minute walk - gives you the benefit of complete peace & quiet, with the option to enjoy the pubs and restaurants a short walk away. Cromane beach is a 10 minute drive away - last summer I swam there almost every day, the water like silk on the skin. We are 20 mins from Killarney town & National Park, 25 mins from Kerry airport, 20 minutes from the expansive and wild Rossbeigh beach, where you can walk for miles or hire a horse from nearby Burke's stables. The town of Killorglin is a friendly one, with someone always ready to help with directions. There is a library, and next door a tourist information office, where the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly, and a couple of cafes in the plaza, to while away an hour and people (email hidden)ere are several pubs, some with live music, and some good restaurants. In early June the KFEST is on in town, with art, music, and all sorts of entertainment and interesting things to do. In August there is the famous Puck Fair, when a puck goat is crowned King for a few days - I kid you not! - and the streets are filled with music, song, dance and stalls selling all sorts of interesting and exotic items.
It's really best to have a car here, so that you can get the maximum benefit from all that there is to do and see in Kerry. But there are buses from Killorglin to Killarney and Tralee. There are buses from Kerry airport to Killarney town. From Killarney there are trains and buses to many destinations. I can sometimes be available to do a pick up from Killorglin town or from Killarney, if necessary, and if arranged in advance.
Other Things to Note
Kerry is one of the most incredibly beautiful and magical, mystical places to visit in Ireland, giving you mountains, lakes, rivers and the wild Atlantic to feast your senses on.
No smoking in the house. Sand buckets provided outside for smokers.
Have a lovely time here - make yourselves at home and enjoy!
Thank you so much Shayla for EVERYTHING! This was our 'home away from home' in every way. Our host Shayla was absolutely helpful, made us feel welcome and provided us with just about everything you could ever want in a vacation. The property was spotless, comfortable, everything accessible, maps for everywhere and anything to do around the area and most of all, the location was fantastic with the most amazing outlook ever imagined. If there was any negative at all, it would be that we weren't there long enough - 5 days wasn't enough to enjoy it all. Unfortunately the weather wasn't our friend this time of year, but we made the most of what we could. The great thing about this house was that if the weather wasn't great, you could stay in the house, enjoy the warmth of a fire, play games and there is so much space in the house, you always found a spot to relax. In my opinion, anyone who stays here and didn't enjoy it, then it's your own fault. Would we recommend this property to anyone...YES absolutely! As I said, this is a 'Home away from Home'. Thanks again Shaya. You were absolutely wonderful to us, supplying everything and more and your beautiful house made our holiday in Killorglin something to not only remember, but brag about.
Thank you for your kind words Lori. I am so glad that staying here made you time in Ireland so enjoyable, especially considering the weather you got. That Sunday must have been the wettest day this year!!
It was lovely to have you - I hope that you make it back here again some day.
Warm wishes for you and your family,
This is indeed a great house with wonderful views and sun, and very well located for all activities, while still being very quiet. The house comes as well with a mountain of leaflets about local highlights, that's very handy.
The kids were happy with the garden, from which they could see the cows and sheeps from neighboring meadows.
Shayla was always responsive and helpful, even providing toys for the kids, and opportunity to buy organic veggies.
Thank you Julien - I am glad that you enjoyed your stay.
I am sorry that the wifi extender did not work in your bedroom, but hopefully the main one worked alright for the rest of the house. If not, you only had to say, and I would have come and sorted it! Usually it either means that the weather is interfering, or It just needs to be plugged out and in again!
I take your point about the password - I will rectify that.
As I have said before it's never been a problem here with small children until my last two guest groups....I wonder why? I may have to reconsider having very small children here....
Anyway, I am glad that otherwise you had a good holiday and that you liked the views and the veggies!
The view is just amazing at Sunshine House! We stayed for four days and had a great time in Ireland. Shayla's place is located perfectly for traveling around the Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Killarney etc. - she is a very helpful host: although she wasn't there when we stayed at her place, everything was organized and prepared nicely.
We stayed as a group of five and there is enough space for min. eight people, so you can dance in the hallway if you like or cook enormous meals in the big kitchen or sit on another couch every evening. :-)
Great country, great beer, great house!
This home has an amazing view over Kerry with sunsets and is very nicely located only a couple minutes (walking distance) to downtown Killorglin with its nice shops, restaurants, library and playground. The home has plenty of space for a family of 4+ and a wonderful kitchen to cook in. It was the perfect central spot for exploring the Ring of Kerry, Killarney, and even Blarney Castle/Cork.
I am glad that you liked the house and location John. and sorry that my offers to be helpful were seen as intrusive - that is a first for me! I am always there to greet my guests on arrival - usually much appreciated by guests.
You arrived earlier than expected, so the house was not quite ready, hence both myself and the woman who cleans were just finishing up in the house. Also, on the day you arrived, you wanted me to clear away anything you deemed unfit for your children to have around, which took a little while and needed some communication. I have had many small children in the house, and it has never been an issue before. Usually parents take care of the property in relation to their children.
And you did have the whole house to yourselves.
I was staying in the studio next door, which I sometimes do while guests are here, though not always. Apart from the first day, I didn't call again to the door, except when you wanted me to take away rubbish and to give you a clothes drying rack, which was wanted by you.
I very much respect my guests privacy and never intrude, unless invited in to help with something.
We had a great experience both with the sunshine house and with Shayla. She's was extremely helpful and quick to respond our whole stay. We ventured around the Ring of Kerry and Dingle. She gave us some great spots to see. If we come back to Ireland, we would love to stay here again.
We had such a wonderful time at the Ring of Kerry Sunshine House! The house was so comfortable and welcoming, especially after a long day of tour beautiful Kerry. We had a fairly large group (6 people, including 2 children) and we all had plenty of space.
Shayla is such a wonderful host! She gave us so much advice on where to go, including wonderful tips that certainly weren't in the tour books! I would recommend the house for anyone that wants to enjoy Kerry but also wants a quiet place to come home to. One of my favourite things about the house was waking up early, watching the sun rise and the clouds move around the mountains.
Thank you Shayla, for everything you did for us and for sharing your beautiful home!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Sunshine House on the Ring of Kerry.
The house is huge and spacious. We very comfortably had three women stay here. We cooked a few meals in the large kitchen with gourmet appliances. It is in Killorglin which is about 30 minutes from the busier Killarney. If you want something quieter and off the beaten path Killorglin is a wonderful place. If you want to be closer to some of the most famous sites like Ross Castle and Muckross you probably want to be closer to Killarney, but it is very busy even in winter and much more crowded.
Shayla was very welcoming and showed us some great off the beaten path places to go, and made us a toasty fire every night. She recommended a fort on the ring and we found sheep inside! So fun. I highly recommend Ireland in the off season. The Ring of Kerry was quiet and we whizzed through the whole thing in a day with no traffic, and we had the Dingle Peninsula practically to ourselves.

About the Host, Shayla
A Killarney native, I have lived in Killorglin for just over one year. I have built this house and a Therapy Centre here - finished August 2013 - so that I can have a beautiful space to to live in, to share with friends and guests and to practice my therapeutic work. I lived in London for many years and then in Cork for many more, before moving back to my native Kerry. I choose this location for it's panoramic views of the mountains all around, which change hour by hour, and for it's large private garden space, which I am slowly developping. I love my work, walking in nature, reading, travel and meeting people from different cultures to share experiences. I love nature's beauties and telling people about the loveliness of Kerry. I enjoy delicious healthy food, lots of walking - especially by the sea - and a glass of good wine. I love to sing and I sing in a local choir. When I travel, I like independent travelling, self catering, the choice to relate or not, as the mood takes me, so I offer that to my guests too - freedom of making your own food, non-intrusive care and comfort. Do your own thing - & I'm available if you need any information, to help in any way I can to make your visit more enjoyable. While I am definitely not fluent, I can get by in French, Spanish and Italian - enough to help with everyday things, but not philosophical discussion!
My life motto -" Life is a mystery to be lived, not a problem to be solved!"
