About This Listing
Our warm and cosy, two bedroom stone cottage, with wood burning stove and rustic finish, is a true country retreat! Sitting among trees at the foot of a mountain, the cottage is the perfect base for exploring the wonderful South Kerry.
The cottage, which was renovated from a stone ruin over 10 years ago, has all the charm of an old farm cottage with the conveniences of a modern home. The main room consists of a large open space with a low ceiling over one half, which forms the dining area. The other half is a double height space consisting of a sitting area in front of the fireplace with wood burning stove. The bedroom is accessed by a door next to the sitting area. This double height room with a king sized bed is the master bedroom. The stairs from the main room takes you to an open half-loft/mezzanine on which there are two more beds; 1 single and 1 double.
At the opposite end of the main room from the fireplace is an arch which leads to the kitchen and shower-room.
The cottage is self-contained on its own plot of land at the end of a private country lane and will be totally yours for the duration of your stay.
Interaction with Guests
We will meet you on arrival and again when you are leaving. Other than that we are nearby for chats or anything else you may need.
Your surroundings will be beautiful South Kerry countryside and you will have sheep, pheasants and hares for neighbours. The cottage is set among trees and is very secluded.
We are 3.5 miles from the nearest town, Cahersiveen, where you will find supermarkets and a variety of quirky, lively and traditional pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants.
You will need transport, be it cycle or drive.
Other Things to Note
This is the perfect location from which to explore the stunning Ring of Kerry driving route. Fishing, hiking, cycling, golf, and horse riding can all be easily organised. The nearest beach is only 4 miles away and there are many others within easy reach.
We expect that you will respect our home and leave it as you found it.
Great experience at the Cottage. Great location and lovely Irish folks. Thank you very much - highly recommended.
Ritchie's parents live right by and are very welcoming to new guests if Richie is away and unable to greet you. The O'Connell's are a very nice family that will help you with any concerns or needs during your stay. The house is quaint, as pictured. Because I was a long term renter of four weeks, I had to pay for the hot water, electricity and heat (if used too much) at the end of my stay. Thankfully, I was okay on the oil. This is my first Airbnb rental that had the utilities cost separate from the overall price of the rental. I would much rather pay a set price, even if that price is higher. Overall, it was a nice little house. Cahersiveen is a nice little town that is close by, as well as Waterville. Kells Garden is a must with beautiful views and waterfalls. There is a lake up the way I seen people fishing in and many trails nearby. Charlie Chaplain statue in Waterville, and Portmagee is beautiful. Many things to do and see from here!
Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location, Ritchie and his Father are both lovely people who will make sure you have a great stay.
The cottage is spacious with a well equipped kitchen, Dining area and living room. All bedrooms are tidy and well stocked with linen and towels etc..
Location is perfect to drive the ring of Kerry with easy access to the main road, Town is close by for supplies.
Great cottage for a holiday, highly recommend it!
Perfection! Mary and Tom (parents) where absolutely wonderful. This Cottage is in a perfect location next to a river and countryside. The views from the master bedroom and Kitchen are fabulous. The lanai in front is wonderful as well for reading, yoga, and outside dining! Cahersiveen is a dream! The cottage is only minutes away from Beaches, Castles, Ring forts, Cahersiveen a beautiful and friendly town, the Skelligs and much more. We stayed in this Cottage for 1 month and thoroughly enjoyed Ireland from this point. Killarney is only 45 min. away for some fun nightlife and "City" adventures. All in all an absolutely perfect experience and truly beautiful family with warm, welcoming hearts. We will definitely be back again. Thank you
We had a very enjoyable stay at Ritchie's cottage, We were met by his Mum and Dad who were very welcoming and extremely helpful. The cottage was well appointed with every thing we could need.
It was certainly a lovely location with great views in a quite and secluded area.
We would be happy to stay there again.
About the Host, Ritchie
Hi I'm Ritchie
As a host I look after the renting of the cottage for my parents Mary & Tom , who live nearby and look after the cottage day to day. We love the opportunity hosting gives to meet new people and at the same time let our guest experience the unique place that is South Kerry.
I split my time between Cahersiveen (Home) and Cork city where I work Monday to Friday.
