Very clean and unbelievable accommodating. Stayed here for the Super Bowl and it was perfect for what we were looking for. Only down side was the area it is located was a little on the sketchy side. But you cannot beat the price and the ease of renting from Sylwia.
We stayed in Sylvia's apartment for the thanksgiving weekend.
Neat and tidy house
Close access to liberty park and Ellis island
The Statue of Liberty ferry is about 5 mins from the place
Couple of good quick eat places close by
Location is kinda shady but there always was a cop car outside the house and that was comforting
PATH station is about 10 bucks in cab
All in all we had a very good stay and would definitely stay here again given a chance
Had a great time at Sylwia's room, great host, easy to talk to and very informative.. I recommend her to people looking for a nice quite place to stay when visiting New York..
I really like.this house with all the rooms in it, its extemely quiet, very nicely decorated with a luxury and personal touch and very independent. I dont see any danger in the neighbourhood at all, its quiet and residentia with a couple of delis for coffee and snacks, and I like the fact that it is not in the middle of the city. The transport is very well connected and reliable and the place is so close to liberty park for a run too. Perfect communication with the host Sylwia, very straight forward and independent, also very convenient key exchange better than a hotel. I do recommend it to people who want to sleep nicely after the city chaos and peronally would book it again.
I stayed @ 202 Van Horne St in the large room upstairs. I had to share the bathroom with the women across the hall. That was sometimes inconvenient. She had a 9 mo. old baby, so she needed the B.R. for more than herself. Good for me she was a really nice person. The place was clean, but I got one towel for my entire 5 day stay. The neighborhood was borderline bad. On weekend, the street was filled with older kids screaming at each other. Someone called the cops and they dispersed. I took a cab home that night, and the these people wouldn't let him through. To get the PATH train to Manhatten, you have to catch a local bus to
get to the train itself. If you have bus schedule, you could get to the PATH in 30 min , get on the PATH to get to World Trade Center. All in all, it takes 45 min. - 1 hr. to get there, depending how lucky you are with timing. So if you need to get there in "10" minutes, take a cab. The reason I chose this particular place is because it was what I could afford.
Sylwia's house is extremely clean and well maintained. However, I am so surprised that not many reviews mention about the shady neighbourhood the house is located in.
Moreover, the access is not that easy. We had to take taxis everyday to and fro the Newport path station (costing approx 12 dollars).
The area was really run down and seemed unsafe, so taking the light rail from the path was out of question as we didn't want to walk around the neighbourhood.
If you can up your budget and get something closer to the path station I would definitely recommend doing that. We shortened our stay here and moved to a hotel in NYC.
If you do stay here please don't forget to carry your toiletries.
Otherwise contacting Sylwia was easy and she had ensured the keys were available even though we reached at night.
Slywia's spot is very clean and in close proximity to New York city.
If you are coming from very far out of town, you may have to take into account that Sylwia does not live in the house and there may be things that you need to bring with you for your trip (toothpaste, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc..) to obtain maximum comfort.
Arrange specifics for the key pickup prior to arrival, as well as the information to log on the internet and you will be fine!
Sylwia is very nice and helpful, everything was very clean, the neighbourhood is good, the room and the kitchen are ok, transport to NYC is not very difficult, the house is quite clairaudient, but thats not a big problem.
Nice place but the roomate was very creepy. When i left for an appointment My friend who is a girl was using the bathroom and the roomate kept wanting to get inside. I had to rush back only to discover that he was wearing just his underwear and stalked on my friend. It was scary.
The room was excellent but dont live there if you are a girl and alone.
