Private bungalow 1 in Jurassic Park

Bed & Breakfast - Entire home/apt · Jurassic Park, Las Terrenas, Samaná, Dominican Republic

The Space

A clean private bungalow, to rent, set amongst the abundance of natural beauty of Jurassic Park.

The bungalow come with a fully equipped kitchen, a double bed (if required, another bed can be arranged), a bathroom with shower, and a terrace with views of the beautiful green tropical valley and the ocean.

Jurassic Park is a magical place situated on a small hill, in a tranquil valley, 3-5 mins outside of the main town Las Terrenas.

A short stroll behind us there are two waterfalls with pools - which are extremely inviting, especially when its hot, great for cooling off and helping to make you feel at peace with the world.

We have semi controlled jungle areas which we continue to improve and make part of the attraction of being here.

There is very little light pollution (no upward facing lights) so you can view the night sky, from our open pool terrace, which are mostly spectacular all year round.

If you are a star gazer, a writer or a poet you would feel very much at home here.

We are moving towards self sufficiency and Eco tourism. We already have pure spring water and we have solar panels and soar water heaters.

We will in the future add a variety of electric vehicles for guests.

If you have children then this is a natural wonderland providing constant amazement. Indeed, visits from the local children, who are a breath of fresh air, will aid your children in understanding this environment.

To top it off we have a trampoline which is very popular with children and uncontrollably happy adults alike.

We also grow many fruits and vegetables and indeed as I write this the wife has popped out to our herb garden for some coriander.

We hope to have created a much more personal and friendly feeling.

We have a great track record of content, repeat visitors. It seems that a return visit is a must, once you have been bitten by the magic and unadulterated beauty of our little oasis.

Also for a small additional fee we now offer breakfast (typically eggs, toast, seasonal fruits, juices, vegetable and cheese empanadas and coffee in our jungle communal area. Its a great chance to discuss your days activities and learn the best places to go. Just let us know before hand.

See you soon

  • You'll be left speechless and in awe at this place. The rooms were perfect little studios, well equipped with everything you need to relax and sink into the nature that surrounds the entire place. Wonderful wildlife (rhinoceros iguanas, the smallest humming birds, lizards/geckos) all around with fireflies at night to lead you back to your room. The hammocks make a great rest after a long day of exploring with calming winds shaking the tall palms above. The very best part of this entire place is Dominic, Helena and the happy and polite children (plus ol' Grumpy- the watch dog). Their smiles matched their inviting, humble and kind personalities and they very knowledgeable about what to do, when to do it, where to go, how to get there. I highly recommend this place for the self-proclaimed adventurers, backpackers, and for anyone who would like to immerse themselves, even for just one night, in nature and local life... you will learn a lot about the DR here, you will learn a lot about yourself. Thank you Dominic and Helena!

  • We enjoyed the stay very much. Such a quiet and peaceful place to relax far away from everything. That's an important point - be aware you are outside and to get to the awesome beaches like playa Bonita or the cosy city center of las Terrenas you need to get a ride which costs around 100 pesos each one way.
I liked the open concept of the bungalow (there are no doors at all) and small details just like candles to enjoy a romantic dinner on the private terrace. The kitchen is well equipped and we also had a nice BBQ at the pool area as well. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxed vacation this is your place! For more action stay at the center where you have restaurants, bars, the club "la bodega" and beach in walking distance. You can hear the waves at night from your room but also a lot of noise from the street in the morning.

  • This was a really interesting stay for my boyfriend and I. Dominic and Helena were really kind in allowing us to stay for one night, when they typically require two nights. While Jurassic Park wasn't what we were expecting, in retrospect, it really added to the adventure of our trip in the DR. We would have loved to meet Helena and Dominic, but unfortunately we only saw Dominic for a few seconds on our way in. To other people wondering whether they should stay here, I would say that if you're interested in the experience of staying at Jurassic Park, and want to explore this area and the less traveled part of Las Terrenas, go for it. If you're just in town for a little while and want to experience the city, look somewhere else, as this isn't close to the action of Las Terrenas. You'll have to take a taxi or a motoconcho, which can be fun, but a little inconvenient. It's not an easily accessible area by foot or taxi, especially at night. All in all, it was a good experience for us, and we loved the grounds and swimming in the pool under the stars, but if we wanted to stay in Las Terrenas again, we'd probably stay closer to the city.

  • As every other reviewer has said, Dominic and Helena are the best hosts. They helped us so much before, during, and after our stay with them. They are the epitome of excellent customer service. They know the area very well and can give you excellent directions for anything you need or want to do. Helena even came out to the discoteca with us after we had checked out of Jurassic Park and into another hotel (preplanned move because we wanted a couple days on directly on the beach).

The property is gorgeous and the rooms are very clean. They provide you with a large jug of drinking water so you don't have to worry about always having a bottle. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and some simple spices and coffee.

One of the best things about staying there were all the possible activities. They had a staff member walked us to a local restaurant for dinner and took guests on hikes through the property to get to the waterfalls. Make sure to pack good walking shoes so you can do these hikes. Helena also set up a excursion for us and other guests to go on to the El Limon waterfalls, which was amazing.

The breakfast is delicious. It may seem a little pricey but is worth it because it's homemade, large, and there are empanadas.

For internet, we weren't able to connect with our phones but we have crappy phones so that is probably why. They do have a hardwire and we happened to have a computer so it was no big deal.

For doing stuff off property, you can easily use the motos. They will seem scary to ride at first but it's completely safe. The moto ride down to the town/beach area is only about 100 pesos a moto and is a very quick ride.

At the end of the day we came to Las Terranas because of this property and it was the best decision we could have made about our vacation. The town is amazing and safe and the beaches are unbelievably beautiful (even the "not nice" ones). Do be careful not to venture out on your own anywhere other than the main LT town because the areas outside of town aren't as safe but you will be fine if you stay in the touristy areas.

  • It was truly a magical experience, to stay at Jurassic Park, nestled into the mountains and jungles of Samana Peninsula, hosted by a little family that was as special as the place they live in! An evening can be spent, enchanted by a spectacular display of fire flies as you sit across from the no - chemical, natural spring fed pool, atop sweet little bungalows - one which you call your own. Each has a hammock and a table and chairs, on the porch - which is where we spent peaceful hours reading from the great library of books left for guests. Dominic, Helena, Fire and Pure, (I need to find out how you write their names in Spanish!) and their dog Grumpy (who visited us every day and was the sweetest of dogs) made sure we had the best time and were very giving and caring. Dominic and Helena were so helpful and eager to pass on excellent advice and ideas for our trip. Because of them, we had an excursion (had to go by motorcycle to get there - the main mode of transportation here - what great fun) to a quiet, incredibly beautiful beach that is one of the top beaches in the world and sported surfers at high tide while you sat back and sipped on a cold one! We trekked into the little town of Las Terrenas by the ocean - to be loved by any romantic out there! As well, one of the most special memories ever - was Dominic's spontaneous journey(which was made more exciting because he included the kids, who just made everything special) into the back of his property where you walk along a river ravine and come to the waterfalls where the brave family took a dip while Mike and I watched. It felt like being in an Indiana John movie!
It was wonderful to be able to talk to our hosts in English (although they all speak both languages fluently) as we have found that The Dominican is mostly Spanish speaking - but it also made us want to learn the language now.
The air is so pure there and the jungle and mountainous countryside left us with a special, thrilling feeling! There is no doubt in my mind - we will be back - again and again and again! We intend to watch those kids grow up and Jurassic Park too - and all their dreams of solar power spreading and all their great ideas come to fruition!!
Speaking of fruit, I ate breakfast there every day and had the most wonderful selection of the most delicious fruit ever! And their coffee and breakfast was excellent - always a plus for me!

  • Dominic and Helena are very nice and helped us with good advices. The Jurassic Park is a magical place. We felt so happy and connected to the nature. Sure that I would love to return there very soon. Hopefully this wish will come true.
Thank you, Helena and Dominic for the very nice stay!

  • I was really disappointed in the place. It is not at all what they advertise. The hosts are SUPER nice, but they are not honest in what they advertise.

First of all, it is not in Las Tarrranas. When they say "3-5 minutes" they mean a 10 minute taxi ride (if you take a motorcycle taxi) from the town. It is two suburbs out. The "short stroll" to the waterfalls shown on the page involved a drive before the short stroll. You can't really get anywhere on foot.

The photos are VERY old. The lovely thatched roofs have been replaced by corrugated aluminum, or not replaced at all. The trampoline has a hole big enough for me to fit through. The pool is green, with tadpoles growing in it and a half-finished concrete building behind it, with rusting rebar coming out the top. The "bar" is a little hut, with a roof you can stargaze through.

You have to wade through a small stream to get to the property, and when it rained, it went very high on my thighs. I'm only 5'4" so I turned back and my 6 foot tall friend felt comfortable going to town for groceries. Also, if it rains your water will run pure mud, like something out of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I only had hot water once in the 6 days I was there.

They are not bungalows. Each room is connected to another on at least 1 side, which means if your neighbors watch movies all day, you'll be listening to the movies. Also, you'll be hearing music from neighboring houses a great deal (all day on the weekend days I was there).

I think if they accurately advertised their place, or if I had a car, and they charged commensurate with what they are offering, it could be lovely for people with a car, who don't mind a funky place. BUT DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CAR AND WANT TO GO TO THE BEACH!!

My friend minded some things that didn't bother me: there is no front door--just a metal grate (email hidden)ere's no shower curtain. There are quite a few bugs. The kids are sweet, but the boy running around naked and peeing on the lawn bothered my friend.

The family is super-nice, which makes the whole thing super-awkward. They're mis-representing their place. I tried to make the most of it, but I really disliked the misrepresentations.

  • We spent the first three nights of our 2 week vacation at Jurassic Park. It was a great chance for us to unwind, relax, and ease ourselves into the treasures that the DR has in store for all who visit. Dominic and Helena were helpful, friendly and welcoming.
Jurassic Park is located south of the town of Las Terrenas but you can walk to a couple small "restaurants" (basically extensions of people's houses where you can find comida dominicana) and some shops that will sell the basics: eggs, milk, coffee, bread and Presidente. Motoconchos are EVERYWHERE and you need only walk to the main road (about 5 minutes) and someone will ask if you want a ride into town (about 50-100 pesos). We wanted to walk into town and since the main road doesn't have sidewalks the whole way, Helena showed us a back route. It took us over an hour of walking on a dirt road. The walk was GORGEOUS but maybe not for everyone and I wouldn't want to do that after a night of drinking/dancing in the town or lugging a bunch of groceries home. But again, motos are everywhere and they all know where Jurassic Park is so transportation really shouldn't be an issue.
We had planned to stay in Las Terrenas for a few nights following our stay at JP so we chose to stick around the property most of the time. We swam in the pool and hiked along the river with their family dog showing us the way. Ramon, their grounds keeper, gave us a sample of the pulp from a cacao pod and we even discovered him digging up some yams one day. Just a tiny glimpse into the natural bounty that exists in this country. All in all, we had a great stay here and it was the ideal start to what turned out to be the best vacation we've ever had.
If you can handle a few bugs (not even really an issue), don't mind seeing lizards on your doorstep, enjoy the sounds of nature and have an open mind, this place will surely delight you.

  • Dominic was a great host. He was very attentive to our needs and had great suggestions to enhance our vacation to the DR. His rooms were clean and well furnished. If you are looking for an off the beaten path experience this might be the place for you.

  • There are no words to describe the paradise that is jurassic park. Surrounded by the jungle, waterfall on the property, a pool fed from the local stream, 100% self sustainable.
I saw the most amazing firefly displays ever . Right in the jungle with Ramon the grounds keeper ready to show you the secrets and plants and take you deep inside. About 10 minutes away you'll encounter a tree thats a million years old. Not far from Las Terrenas, with everything you need to get there (scooters) available on the property. Dominic and Helena are amazing, wonderful warm people. They were kind enough to show us around, take us out with them and divulge some of the areas secrets. This is my new favorite place. I'll definitely be back -soon!
