We really enjoyed this spacious attic apartment. It was decorate well and included everything we needed for our long weekend, such as the kitchenette. It was very close to the historic downtown; we were able to walk to everything we wanted to see or do. We didn't have much interaction with the hosts, but they were nice and made check in and check out very easy. We would definitely stay here again.
We had a great weekend in Staunton at Ellen & Lou's charming attic suite. The space was gorgeous - tastefully decorated and brilliantly laid out. They had thought of everything you might need to be comfortable, from bath robes and an electric blanket to keep you toasty warm to coffee and english muffins in the morning as well as bottle of wine to enjoy in the evening. The location is also ideal. We were able to walk to great restaurants, antique shops and the Blackfriars theater :) A perfect getaway for city dwellers! We will definitely be back.
Place was exactly as pictured and advertised. Very close to many of Staunton's one of a kind shops and restaurants. Ellen and Lou were great hosts and left a nice gift of wine and snacks. We will stay here again in the future.
This was our first time using airbnb and we couldn't have had a better experience. Ellen & Lou, were just wonderful! They were more than accommodating and we arrived to a bottle of wine and breakfast goodies the left for us. Their home is spectacular and our suite was very clean, cozy, and charming. When you see all of the details in the decor and restoration you can really see just how much pride Ellen & Lou take in their home and in their guests. The location was perfect, it was nice not to really have to drive much at all, the only time we got in our car was to go horse back riding at Star B Stables and to see the Frontier Culture Museum (highly recommend them both) and even so it was no more than a 10 minute drive to each. We walked to everything in beautiful historic downtown Staunton, stopping at all of the shops, taking in all of the art and culture that this vibrant town has to offer. Ellen also owns an antique shop on Beverley St... it's definitely worth stopping in to see all of the old treasures for sale. My husband and I had a few must-dos on our itinerary, such as glass blowing at Sunspots Studios, having a beer or two at RedBeard Brewing Co, eating at Shenandoah Pizza, visiting the Frontier Culture Museum, and a trail ride at Star B Stables. There were so many things to stumble upon as well, such as the Farmers' Market. We bought some delicious food from some very hospitable vendors. We came to Staunton to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary, and it was the most perfect place to spend such a special occasion. Even though we managed to see and do so much in just two days, there is still so much we want to see and do in Staunton... I guess we will just have to plan another trip down to this beautiful town and of course stay at Ellen & Lou's fabulous home again. Thanks Ellen & Lou! You were wonderful hosts, we couldn't be happier with our experience.
Located just 2 blocks away from Staunton's happening main street, Ellen and Lou's home is a great jumping off point for exploring the town and the larger Shenandoah Valley. Ellen and Lou have clearly taken a great effort to restore and maintain their beautiful home. The attic apartment is very spacious and clean and exactly as pictured. The hosts even left a few goodies in the fridge for our stay. Their welcoming and the apartment's charm are reason enough I make a visit. I would definitely stay here again if I make another trip to the area.
If you are visiting Staunton, this is the place to stay! My husband and I had to pinch ourselves that this incredible 1844 mansion—in the heart of downtown Staunton—was "home" for a few days. We couldn't believe its condition or size. With the attic apartment's 12' high ceilings and 1200 square feet layout, trust me, you don't feel like you are in an attic.
The private roof top terrace is unbeatable. Overlooking the city, sipping wine, and nibbling cheese was the perfect way to kick-off our anniversary weekend. The comfy living room area was wonderful for planning our itinerary and relaxing between outings.
Ellen is so helpful, accessible, responsive, and accommodating. Take all of her suggestions . . . we sure did! Like the farmer's market and free 2-hour walking tour on Saturday mornings (Apr-Oct I believe). We had such a great time at Blackfriars Theatre and ate like royalty at the local gem, Zynadoa. The Coffee Corner has super fresh, yummy bagels and coffee, and Cranberry's is great for grabbing lunch to go. We even had time to enjoy the Apple Butter Festival at Wade's Mill, followed by a visit to Rockbridge Winery (awards cover their walls, and it came as no surprise after sampling their wines).
Staunton is the perfect weekend getaway . . . layers of history, tons of character, and no shortage of local shops and offerings. You will love it!
The experience in Ellen and Lou's attic was one that felt like the comfort of home but with a twist of romance. We especially enjoyed the freshly ground coffee with real cream on the rooftop terrace in the morning as the chimney swallows were dancing among the rooftops and at night when the lights of downtown Staunton were coming on with a glass of complimentary wine. Great food is to be had at Mill Street Grill within walking distance as is shopping and sightseeing. Thanks for making our honeymoon memorable. We hope to return.
Spacious, clean attic penthouse, exactly as pictured. Rooftop deck was a spectacular spot to watch the sun set with a bottle of complementary wine. Just around the corner is Blackfrairs Playhouse and the Woodrow Wilson Museum. For dinner try the Depot Grille or the trendy Zynodoa. Need a late night coffee? At the bottom of the hill is Coffee on the Corner, treat yourself to a delicious cappuccino or a German beer. Staunton is small town living with big city amenities!
One word: Wow.
OK a few more words: This place is amazing! The location in Staunton's downtown is ideal for walking through town. Ellen steered us in the perfect direction for a great day in charming Staunton. As for the accommodations, the 3rd floor apartment was even better than advertised. We loved the private patio overlooking the surrounding town and hills. We will definitely be returning!
Anyone who has done AirBnB multiple times knows that the service can either "get the job done" or be an amazingly unique perspective to a town/location and a new adventure in some other style of living than your everyday life. This place was definitely a quality spot that offers a getaway in all ways. THe location is amazing for exploring downtown Staunton. The owners, although we did not get to meet, are very good communicators. They make sure everything you need is available for a comfortable time. The space feels like a luxury much more than it feels like you are staying amongst someone else's stuff (like other experiences I have had). THere is a complimentary bottle of wine and a tremendous deck/view to enjoy it from. If you are in central Virginia, do yourself a solid and STAY HERE!!
