Walking distance to town centre, cafes, beaches and the Koala Hospital. You can safely leave your car here and explore Port Macquarie by foot. The library and the public olympic size pool are only a few minutes away. We're located in a quiet neighborhood, the only sounds you might here at night are the ocean, birds and cicadas in summer.
We are happy to help with any tips or anything you need. We travelled around the world before we came to live here, we enjoy meeting other travellers and also respect if all you need is a quiet place to stay :) Our dog, a labrador, Alaska, loves people and is very friendly. You can be sure to see a very happy dog when you come in.
We do kindly ask you to read all the house rules as well as the amenities before booking with us. We want to make sure you know what to expect and what we expect :) Thank you!
You will have your own bathroom with shower. You can access our garden and the pool. You are also welcome to use our bbq.
Interaction with Guests
We are usually home when we have guests staying here. We love meeting new people and giving ideas of what to do, where to go as well as learning more about our guests. We are here to help. Happy to chat but also happy to let you have your own space and relax from the busy life!
Our neighbourhood is quiet and very central. Only a few minutes away from the library. We know all of our neighbours and you'll find that we often have a chat with them throughout the week. We also share produce from our garden with our next door neighbours.
The bus station is close by. The street has plenty of parking space but guests are welcome to park in our front yard too.
Other Things to Note
Please note we do not have a kitchen in the room. You will have access to a small fridge and some kitchen utensils but if you plan on cooking you can either come and talk to us to use our kitchen or choose a room which has kitchen facilities.
No Smoking (this is not negotiable)! We are relaxed and easy going. We enjoy guests with the same attitude. Alaska will welcome pets with enthusiasm :)
Although we didn't spend much time with Sybil or Jason, they were friendly and helpful with lots of local recommendations. Their place is in a great location to explore the local area and Alaska the dog is super friendly.
We booked this room based upon previous positive reviews. Unfortunately we did not feel it was good value for money based on our other AirBnB experiences and came away feeling disappointed. The level of cleanliness did not meet expectations for the price we paid. It looked like the towels had been washed but they had dog hairs on them. The room was a bit grubby and the pillows smelt like they hadn't been washed in a while. The pool had lots of debris in it during our stay and so did not look very inviting (previous reviews suggest it's not always like that). We wouldn't personally describe this as a 'bungalow', rather a unit contained within the garage. It would be helpful for potential guests to know that the bathroom is not directly attached to the bedroom and you must go through garage to get to it.
It was helpful to have some crockery and cutlery but tricky to wash these given we did not have access to the kitchen.
With a few improvements I'm sure this room could be a lovely place to stay.
Hi Jo, we're sorry you felt disappointed with our guestroom. We do appreciate when guests come and talk to us if there's something wrong so we can fix it straight away.
Unfortunately Alaska's hair does get everywhere, that's the challenges of having a dog in the house :) I aim to keep it the cleanest that I can and always shake the towels like crazy after a wash and might miss a flying hair here and there. Port Macquarie is an extremely humid place (specially close to the beach) and I'm not surprised if there was a bit of a humidity happening in the room, that's why we have lots of those dehumidifiers around. And well, yes, the pool, it's a beautiful place to hang around but quite annoying when it gets a leak...it's actually green at the moment. We work hard on keeping it clean because we obviously love spending time in it too...every strong wind does send leaves and palm tree fronds into it though.
Our description of the room does say that we don't offer a kitchen and if needed guests have always asked to use our kitchen and that's fine with us. We recently added the little fridge and some kitchen utensils so guests can have snacks if they choose to do so.
Thanks for your feedback Jo and we will work on making improvements. Enjoy your travels.
Jason was hugely accommodating at every point of contact.
The bungalow is a very clean, stylish yet well utilised floor plan.
Plenty of cupboard space and kitchen equipment.
Jason very friendly (Sybil was away)
Their dog was wonderful company.
All cleaning products etc provided are organic and or enviro friendly.
The fan is a cool welcome in summer and no TV makes for a great relax.
Thank you so much for everything and can highly recommend.
Jason was home and welcomed us at the appointed time. The private bungalow is very small with a nice back deck. Lighting is dim in this room so reading at night was difficult. Jason loves his city and we agree with him. A place we could live. He was very helpful sharing places to see and things to do in the area and beyond.
We had a really good stay at their place! Sybil and Jason made us feel very welcome. Also we just loved their dog Alasca, which is probably the most friendly dog we have ever seen. Their house and garden are just amazing and give you a feeling of vacation right away. So overall, we can only recommend the place!
I really enjoyed my stay at Sybil, Jason and ofcoarse Alaska! I had my own private place with a confortable bed and a nice bathroom.
Sybil agreed to pick me up from the bus stop and the next morning she drove me to the lighthouse from where I could start the beautiful Coastal Walk leading into the towncenter. Along the way I took a surfing class on Flynns beach, one of the multiple nice beaches in port Macquarie. (on recommendation of Sybil)
Completely exhausted I came back at my little bungalow took a dip in the pool and lay down in the Hammock. (with a cold drink from the the small fridge)
On my last morning in PM I visited the koala hospital and after that Jason an Sybil drove me to the Wauchope train station as they were going in that direction.
Thanks Jason and Sybil, for being so friendly and helpful!
I would definitely come again and recommend this place to other AirBnB users!
Thumbs up for this one!
Thanks for the wonderful time at your place. I really enjoyed it and I loved to take care of your lovely dog Alaska. He's such a friendly dog and well-trained. As I worked at the Koala Hospital it was great to have all the important places in walk distance.
About the Host, Sybil And Jason
Port Macquarie is our little paradise!Living here was a great lifestyle change from our live in the Middle East. Sybil is Brazilian/Swiss/Polish and Jason is Australian. We've travelled the world together and speak quite a few languages too. On the weekends we're relaxing with friends, family or we're out in the garden taking care of the plants...at the beach or at the pool. During the week we're busy with sports and work.
Alaska, our dog, is a really friendly lab. He LOVES having guests over but he also respects guests who do not want to play with him.
We love meeting people from around the world (it keeps our travel bug alive) and we really enjoy having good organic food too.
A short walk from home and great for a quick snack, newspaper, banana bread or a cold drink! They also sell 1kg of honey for $5.99 from the region :)Hill Street Port Macquarie NSW 2444
Free WiFi (At home we have it as well) but good as well to read magazines and find some interesting books on a rainy day. Theres a Buzz Cafe accross the road.Port Macquarie NSW 2444
