Location: San Marco 2439 (Calle de le Ostreghe)
Waterboat stop: line 1, Santa Maria del Giglio (without bridges)
Important: From August 24, 2011 is obligatory the Tourist Tax of 3 euro per person per night to be paid cash locally.
The area is very beautiful and characteristic, between Campo S. Maria del Giglio and Calle XXII Marzo, where reside the most famous hotels in Venice and the exclusive shops of the city. A few steps to S. Mark Square, Rialto bridge and the Fenice Theatre and the most important churches and museums.
Nearby restaurants, pizzerias, bars or typical "wine bars" as well as craft shops and souvenir shops.
But if you leave the main street and turn into any “calletta” you will be in a succession of streets, bridges, squares and immerse you in a typical Venetian quiet with breathtaking views in an atmosphere where time seems to has stopped.
To go around to Venice or to go to the islands of Murano, Burano or Torcello, there are motorboats, ferries and waterbus which stops a few steps from our b & b. Also useful to reach Lido during the Venice Film Festival, rather than the Biennale at the Arsenale area, the exclusive Lido beaches or for who prefer the Alberoni beach free.
A waterbus stop is just a few steps from our residence (Gilgio stop line 1), and in the canal in front of us taxis and gondolas.

The Junior Suite was exactly as pictured. Very comfortable room, beds, and the best towels we had on our entire trip. Lots of nice extras like American coffee pot, French press, juice, milk, yogurt, etc. The breakfast far exceeded my expectations. And the view of the canal from the room was lovely for morning breakfast. (Being on the canal can be a little noisy in the morning as boats collect trash, deliver goods, etc.) The directions provided were wonderful, and Gio was extremely patient with us when we took the wrong water bus - despite the great directions. Would absolutely recommend staying there.
We had a great time in Venice and Gio & Gio was everything we had hoped it would be.
Gianni met us within minutes of us arriving at Gigilo and took us to the house and our room, explaining everything that we needed to know, and suggested places to visit and eat - wihhout paying the the tourist rates :-)
He then left us to enjoy our stay, but was available on the phone if we needed anything.
The house and room very lovely and the perfect location. The perfect place to stay when visiting a Venice.
While Monica was out of town, Mr. Gianni received us from Piazza San Giglio, and gave us a good round up of the vicinity and the things to do in the city. The accommodation is an apartment with three bedrooms (the other two had other occupants) and a Hall & Kitchen which are shared. Our room was not the lucky one with a view of the canal & the Gondolas - you should try & get if you stay here. The room was really clean, neat & tidy, and we were allowed to checked-in as soon as we reached around 12noon, although the official stated time was 2pm. The breakfast was a cold breakfast with no options for hot food, which would have made the stay even better. Overall, if you're staying for long, take the room with the view; the smaller rooms are okay for a night or two.
