My wife Cynthia practices acupuncture and Chinese medicine in NYC during the weekend, but is often around the house during the week at home. If you want to practice speaking Cantonese, she's happy to help.

We have two very nice boys, ages 6 and 9. They speak English, Lego, and a little bit of platypus. Other than that, we are pet-free (some allergies).

We are located between Glen Cove and Oyster Bay, NY. Our house is 0.8 miles to Long Island RR - Locust Valley Station (15min walk), 0.4 miles to Stop N Shop, King Kullen, and 0.6 miles to health food grocery store. Starbucks 0.9 miles in nearby Glen Cove.

Long Island RR service to Manhattan takes 60 minutes from the Locust Valley (or Glen Cove) train stations, which brings you to NY Penn Station, 34th St / 7th Avenue. Search NYC LIRR and MTA (airBnB hides links (website hidden) ) for schedules and fares. Very frequent LIRR train service from at Hicksville and Manhasset LIRR stations, about 10 miles away.

Bus service from nearby Glen Cove: runs to Mineola, Hicksville, Flushing, Roslyn. Express Bus rush hour service to downtown, midtown, and Upper East Side.

  • My stay at GoldCoast exceeded my expectations! The bedroom was very clean, quiet, and desk was great for studying. Wi-fi was blazing fast enough for me to catch up on my shows. The friendly family made for a wonderful stay. Facilities of refrigerator and laundry machines were just as accomodating! I love this place and not only would I recommend it - I would come back the next time I end up rotating in the Long Island area :-)

  • Loved my stay in Locust Valley. It was away from the city but still close enough to drive in. My hosts were very accomodating and the room was cozy, thank you!

  • I needed a place to stay on Long Island near Glen Cove on short notice. I found Steve's room on Air BnB and the process was smooth as silk. I hooked up with Steve and we were in pretty constant contact as to my arrival time, as he had some family to visit and was going to be in and out the Saturday I arrived. It all worked out great, and as the kids were off at Grandpa's, the house was quiet that nite after I came back from dinner with friends. Sunday afternoon the kids came home, and Monday morning before I had to leave was the chaos that one would expect getting two young children ready for their day. No problem at all, I've been there and remember it fondly.
The house was easy to find, and it is almost exactly between central Glen Cove and Locust Valley, so access to any provisions or shopping is easy. There are some seedy looking stores within walking distance, but I wasn't that adventurous. The house itself is quite comfortable, and the room set aside for me was spacious and clean. The bathroom was clean and the shower was great (a big plus for me!). The only downsides I saw was that there was no broadcast (satellite or cable) TV (not a huge deal for me, but something to note) and the password to the wireless internet was apparently a secret. This was overcome by plugging the wire from the kid's computer (which is in the guest room and used for homework, I'm told) and plugging in my laptop. The router is in that room too, and if I had brought a cable it would have been easier to hook in than using the kid's. The walls are thinner than I'm used to, but then again I live alone so I'm not used to other people in the house at all.
All in all, I found it an excellent experience and will stay with Steve and his family the next time I'm in town. If, of course, they'll have me!

  • Steve & Cynthia were wonderful hosts. They made my stay extremely comfortable and were always offering assistance if needed. The home is a great place to stay and it is exactly that a home. Welcoming and friendly.

  • Steve and Cynthia are wonderful hosts. Their children are amazingly fun and respectful and have made my stay a complete pleasure

  • It was the right room at the right price at the right time. I came to Long Island as an insurance adjuster for the storm Sandy. When I arrived on the island, you would of thought you were in Bethlehem during the birth of Christ...No rooms left until I found Steve's. Thanks to Airbnb and Steve, I was able to perform my job and survive.

Steve and Cynthia have managed to create a nice mix of work and family time. Steve works in NYC in the insurance industry. Cynthia is a practicioner of Chinese Medicine, including acupuncture and herbs. She treats patients and teaches in NYC on Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays. During the week, Cynthia enjoys time with Ryan and Dylan, making sure they get on and off the school bus and properly finish their homework. When not working, we try to stay healthy with Tai Chi, kung fu, biking, running and swimming. The house is not a very noisy one. Some times you'll hear the sounds of Lego's, Star Wars Battlefront video games. Occasionally you'll hear Ryan plucking the bass or Dylan practicing piano. Cynthia also speaks Cantonese fluently, and Dylan and Ryan can teach you a few words as well.
