Just repainted and refreshed, and now with an even better equipped kitchen in response to guests' suggestions: 2+ bedroom duplex comfortable for 6 people, located on the edge of the famous Saturday Little Italy Mercato farmers' market, and a block and a half from the iconic Little Italy sign.
One queen bed, 2 twins, plus 2 surprisingly comfortable futons (one in the living room and one in the bonus room), in 2 bedrooms plus small bonus room with fold-down futon. (The third bedroom isn't fancy, but provides another quiet, private sleeping space for a larger group.) Fully equipped kitchen, wireless internet and Cable TV. Quiet corner in the best neighborhood in downtown San Diego, vibrant but with a real sense of community.
Parking space for one car (rare in downtown), except on Saturdays between 6 am and 3 pm, when San Diego's largest farmers' market takes place right outside your door, offering farm fresh fruits and vegetables; hot paninis, crepes, fresh uni and oysters on the half shell; artisan bread, coffee, jam, chocolate and more!
One short block to Little Italy's restaurant row and shops. Take the trolley to the Gaslamp or Old Town, walk to the harbor, take the ferry to Coronado or the bus to beaches or the Zoo. Quick drive to SeaWorld or La Jolla. Enjoy an espresso on India Street with a view of the San Diego Bay and listen to the the neighborhood's founders and European visitors speaking Italian on the street corners.

We enjoyed staying in this high value/price ratio apartment in the heart of Little Italy. Catt is a great host being available and responsive.
We got into San Diego pretty late in the evening and Catt was nice enough to wait for us. She gave us a quick tour and even pulled out a pack and play for my 8 month old baby (which we REALLY appreciated so much). Catt's very responsive and accessible via mobile. Checking in and out was a breeze. Catt has an impressive manual in the apartment which really came in handy.
Catt's place was wonderful. It is an old basement apartment which is very strategically located in Little Italy. We loved the fact that we could just walk out and grab a bite or sorts. Our biggest thrill was when we woke up Saturday morning and walked out straight into a delightful farmers' market. Parking was also easy as we had rented a car from LAX.
Catt is a fantastic host. She made sure we were well informed of all the amenities and eateries around us and even left a bottle of wine and cookies for us. The place was roomy and comfortable and the neighborhood was darling! We will rent from her again
There were four of us sharing this apartment. We were all a little shocked to find out that it was in a gloomy basement, because the pictures indicate plenty of natural light. We overcame this negative aspect when we realized that it was in a great location, and did have some positive features: The main bedroom has attached reading lights over the bed, which was great, but there was an absence of lamps in the rest of the apartment, meaning overhead lighting was only choice. Also, the television was quite ancient by today's standards. The kitchen was well-stocked, and appliances clean and up-to-date. Shower had plenty of hot water, but if you prefer a tub (which I do) there was no drain plug. There were plenty of extra blankets.
I'm so sorry you found it gloomy, Jacqueline. It is the lower level of a split level and there are lots of windows at ground level for natural light, as shown in the photos. And thanks for the input about lamps (we'll add some more) and the TV (it's older, but the problem you had with the picture was a cable connection problem easily fixed once we knew about it - wish you'd let us know while you were here). Glad you enjoyed your stay overall.
This accommodation suited my family well. It's in a great location for exploring the city. The farmer's market outside on Saturday is wonderful for picking up supplies. Great restaurants within a few blocks. A couple of convenience stores are close.
If you like transportation then it's a gold mine. You can see planes from the stairs outside, the street car and Amtrak stations are a couple of easy blocks away and the harbour with the Maritime Museum and the USS Midway an easy walk.
The water pressure was incredible (although we couldn't find a plug for the bath), the heating worked very well.
Now for some things worth mentioning, but that would not stop us booking again. The church across the road starts ringing its bell at 7am. If you're a light sleeper, it will wake you. The blinds in the bedrooms are feeble and you may need to rig something if you prefer to sleep in darkness. If you are self catering and need a specific tool, it would be worth bringing it with you (we couldn't locate a grater or peeler).
All in all, it was a great stay. The place is very child friendly with no "bric-a-brac" that the kids could mess with and break. We will definitely book again when we go back to San Diego.
Thanks for staying with us, Shona! Yes, people either find those bells romantic or they most definitely do not. Thanks for the input: we'll look at the blinds. The nutrients are in the peels! (says the farmers' market manager) but we'll add some more cooking tools. We'd be happy to have you back.
This was a great apartment in a great location! Catt was very easy to get in touch with and answered all my questions right away. I stayed for a week and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay - we rented a car but didn't end up using it that much because the apartment is walking distance to so many things - the waterfront, Gaslamp district, lots of great restaurants within 2 blocks, Seaport Village! The only downside is that whoever lives upstairs is VERY loud from around 6am on and prevented us from sleeping much later than that, which was frustrating. With that said, I would absolutely rent from Catt again and definitely stay here again!
Loved having you here, Laura! Sorry about the noise from upstairs - it's an Airbnb unit like the downstairs and once in a while we get a noisy guest. We're always happy to remind them they have downstairs neighbors if you let us know you're hearing them. We'd be delighted to have you stay here again!
Place is in a terrific location with the market and places to eat right at your door step.
Be aware staying in the bottom unit can be very loud if there are guests staying upstairs.
Parking facility was a huge bonus.
Some friends and I stayed here over the weekend and had a great time. The apartment is clean and comfortable. The location is amazing there is great food, easy walk to Gaslamp and not far from the airport. Catt is great and very helpful. There is parking and is close to the SD trolley.
This place is in the heart of Little Italy, with plenty of room for the four of us. We enjoyed the location, and the setup had everything we needed. Catt met us when we arrived for highlights about the apartment, and was responsive to our questions. Thanks for everything!
