Welcome to the Southside Slopes and Mt. Oliver Boro. This is a quiet residential area of mostly working families, some with kids, some retirees and not an area where students live. It is a safe area with its own Police force that patrols regularly. Carson street on the Southside is a 10 minute car or bus ride away and provides dozens of different restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, banking, groceries, and shopping in the Southside Works area.
If you drive there is off street parking in the driveway right next to the front door of the house. The neighbourhood is walkable but on a hill so the walk is not flat but up and down some hills.
•10 mins to highways 376 and 279 which will take you anywhere throughout the city
•5-10 mins to Southside and Carson Street
•10-15 to Downtown
• 15-20 mins to Oakland, Shadyside and Squirrel hill
• 45 mins from the airport
• 51 bus goes to the Southside/Carson street and Downtown
• 54C/D buses go to Southside/Carson street, Oakland, Shadyside, Friendship, Bloomfield, Polish Hill, Lawrenceville, Strip District and Northside
• 44 bus also goes Downtown

Other Things to Note
Please note that I rent two bedrooms in my home and that common areas (kitchen, living room, bathroom) would be shared with other guests if both rooms have guests staying. I always keep guests informed of who else is staying in the house. I expect all my guests to treat my home as your own, be tidy and be respectful towards other guests staying in my home as I expect of them to act towards you :)
•Mutual respect required to share common space with other guests.
•Smoke free home. Would strongly prefer non-smoking guests. Smoking is allowed, however, strictly outside. Absolutely no smoking in the house.
•No one other than the paying guest(s) are allowed in the house.
•Please clean up after yourself in the common areas of the house and keep them in the condition that they were when you arrived, particularly the kitchen if you use it for cooking. Other guests may be arriving and should be afforded the same clean house as you had when you arrived.
•Please remove the sheets from the bed and leave them with your towels when checking out.
Above all, enjoy Pittsburgh and have a comfortable stay!
I had some business to attend to in the South Side and this room at Maggie's house was the perfect "home base" for me. It had everything I needed, was conveniently located, and was very comfortable. Thanks Maggie!
Maggie was very easy to get in touch with, and she tried her utmost to make us feel comfortable in her home. I really liked staying here. Thank you.
So was attending the IESNA Annual Conference which happened to be in Pittsburgh this year and was very happy with my choice to stay here. Although Maggie was not there, I was communicating with her via Text and Email and she helped me when I forgot the front door passcode and I felt like she was available any time I needed her. I very much enjoyed meeting the other guests, Tina and Yo from Taiwan, and we spent a little time working on English together. The neighborhood was very quiet, and the house was very neat and tidy. I even found a ironing board and iron in the hall closet so I could press my shirt before the meetings. THANKS AGAIN!
Maggie's house i just incredible. Although she isn't home much, her place is cozy, comfortable and clean. Maggie provides everything you could ever ask for. I stayed at her place for more than two months and the house became like a real home to me. Also, prior to my arrival Maggie provided me with plenty of information about the house and the neighborhood which was great.
In terms of location, the University of Pittsburgh, the CMU, the lively Southside and Downtown can be reached via direct bus lines within 10 to 20 minutes. Although accessibility of all those places is very easy and convenient, the neighborhood itself might be problematic to some people who are not used to staying in 'sketchy' areas. The house itself is in a very quiet street but there are some places a few blocks away which should be avoided (especially at night). I never had any problems at all but would recommend taking this point into consideration - especially if you are travelling to the US for the first time.
In all, I had a great time and would definitely stay at Maggie's place again.
Absolutely wonderful and cozy place to stay. Maggie was absolutely helpful in all means during my visit and kept openly communicated to ensure everything was a-okay. If you're visiting Pittsburgh or just want to check this place out, I would highly recommend it.
Maggie's home experience is excellent, with everything you need clearly set up to help you find it. It's an oasis of calm in your Pittsburgh experience. She's thoughtful up front and responsive in the moment, and there are lots of little touches to ensure your stay is good. I stayed in the smaller room, which was small, clean and comfortable. The larger room looks gigantic, with closets and drawers and a nice desk.
The neighborhood is friendly and working class. There can be a random element - walking around alone at night feels a little sketchy if you're a woman, like many places. Best to drive or take a cab if you'll be out late.

Hello! I'm a young professional in the city of Pittsburgh. I love to travel and just got back not long ago from a summer trip to Vancouver, Seattle and Portland. I also spent a month in Europe (Berlin, Poland (southwesten parts), Prague, Milan and Venice) in October 2011. I've found that staying in hostels instead of hotels and meeting fellow travelers is what really makes the experience when I've been abroad so I'm excited that a site like this exists and have really enjoyed opening my home to travelers as well as staying with a couple airbnbers when I've traveled. I speak Polish fluently as well as the standard English of course. I'm originally from Poland and moved to the US when I was young, but still have family there.
I came to Pittsburgh to go to college at Pitt and have lived here ever since, about 12 years now so I know the city pretty well. I bought this house in the summer of 2008. I fell in love with salsa dancing about 7 years ago so if there's anything you want to know about the Pittsburgh Latin scene, I can probably tell you! I have worked in Oakland at the University and downtown so I know the bus system quite well also. I commuted by bus to both Oakland and Downtown from my home.
Hosting: I host because I truly enjoy meeting people and having travelers in my home. My place is always clean, not annaly spotless, but clean. I own a vacuum cleaner and a toilet brush and know how to use them :) I'm willing to be as helpful as you need or to stay out of your way if that's what you prefer. I am traveling more for work and personal reasons these days so chances are we will not meet in person but I will have everything ready for you and I am always reachable by phone, text or email. I assume you will treat my home as if it were your own, clean up after yourself and leave your room as you found it when you check out. I'm more interested in helping interesting and trustworthy travelers than I am in just making a quick buck. Please ask me any questions and if you are unsure if something is available or ok with me, let's just talk it out! I also sometimes have out of town friends and/or other guests staying in my home so you would be sharing the common areas in the house with other friendly folks and expected to be tiddy and respectful towards them as well as I expect of them to act towards you :)
