About this listing
Discover the Costa Rican countryside in Piedades Sur. Nestled in this community of Arabica, shade grown coffee planters is our two acre farm with two horses. Coffee from this area is sourced for Nespresso and was visited by George Clooney in 2013!
This is a two acre property with a forested coffee farm. Our house is the only house on the property and is surrounded by wildlife. There are hundreds of different fruit producing trees such as plantains, bananas, guayabas, and of course coffee. The house is two stories.
The first floor has one bedroom with a full bed, one full bath, a kitchen, a small kitchen table with four chairs, and three sofas in the living room. The kitchen has silverware for 8, mugs, dishes, pots, pans, coffee maker, and a fridge.
The second story is completely open except the full bathroom that has a hot water heater. In the open space are two full beds and one twin bed. There is also ample space for air matresses and sleeping bags.
The patio and surrounding areas has a wood burning stove, two hammocks, two rocking chairs, and a picnic table.
The property has great views of the central valley and amazing sunrises.
You are free to explore the property, feed & pet the horses, and pick & eat any fruit that's ripe. There are tons of birds that call the property home as well as a two toed sloth that likes to hang out in the big tree on the patio, so we ask that you respect the wildlife.
Interaction with Guests
My aunt and uncle live about a kilometer away and manage the property as well as any horseback riding tours. Also, the neighbors are very friendly.
There is a pulperia (a small convenience store) about 500 meters away where you can buy your basic goods, and a woman about 700 meters away who sells fresh milk, homemade cheese, and sour cream. There is a Catholic church about 400 meters away if you're interested in attending mass with the local farmers.
La Guaria is town 15 minutes away be horse, and it has a small bar, restaurant, & other amenities. There is a nice tilapia farm nearby where you can catch tilapia, and they prepare your tilapia for you in the restaurant.
A 20 minute walk away will bring you to the highest point of the mountain range where you can see the coast. If you are interested, my uncle can take you on a 30 minute horse ride to a beautiful waterfall that is a local watering hole for monkeys and birds.
If you want to truly indulge in nature and escape from civilization, this is the place for you. We are on one of the tallest mountains in Costa Rica in a friendly neighborhood of coffee farmers. I cherish my time there to reconnect with nature.
I have uploaded the exact GPS coordinates from Maps, so you should be able to drive there. The last few kilometers can be difficult as it is a dirt road with steep rises.
It is very easy to get there by public transportation even though Piedades Sur is high in the mountains surrounded by nature.
Take the bus from San Ramon to Piedades Sur. Once you arrive at Piedades Sur, ask if that bus is continuing to La Guaria. If it is going to La Guaria, ask to be let off near the entrance to the road to the homes of Wilbert Fernandez Gonzalez, Majella, Don Adan, and the church. The bus driver will understand these directions and know where these people live. Follow that dirt road on foot for one kilometer until you reach the property.
Other Things to Note
You will need to bring shampoo, soap, toilet paper, garbage bags, food, etc. This can all be bought at the convenience store about 500 meters away.
We expect you to leave the property as you found it and respect the horses & wild animals you may encounter.
