Immaculate craftsman-style Cottage on the Kerns-Chase property. The Kerns-Chase House, listed on the historic register, is one of the original turn of the century homes on College Hill. In place of the former dilapidated carriage house, now stands an adorable cottage designed and built by the owners under an historic alteration permit. Newly constructed in period detail, the 430 square foot cottage is beautifully decorated, with 9 ft ceilings, picture rail and maple hard-wood floors. The gorgeous interior was hand-crafted by Greg in clear fir trim and built-in cabinetry, with incorporated full length mirror. The clear fir was sourced from recycled Pacific Northwest high school bleacher seats! Don't worry, we removed the gum from the bottom before milling it. Luxurious queen-size bed on solid hand-made maple platform frame. An additional, comfortable full sized futon couch/bed for one more adult or two children. Soft, comfortable, quality cotton sheets and bedding. Fully equipped kitchen with granite counters, dishwasher, microwave and gas range. Cozy gas fireplace. Tiled glass shower. Tankless water heater for unlimited hot showers. Washer/dryer. This studio was designed, created and outfitted with guest visitors in mind. If you are looking for something special, this is it!
The cottage has wifi for your use. 39" HD TV with Comcast cable channels. Sony Blu-ray/DVD player for watching DVD's and accessing your Netflix/Hulu/Youtube, etc. Bring your username and passwords to access these features. The Cottage has it's own washer/dryer. A private patio with outdoor seating overlooking the garden. Adjacent off-street parking for our guests.

Relax and enjoy yourself, that's rule #1. NO pets please, inside or out. Absolutely NO SMOKING inside the Cottage or outside on the property. It's OK to have a guest or two over for a visit, but the space is not suited to more than that, thanks. Maintain quiet between 10:00 pm and 8:00 am. Kerns-Chase Cottage is truly a delightful treasure. Located in a peaceful neighborhood, the cottage is immaculate, well appointed, and cozy. I was not able to meet Jane in person due to my schedule, but she was prompt to respond to me and made herself available should a need arise. I will definitely return!
This cottage is perfect in every way. Well-appointed, clean, comfortable, very attractive inside and out, and comfortable. It had such interesting features that we took notes to apply the ideas to a future home! Jane was very quick to respond with any questions. There is a helpful book of instructions and local info in the cottage, something that would be a good idea for all hosts. This will be our go to spot when we visit Eugene.
Jane welcomed us to her cottage in a friendly manner. The cottage was beautiful and well-crafted. We were very comfortable staying in the cottage and the neighborhood was quiet and convenient for us. I will definitely stay her again.
Jane and Greg were so friendly and welcoming in our e-mail communications and all during my stay at their cottage. It was the perfect place for me to staying during a workshop I participated in for 5 days in Eugene. The place is very peaceful and clean, with a great sense of privacy. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely. I feel grateful to have been able to stay in their tranquil cottage.
Upon arriving we were instantly "wowed". Everything was immaculate, and Jane and Greg have gone out of their way to think of and provide EVERY POSSIBLE THING we could have imagined needing during our stay to feel comfortable. The place is just like the pictures and even better in person. There is even a cute little fireplace to make it feel more homey. During our stay I needed some butter to make a dish but forgot it at the store. I texted Jane and she hand delivered butter about 4 minutes later with a smile, I mean... CAN'T GET MUCH MORE WELCOMING than that! This will be our go to home away from home for future stays in Eugene. Can't beat it for the price. Also Safeway and Downtown are so close!
Jane and Greg were great hosts and always responded to our emails and questions quickly. The Cottage was fantastic! Cozy and perfect for two (and in our case three). We loved the neighbourhood and especially enjoyed our walks to downtown Eugene (about 20-30 minutes away). We hope to return both to Eugene and to this cute Cottage.
While we did not have the pleasure of meeting Jan & Greg because they were out of town, we feel like they spoke to us via what they have accomplished in the Cottage. It literally has everything one needs. Clear instructions, TONS of electrical outlets, a full Kitchen, perfect lighting throughout, toiletries and lots of amenities.
In short; great job Jan & Greg. Outstanding!
Jane is from England, and in her youth chose a trip to America over a used, red Triumph Spitfire. Greg grew up in Texas, but he was emancipated and departed to seek his fortune at the earliest legal opportunity. We met on a windsurfing trip in Baja, Mexico in 1990. We later flew to Baja in Greg's Cessna to get married there, bound for better or worse by Mexican civil law. We removed the back seats of the aircraft, and stashed mountain bikes and camping gear in their place. We still go back every winter to kite-board at our casita in La Ventana. We have two adopted daughters from China, five years apart...an international family!
