About this listing
Within close walking distance to the subway, restaurants, gourmet coffee shop, Jamaica Pond this location can't be beat in one of Boston's greatest neighborhoods!
Built in 1910, my building served as housing for the workers who ran the former sixteen breweries that once lived in this area. The apartment is close to fun restaurants, boutiques, parks, pond and public transportation! Jamaica Plain is a funky, fun and diverse place with easy access to downtown.
My apartment is clean, comfortable and uncluttered. The room can accommodate up to two people in a single queen size bed. The bathroom is shared, but I am flexible for when I shower. The bathroom features and old claw foot tub with a shower. I do not have any grab bars available for the tub just for your information. Water pressure is excellent! I am on the first floor so the apartment is very accessible.
One thing I like to mention to guests is that I live in an urban environment. My apartment is on the first floor of a three story building off a busy city street. I have neighbors above me on the second floor. You can hear the occasional fire engine or trash truck driving along the main street. The building's furnace is below the bedroom and sometimes kicks on during the evening to heat the hot water. None of my guests have ever complained about any of these urban sounds in there reviews, but I wanted to let you know. Despite the old creaky wood floors, the apartment itself and I are very quiet and respectful of my guests!
The rugs in the photographs were on loan to me for several years but have unfortunately been returned to their rightful owner. I am working on obtaining replacements to recreate the decor shown on the site.
If there is anything I can do to make your stay more comfortable within my means just let me know!
Guests can use the whole apartment including kitchen, bathroom, living room with high definition cable television, wireless internet, coin operated washer and dryer! I don't keep much food in the fridge so there is plenty of room if you want to pick up milk, fruit, eggs, etc. I do offer complimentary coffee which I will make in the morning if I am there. Guests are free to use the kitchen to cook meals.
Interaction with Guests
I am flexible with guests. If you want to hang out great! If you prefer privacy, I understand and will be very respectful.
If there are any issues with your stay, please let me know and I will do the best to resolve them!
Jamaica Plain is incredible! We are surrounded by parks, boutiques, restaurants and fun and lively residents! A list of recommended places to visit are located in the room.
The apartment is about 50-60 minutes on public transportation from the airport. I generally prefer taking a cab which is about $45 plus tip. From your terminal, take the free airport shuttle to the Airport subway station. From there take the Blue Line inbound to State Street Station. From here transfer to the Orange Line towards Forest Hills Station. Green Street Station is one station before Forest Hills. Upon exiting the station, walk up Green Street towards the left for four to five minutes, about four blocks. At Centre Street walk to the right. Pond Street is two blocks to the left. If you arrive when I am free, I can pick you up from the T stop.
Unrestricted parking is available throughout the immediate vicinity of the apartment. If you have difficulty finding a space I will assist you. Do not park behind my building. It is private parking and you will get towed.
The bus to downtown is around the corner and the subway is a seven minute walk from the house. Hubway Bike share is also down the street.
Other Things to Note
I typically wake up around 5-7am, but I am very quiet! I typically go to bed around 10 or so.
Just be respectful. Keep noise to a minimum after 9pm. Obviously no smoking!
We had a great time with Ray. His apartment is nice and clean. The vintage lamps and chairs in the living room made us take a lot pictures. Ray is a wonderful host, he cares for his guests in every little way. We would definitely choose him if we visited Boston again. Plus, running beside the Jamaica Pond, which was only three-minutes walk, would be one the best experience for a jogger!
Ray was a lovely host. He greeted us in his apartment in Jamaica Plaid to show us around. The listing includes a private room in his apartment, everything else is shared with the host. We hardly see each other afterwards because of our busy schedule, nonetheless he works nearby is available via phone all the times if necessary.
Jamaica Plaid is a nice neighborhood with lots of restaurants and cafes. It is great for outdoor activities (nearby Jamaica Pond) and not to far from the city center (25-35min using the bus or subway).
Couldn't imaging a better place to stay.
What can we say, stay at Ray's. Seriously, the place, location and host were all perfect for us. We wanted to stay in JP (Jamaica Plain), and Ray's place is in the heart of it (we're looking at you FoMu and City Feed & Supply). We wanted to be near bicycle paths, and Ray's place is close to Hubway bike rentals and both the Jamaica Pond path (go for sunset) and the Southwest Corridor path (picking it (email hidden)ation). We also wanted public transport options, and Ray's place is near both the Orange line (Green St) or the 39 bus (very close). We wanted a comfortable and cozy stay, and we slept really well in the comfortable bed with options of ceiling fan or AC. We wanted an easy going and like-minded host, and Ray not only made it easy for us to be self-sufficient but he also was happy to engage with us on a range of topics from yoga and the barter economy to sugar addiction and bands of all sorts. After such great conversations, we found ourselves playing 6 Degrees of Ray -- we hit 2 degrees. Thanks, Ray!
Ray was an amazing host! I would definitely come back next time I am in Boston.
The place is super clean and he is very discreet.
Thanks for Ray for accepting me as a guest in these few days. I enjoyed staying at his house. Ray is a super good host. He is so nice and considerate. He provides a great extent of freedom to your guest. He also provides a detailed instructions to guest. His house is clean, comfortable and easy to be reached by public transport. Ray also gives me a great review of the restaurants in the neighbourhood. Thanks again for his suggestions to these restaurants. I really enjoyed the food there.

Ray was a perfect host. he was very informative and friendly. The house was clean and the room was large and nice. The location was much more convenient than I had expected. Took about 10 minutes by train from the Bay back station followed by 5-10 minutes walk in a nice neighbourhood. We liked JP. it is a place with real and friendly people. Good experience.
