About this listing
A single room in a beautiful apartment just a few minutes to Midtown Manhattan with a full bed, desk to work at, and access to the entire apartment to cook, do laundry, or lounge. Half a block from the Subway, 2 blocks from East River & Ferry.
Spacious and handsome duplex apartment on one of the nicest streets in the neighborhood – just steps away from the train, the beautiful waterfront parks, a great cafe, the best bagels in the borough, and a critically-renowned gastropub.
You'll have a private room on the top floor with a window, AC, desk, and large closet. A roomy eat-in kitchen is downstairs, and a comfy couch is in the living room. Your bathroom is directly next to the bedroom and is shared with one of the roommates. Luckily he is out of the house for work from 6:30AM - 7:30 PM each day so you will rarely not have access to the bathroom!
Guests will have access to basically everything. Living room is completely free, you can use all of the kitchen, washer/dryer.
There's a backyard, but that's only available when one of the roommates is home.
Interaction with Guests
Two fairly busy professionals live here. We're more than happy to give tips about the city or nearby restaurants but more often than not you probably won't see us unless it's very late at night.
One of the roommates works in the neighborhood at a startup and is locally available if needed.
Long Island City is one of the hottest neighborhoods in NYC, and for good reason. The food here is amazing, and we're just 2 blocks from a beautiful waterfront park.
We are less than a block to the 7 train at Vernon-Jackson! This means we are 5 minutes from Grand Central and 10 minutes from Times Square.
Also nearby: G train at 21st, E/M trains at Court Square, LIRR at Hunters Point, and the East River Ferry. Walking distance over the Pulaski Bridge to Greenpoint and Williamsburg (though that's a bit of a trip).
Street parking in our neighborhood is pretty good too. All street parking is free and there are no restrictions for permits. We have no alternative side parking restrictions, which means a car never has to move and we are 3 blocks from the entrance to the Long Island Expressway. There's usually a lot of free spots but there are plenty of convenient parking garages in the area as well if need be.
We have a guest book and want to hear your stories!
Everything is awesome except the Internet, but overall. I have a wonder time in NY and I hope to come back one day! Thanks Arya
Ben was a fantastic host. He had great recommendations for our stay. The apartment is perfectly situated to be able to explore the entire city. I will definitely stay here again!
Had a lovely visit to one of the best neighborhoods in NYC. Didn't meet Arya but Ben was super nice and the apartment is spotless, comfortable, full of light and art, and has exciting amenities such as LAUNDRY and a fabulous coffeeshop next door. I even had a celebrity sighting: Tim Gunn from Project Runway came into the cafe! hehe. Honestly exactly the experience anyone would want: a perfect balance of privacy and comfort. My room was on the main floor next to the bathroom and they left cute hotel-like touches like a snack basket, a list of important information for travelers, and a guest book. I was able to quickly get in contact with Ben by SMS for any questions and he was very responsive. For those used to private houses or to apartments made of cement a la Asia, etc: be warned that NYC apartments have thinner walls. So you might hear footsteps from upstairs etc. it didn't bother me but perhaps I'm just used to it so if you are very sensitive to noise be aware. I think there is a little kid upstairs. And as mentioned the neighborhood couldn't be better: its literally one subway stop to 42nd street, and the immediate neighborhood is full of coffeeshops and restaurants and close to the waterfront. I love queens in general but I only wish I could afford to live in Long Island City here. Enjoy it for a fraction of the cost of a hotel.
first the quiet neighborhood and near the subway. even the best house, comfortable bed and clean bathroom. All great.
We were visiting our son for a few days. He however does not have the space for us to stay with him. Ben and Arya's place was perfect as it was just a block away from our son. They made us feel most welcome and were very attentive to our needs. They explained where the restaurants and bars were located and helped us locate a 24 hr parking lot just around the corner from them. We had full use of the other living spaces. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We had a pleasant stay at Arya and Ben's place, it's the perfect location for exploring NYC. Long Island City is a quiet place close to the very center of NYC, and has some nice little restaurants itself as well. Arya and his flatmate Ben are friendly and helpful. Small minus points are that the flat can be a bit noisy at times, especially the doors, and because of the room's vicinity to the living room. Also the bed isn't optimal for taller people (I'm 6-4). Other than that we would recommend this place.
Arya is a nice host, he made everything simple and easy. The bedroom is small but the apartment has everything you need- kitchen, laundry, and a nice&helpful roommate! And the location is fantastic! It only takes you 1-2 mins to the closet train station!! There is also a great bakery & cafe next to the apartment. Overall, I love this place!
About the Host, Arya
One is a Baruch graduate from Long Island who helped found a startup, currently based in Long Island City. He builds furniture in his spare time, knows every up and coming restaurant in the area, and is one of the few people who can pull off Red framed glasses. Ben. Roomate #1.
The other is a displaced Montrealais who was attracted to Queens by it's multiculturalism. He sells Minor Metals to Manufacturers by day and pretends to be a chef for his friends by night. He loves jazz music, traveling around the world, and a good burger. Arya. Roomate #2.
