A friend and I stayed at Jardin Glorioso for 3 nights. We met Julie who was very nice and friendly. She told us about the area and showed us her garden and the natural pool. She was there to greet us when we arrived and brought us a large bottled water and even refilled it for us during our stay. The casita was the perfect size for the 2 of us and their garden was beautiful! The casita was clean and Julie even came and cleaned and changed out our towels once during our short trip. The casita had a lot of great amenities - It had a nice little kitchen area, coffee maker, mini fridge, hot showers, ceiling fans, a mosquito net over the bed, clothesline out front, and wifi. The casita is off to the side of the main house in Julie and Ed's locked gated yard. Julie was close by if we ever needed anything or had any questions but always gave us our space and privacy too. The neighborhood was quiet and we felt very safe there. We could hear the waves every night from our casita while we drifted off to sleep and woke to the sounds of birds each morning. Early each morning we enjoyed walking through their garden to take in all the flora and fauna. The garden lead us to their beautiful view of the ocean and coral and we'd relax on the log bench while we enjoyed our breakfast. Truly a magical paradise! Two beaches are very close by - playa grande is a short walk to the right on the beach road and playa Negra is a short walk to the left. Both of those beaches are black sand beaches. There was a yoga studio, market, and the reggae bar about half a mile down beach road and about a mile down beach road was the Cahuita national park entrance, shops, restaurants and the rest of the main town. The national park was so worth going to. We loved that beach (clear water and white sand!) and the entrance is free! We saw all the wildlife there!
Had a great 1-week stay with Ed and Julie. They are fantastic hosts and their property is gorgeous. We were fortunate to be able to swim in the natural coral pool on the property. Rd and Julie were very hospitable and helpful with recommendations and directions (Brigitte's Breakfast, Caribeans cacao farm). They even provided us with umbrellas, since it was quite rainy during our stay. We are very grateful to our hosts for making our stay so carefree and fun.
Would definitely recommend to stay at Ed and Julie's to anyone who is in favour of having a great time. Would definitely come back, when the weather is tamer. :)
From the moment we arrived at El Jardin Glorioso, we felt very welcome indeed. Ed and Julie are terrific hosts who made our stay extra enjoyable. The cabina is on the property of their main house so they are there to help (they have a lot of knowledge about the local area, having been there for many years), there for a friendly chat, but they are also non-intrusive hosts so you feel like you have privacy during your stay, too. The cabina is lovely and comfortable, well-appointed with great dishes and kitchen tools (we cooked a bit each day) and super comfortable couch for chilling out. The outdoor furniture is also comfortable and inviting. The bedroom was comfy, and bath towels were excellent, much better than your usual airbnb by a beach! We got fresh towels during our stay and even had beach towels provided. The casita was also immaculately clean which we appreciated. The garden is truly glorious, and the special natural pool by the sea is incredible. We hung out by the seaside just taking in the views and listening to the waves a lot during the stay. This is a special area in Costa Rica -- absolutely worth visiting, not many know about it, and this beach road on which the casita is great for walking, biking, and exploring. I rented a bike from a place Ed and Julie recommended just down the street one day and it was great for getting around (and super price!). You don't need a car if you rent bikes. That way you can catch the bus in town to "fun ports" south (Puerto Viejo town with its action, beautiful Punta Uva beach, and Manzanillo for Caribbean food and more great beaches). Thank you, Ed and Julie! We loved it.
Thanks Julie and Edward for sharing your little spot of heaven. Just close enough to things and just quiet enough to relax and be at home. The pool was great and so is the coral beach. Costa Rica is amazing, so much to do. A very comfortable and well-appointed cottage with a nice shower and bath. No issue with bugs or sleeping with the ocean lulling us every night. With much appreciation, may our paths cross again.
My wife and I spent three nights at El Jardin Glorioso and would loved to have stayed longer. We found the casita and the gardens conducive to laying back and relaxing. My wife liked to nap in the hammock while I worked on my Costa Rican bird identification, adding birds to my list as they flew around the patio. Cahuita is big enough to have a selection of stores, bars, restaurants etc but small enough that it is easily walked. Speaking of walking, a stroll through the National Park there was one of the highlights of our Costa Rican trip - birds, monkeys and sloths - and incredible beaches! Watch out for the monkeys. They're fast and took a bag of chips from us while we were in the water. Ed gave us advice on where to swim and was always on hand to answer questions. He also pointed out a kinkajou (it's like a cross between a monkey and a cat) that would come through the yard every night around 6:30pm and run down the telephone wires outside the gate . The pool at the bottom of the garden is worth the effort climbing in and out. There's a couple of shelves of books inside the casita including Costa Rica guide books, wildlife ID charts and some novels for those that don't want to lug their own around. There's so much to see and do in El Jardin and around Cahuita that we'd love to visit again.
Glorioso indeed! Ed and Julie's garden is absolutely beautiful. The casita is cosy, clean, and well-appointed. Shower ran hot and all kitchen appliances were dependable. Julie was away during my stay, but it was an absolute delight to be hosted by Ed. He welcomed me with local fruit and a big jug of bottled water (more than enough to accommodate my entire stay). My first night, he took me to a lovely vinyasa flow yoga class that was a perfect end to a long day of travel. All of his recommendations for food and activities in town were great, and we had a blast dancing to the reggae band on Friday night!
Pretty much a modest tropical paradise. Not only was Ed a congenial and well-informed host, the cabana we stayed in was beautiful, super clean, and comfortable. Walk to the Cahuita National Park, or the charming small sanctuay, Tree of Life, if you are an animal lover. Not much to do in the town, but there is a little grocery store and some restaurants also within walking distance. Top ratings to Ed and his place!
About the Host, Edward And Julie
Hello, My name is Edward, my wife Julie and I have been enjoying Cahuita since 2004. We also have a home in Taos, NM., where we live when we are not in Costa Rica. I was a general contractor by trade and Julie is in the health care profession. We bought our Cahuita property in 2004. It had two ramshackel houses on it. We rebuilt one house and tore the other one down and replaced it with what is now the Casita. It has taken several years of two and three month working vacations to create our special place here in Cahuita. It was truly an adventure and we loved every minute of it. Come share what we have created.
