Come visit Cahuita, Costa Rica and stay in our cute and comfortable one bedroom cabina. A kitchen stocked with cooking supplies, plates, bowls, glasses, tea kettle, pots and pans, knives and silverware. Gas stove with oven, and small refrigerator, toaster, blender, coffee pot. Perfect location in the Cahuita area. Very quiet, fully equipped and spotlessly clean casita, just right for a couple. Julie and Ed are the perfect hosts, always available for help or a chat, yet very discreet. Swimming in the natural pool 50 meters from the casita is just fabulous even when the sea is a bit rough. Long walks along playa grande which is a 5 minutes walk from the casita. Best snorkling in Costa Rica in front of the cahuita national park using a boat from cahuita village or from the beach at Manzanillo, 30 km down the road.

Ed and Julie's guesthouse is a peaceful place to experience the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. The guesthouse is surrounded by tropical plants and huge royal palms. We enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the birds and listening to the waves crash on the coral. Swimming (on a sandy beach) was just a five minute walk down the dirt road and Cahuita's restaurants were a short drive (or long walk) away. The house itself had everything we needed. The kitchen was well-equiped and even had a blender. The bathroom had a really large shower with hot water. The kitchen and bedroom both had ceiling fans. Ed & Julie even provided us with beach towels and beach mats. At first we were a little concerned that there were no screens but surprisingly, mosquitos and other bugs really weren't an issue at all. (We still slept with the mosquito netting over the bed though.) Great place to stay with really friendly, helpful hosts!

Wonderful stay and hosts. Great communication and directions leading up to our visit. When we arrived, we all sat overlooking the ocean and had a beer as Ed described the property. The cottage sits next to the main house and has a nice covered porch area. Everything was very clean. The cottage is open air and has a mosquito netting over the bed but we had very few bugs to worry about. The cottage only has hot water on the shower head. There is parking for your car just inside the main gate that Ed keeps locked at all times. There is a large swing overlooking the ocean to enjoy the view. Don't expect to go swimming here, during our entire visit the water was very rough. There are nice primitive beaches a short walk away. The only restaurants nearby are about 1km away or drive 2km into town. The dirt road outside their property has some lights but we brought flashlights. If you're there on Friday night you must go to the Jamaican Bar with live band, all of the expats will be there dancing. Great visit, hope to go back some day!

We went to Cahuita for the end of our eight day trip, and we are so glad we ended here. The town is super casual and relaxing. We had a rental car so did not rent bikes, but if we had arrived by bus this would have been a really easy and convenient option. The Reggae Bar and Chao's are both really close and we ate at Chao's twice (we found the prices and the menu to be more appealing). There are also two small markets very close; one near the bars and one even closer to Ed and Julie's, making it really convenient to stop for the necessities. This was the third Airbnb of our trip and while we loved all the places, we were impressed by how immaculately kept the cabina was. Considering it's open air and you sleep under a mosquito net, there were almost no bugs at all. Ed and Julie left us coffee enough for two of our three mornings, which we brought down to the ocean front area and sipped while watching the sun rise over the coast. My fiance was able to swim in their natural coral pool the first day when the sea was calm; we also saw monkeys from this same spot on our first night! There were numerous other wildlife sightings on the property including agouti, spiders, lizards, and several birds. Also important to note that even though there are bugs and no screens, we didn't find it to be buggy at all (though we were doused in deet). We walked to the national park one of the days, which took 20-30 minutes and was very pleasant, having stopped for breakfast in town. Playa Negra is an even closer walk, maybe 10 minutes. Check in was extremely easy and Ed and Julie were great communicators, extremely kind and laid back, and made us feel really comfortable. If we ever make it to Costa Rica again we will for sure stay at Ed and Julie's!

This place was great. Wish we could have stayed longer. Ed and Julie were great hosts and recommended us to a place to rent a bicycle (which I would highly recommend) as well as the best beaches. We would definitely visit again!

Edward And Julie User ProfileEdward And Julie is a superhost.

Hello, My name is Edward, my wife Julie and I have been enjoying Cahuita since 2004. We also have a home in Taos, NM., where we live when we are not in Costa Rica.
I was a general contractor by trade and Julie is in the hotel hospitality industry. We bought our Cahuita property in 2004. It had two ramshackel houses on it. We rebuilt one house and tore the other one down and replaced it with what is now the Casita. It has taken several years of two and three month working vacations to create our special place here in Cahuita. It was truly an adventure and we loved every minute of it. Come share what we have created.
UPDATE!!!
We have had so much fun hosting our Costa Rica guests, we have decided to open our Taos, New Mexico property to guests also. So come and enjoy the land of Enchantment with us.
