Thanks Julie and Edward for sharing your little spot of heaven. Just close enough to things and just quiet enough to relax and be at home. The pool was great and so is the coral beach. Costa Rica is amazing, so much to do. A very comfortable and well-appointed cottage with a nice shower and bath. No issue with bugs or sleeping with the ocean lulling us every night. With much appreciation, may our paths cross again.
My wife and I spent three nights at El Jardin Glorioso and would loved to have stayed longer. We found the casita and the gardens conducive to laying back and relaxing. My wife liked to nap in the hammock while I worked on my Costa Rican bird identification, adding birds to my list as they flew around the patio. Cahuita is big enough to have a selection of stores, bars, restaurants etc but small enough that it is easily walked. Speaking of walking, a stroll through the National Park there was one of the highlights of our Costa Rican trip - birds, monkeys and sloths - and incredible beaches! Watch out for the monkeys. They're fast and took a bag of chips from us while we were in the water. Ed gave us advice on where to swim and was always on hand to answer questions. He also pointed out a kinkajou (it's like a cross between a monkey and a cat) that would come through the yard every night around 6:30pm and run down the telephone wires outside the gate . The pool at the bottom of the garden is worth the effort climbing in and out. There's a couple of shelves of books inside the casita including Costa Rica guide books, wildlife ID charts and some novels for those that don't want to lug their own around. There's so much to see and do in El Jardin and around Cahuita that we'd love to visit again.
Glorioso indeed! Ed and Julie's garden is absolutely beautiful. The casita is cosy, clean, and well-appointed. Shower ran hot and all kitchen appliances were dependable. Julie was away during my stay, but it was an absolute delight to be hosted by Ed. He welcomed me with local fruit and a big jug of bottled water (more than enough to accommodate my entire stay). My first night, he took me to a lovely vinyasa flow yoga class that was a perfect end to a long day of travel. All of his recommendations for food and activities in town were great, and we had a blast dancing to the reggae band on Friday night!
Pretty much a modest tropical paradise. Not only was Ed a congenial and well-informed host, the cabana we stayed in was beautiful, super clean, and comfortable. Walk to the Cahuita National Park, or the charming small sanctuay, Tree of Life, if you are an animal lover. Not much to do in the town, but there is a little grocery store and some restaurants also within walking distance. Top ratings to Ed and his place!
We took a private shuttle from San Jose to Cahuita (I would highly recommend Costa Rica Shuttle) and our driver called and spoke with Ed who gave him directions on how to get to the house once we arrived in the center of Cahuita which was extremely helpful! We arrived in the evening at Ed and Julie's and Ed was there to let us in, greet our driver and give us a tour of our house. He showed us how everything worked with the shower, trash, etc. Very comfy bed, clean and had everything we needed. After we got settled in, Ed showed us his beautiful home and offered us some glasses of wine and recommended some spots to grab dinner. He had some errands to run so he ended up coming out with us to the reggae bar in town which is only about a 5 min walk. He introduced us to his friends Troy, Georgia and Babu who (email hidden). If you get a chance to meet these guys, you won't be disappointed. They are so friendly and welcoming! We had a great time having dinner (great fish with Caribbean sauce and the piña coladas are awesome!) with them all and grabbing drinks. The following day Ed called up his friend Wayne who rented us bikes for $5 a day, the best deal in town! He is a few doors down so it's easy to rent and return them. Ed also gave us a walking tour of the yard and showed us the beautiful coral pool next to the ocean. Unfortunately it was too rough to swim in while we were there but beautiful to sit on the bench and watch the waves roll in. The garden around the home and on the way down to the water is amazing. So many flowers, birds and lizards it's amazing. Each night you fall asleep to crashing waves and the the sound of the jungle. On either side of the house there are beautiful beaches you can walk or ride a bike to and the national park is about a ten minute bike ride. Totally worth going to and was our favorite beach to explore and body surf at. Very clean and wasn't crowded. We saw sloths and monkeys in the trees on the way in and out and even had monkeys chucking fruit at us one time. Downtown Cahuita had a lot of great restaurants and happy hours going on. We hit Ricky's Bar for dinner and drinks and also a smoothie bar. Cahuita is a relaxed town with super friendly people. Ed was great for recommendations and to tell us about the area. This place is a little slice of paradise and we would highly recommend staying here. Thank you Ed and Julie! Pura vida!
We really enjoyed our stay with Ed who is a fantastic host. He is friendly, inviting and very knowlegable of the local area and a genuine great person! The cottage itself is well equiped with everything you need and is set in a beautiful garden. From the hammock in the garden, I counted 60 species of birds including toucans, lizards, frogs, monkeys, sloths and other jungle creatures. The location in Cahuita is laid back, wild and beautiful. I would recommend Ed's garden cottage without hesitation. Thanks Ed!
Edward made us feel like part of the family right from the start of our visit.El Jardin Glorioso is a beautiful cabin surrounded by all maner of flowers, trees and plants. The Carribean sea is only footsteps from the door. The coral pool is very refreshing on a hot day.Cahuita is a fun town with Jamacian influences and plenty of great places to eat.We enjoyed our visit to the park and sloth sanctuary, but relaxing on the deck was my favorite thing to do,watching the humming birds.Ed was a very gracious host, and we enjoyed chatting with him over coffee or his delicious rum punch.Thank you Ed and Julie,we had a great time.Floyd and Anne Marie.
Hello, My name is Edward, my wife Julie and I have been enjoying Cahuita since 2004. We also have a home in Taos, NM., where we live when we are not in Costa Rica. I was a general contractor by trade and Julie is in the health care profession. We bought our Cahuita property in 2004. It had two ramshackel houses on it. We rebuilt one house and tore the other one down and replaced it with what is now the Casita. It has taken several years of two and three month working vacations to create our special place here in Cahuita. It was truly an adventure and we loved every minute of it. Come share what we have created.
