  • Our stay at Spicy Villas was the highlight of our 3 week trip to Thailand, it was fantastic. Samart, the staff and volunteers all work super hard to create a welcoming and exciting experience. The bungalows are set in a beautiful spot overlooking the surrounding mountains and the whole place has a very rustic charm to it. We loved the sense of community that Samart has created - it was great to start and finish each day learning how to cook thai food (which I should mention was ridiculously tasty) with locally grown/sourced ingredients and mingle with the other guests and staff over meals and a few drinks.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the activities on offer. In particular we really enjoyed the full day hike with our guide Jungle Juice and felt really lucky to have such a knowledgable and friendly guide showing us the local traditions and way of life.

If you are looking for an authentic experience in Thailand, are prepared to 'rough it' a little (even though the beds were super comfortable, we felt totally safe, and it was refreshing having a cold shower each day), this place is definitely for you.

Thank you Samart, we had an amazing time and hope to be back soon. :-)

  • The staff at the eco lodge were so helpful and accommodating. I had a group of 12 and Joe help to arrange the transfers, the activities and food. He had great communication. In two days all meals were prepared for us, we went elephant trekking & bathing, bamboo rafting, hiking and had cooking classes.

The accommodation are modest as its a eco lodge. So if you are looking for 5 star resort experience, this wouldnt be what you are looking for. There is one hot shower and plenty of cold showers, I would suggest to bring your own towel, flashlight, mosquito repellent.

Overall it was a pleasant stay and Joe is super helpful

  • Spicy Villa was with out a doubt the highlight of my 3 week trip to Asia. I'm not an outdoorsy person but the location is so beautiful and the staff is so friendly that you feel right at home. From teaching you how to cook curries to showing you 2000 year old trees in the jungle, the staff is incredibly knowledgable. The community feel was the best part. Samart has done a wonderful job of creating a space to allow travelers to really enjoy Chiang Mai.

  • Samart is amazing, and the place is fantastic. A MUST STAY!!! I am so grateful that we had this unique experience.

  • Spicy Villa Bungalows were a great experience! Very friendly and serviceable staff, along with a beautiful setting of green mountains around. The environment is great, and everyone very friendly.
Regarding activities, we really enjoyed them! especially riding in the back of the elephants! just an incredible experience. Other activities were also gratifying, such as bamboo rafting! It was a good experience overall.
I would say, however, that the cost of booking these activities was surprisingly high. For a place that charges you $40 a night (which seems reasonable), charging you for three or four activities an additional $180-$200 per person seems quite excessive. Granted this includes pickup and drop-off from the airport, it is still a lot of money.

  • Spicy Villa was the highlight of our trip through Thailand!
3,5 weeks, but the 4 days in this wonderful place were unbeatable.
A fantastic, amazing place. Words are not enough.. :-)
The villa was very cozy and i loved the beautiful sunrises we were woken up to every morning.
Excellent food & hospitality! We enjoyed every minute of our stay...
    Looking forward to come back!!!
    Thank you Samart

  • Spicy Eco Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip in terms of feeling a part of a community and experiencing the beautiful Chiang Mai countryside. Samart and his staff and guides were very friendly and helpful, and the food was fantastic - you'll never go hungry! They also helped us to plan some really fun excursions, and we felt like they really took care of us. The lodging is pretty rustic, so best to think of it in terms of one step up from camping. Unfortunately we had a cold snap when we visiting (who would think!), so they gave us lots of blankets to bundle up with at night. Although it is probably unlikely that there are many cold spells, best to check the weather before you go to make sure your are appropriately prepared. Also make sure to bring a flash light and other similar items (again, think camping)

  • Our son he had an excellent stay at the Spicy Villa. He loved the tranquility and beauty of the lodge after the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. He loved the staff, the people he met while staying at the lodge, the food, the excursions, he said it was such a good experience and told me to give it 5 stars. Thank you Samart and your staff for taking good care of him.

  • samart and his entire staff were all amazing and ridiculously helpful and caring! If you want to experience the real Thai culture and not just the touristy side, you NEED to stay at spicy villa. Every meal prepared was amazing (even when we helped cook

About
Grew up in the countryside, lived in Buddhist temple for 8 years as a novice monk then I went to university where I graduated in tourism management in 2002. Along with my eco-lodges, I also operate an Eco-Tourism company, where I organize custom small and private group tours for outdoor activities off the beaten tracks, real village visits, local waterfalsl, bare back elephant riding, cooking by using bamboo in the jungle, healthy cycling and more. Ask for details! I like outdoor activities such as trekking, hiking, cycling and off roading. I am very involved in local community projects and run an English teaching volunteer project as well for ethnic minority school kids.
