The Chestnuts is a traditional guest house with loads of warmth and charm. Offering all the modern comforts but still keeping the character of a Victorian home. It is located in a quiet corner, a short walk from either Windermere or Bowness village.
The Chestnuts has seven very comfortable double bedrooms which all have en suite bathrooms. Two rooms have standard 5ft double beds, four rooms have 5ft four-poster bed and one room has a bed which can either be two single beds or a 6ft bed.
All our rooms are en suite, some with a bath as well as a shower. We provide hairdryers, TV with dvd player and tea/coffee making facilities in all rooms. Our four-poster rooms also have bath robes
We have a charming dining room which also has a small lounge area where guests are served complimentary tea/coffee on arrival.
Our breakfast is tailored to you, whether it be a full English, vegetarian or smoked salmon! Guests are given their own key so that they have access to the guest house and their room at all times.
Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9.15am although earlier breakfasts can be arranged.
Interaction with Guests
We can provide advice on walks and any other activities which may be of interest. We can direct you to the best restaurants and pubs of which there are many to choose from in Windermere, Bowness and the surrounding area
Many of our guests love that we are only a ten minute stroll to either Bowness village, which is by the lake, or Windermere village. Being located in the southern area of the Lake District National park we are only a short drive away from some of the most popular walks and attractions
There is a good public transport system as well as very good guided tour operators.
Windermere railway station is a fifteen minute walk from the guest house.
We have our own, on site, car park

Check out is no later than 10.30am
Inside the guest house is completely non smoking but you are welcome to smoke in the garden.
We are unable to accommodate pets or children under 8 years old.
Heather was a welcoming host and gave us clear information about the local area
An easy walk from the train station. When we arrived the home looked charming. When we walked in, we were greeted by Heather. She was so sweet. She showed us around, gave us a map and suggested places to go. The room was lovely- with tea and biscuits on arrival. There was movies and books to borrow. The breakfast in the morning was incredible- I suggest the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on a toasted bread- however you can't go wrong with the classic english breakfast. A darling place to stay in a beautiful town.
I had a wonderful stay at Heather's Chestnuts B&B. The bedroom was beautiful, clean and nicely decorated. The bed itself was incredibly comfortable (so much so it was hard to leave!) the breakfast was delicious. Heather and Nigel were very welcoming hosts, from the tea and cake on arrival through to the info on picturesque walks through Windermere. I will be back without fail. Couldn't have asked for more :)
Heather was incredibly lovely and made us feel at home. The location is nice and quiet with both Windermere and Bowness town centres only a short walk away. She even arranged for a lovely surprise for my partner's birthday. Thanks Heather!
Most enjoyable, spacious, comfortable, great mattress, most accommodating hosts love to go back

I have lived in Windermere for over twenty years apart from a brief stay in London. Brief because I missed the colour green and clean air! We live in a beautiful part of the world and we try very hard not to take it for granted.
This is my third guest house and I have run The Chestnuts, with my partner Nigel, for over four years and we still enjoy it! The building was built in the late 1800's and we have tried to retain as many traditional features as possible.
I love walking my dogs, swimming and my new hobby - geocaching!
