The Space

This is a single room available in my home. I will be there durning your stay. I'm an Interior deisigner/ Architect with a beautiful 1920's home, located on a hill between the Castro & Haight Ashbury. Beautiful garden and comfortable accomodations. Small friendly cat, Ghia, lives here too. Nice neighbors, and beautiful view neighborhood. Quiet, and close to everything San Francisco has to offer. See the Golden Gate Bridge from the park hill top just steps from front door. Plenty of street parking, and close to public transportation.

Your room, the guest bedroom, has a full size bed with standard provisions like clean towels and linens provided. We have basic essentials such as shampoo/conditioner, bath soap, toothpaste, hair dryer for your use in case you need them.

I have maps of San Francisco, California, and Muni (our public transit system) all for your use. I also have a few travel books. I have lived here for 14 years, and have plenty of recommendations for visiers.

The house has wifi. Coin operated laundry in building.

You won't want to leave!

Guest Access

Full kitchen & laundry access on the premises. Free use of common rooms, including a beautiful sunny living & dining room.

Interaction with Guests

I like to great guests, and am available to give advice on the city, or just get to know each other a bit. I also give plenty of space/ privacy if that is desired.

The Neighborhood

This is a beautiful, sunny, and central neighborhood that also happens to be quiet and very desirable.

Getting around

Public transport is a breeze here. There is also lots of street parking for those with cars.

  • I stayed at Matthew's place for a month, but rarely saw Matthew as our schedules rarely coincided. The apartment was great, the bed was comfortable, but if you are using public transportation like I was, be aware that you have to walk up and down a pretty steep hill from the Castro Street Station. It's a great neighborhood as well. There is a park across the street and just a short walk over to Upper Haight or down to the Castro.

  • My friend and I spent three great days at Matthew's place in San Francisco. His place is great and he was very helpful.

  • Matthew was a fantastic host and the apartment was really nice. He was extremely accommodating and made sure my stay was perfect. It is centrally located (close to the Castro, Dolores Park, the Mission, great bars/restaurants, Buena Vista Park, NoPa), but it still feels like you're in a different part of the city. The views were breathtaking. The apartment itself is very beautifully decorated - you really won't want to leave!

  • Matthew's flat is a nice place to visit San Fransisco, very well located in a very cool place.

  • Matthew is a world class interior designer and his house shows it. I stayed for 6 weeks and deeply enjoyed the experience. A quiet corner in the city.

Matthew's great. The cat is great.

  • Matt was an excellent, trustworthy and hospitable host - very laid back and chilled but willing to help if there is anything you need! The apartment was very comfortable, had an beautiful unique interior, and was always very warm! (Great after busy rainy days!). The Castro MUNI Metro station is approximately a 6 - 8 minute walk from the apartment (via a shortcut by Randall Museum) which can have you downtown in 10 - 15 minutes. Nice location for being close to Haight street, The Castro, and The Mission is not too far away either! (Transfer at Civic Center on BART). I would gladly recommend Matt to colleagues or friends, and would love to stay again in the future.

  • Matthew seems to be a kind person and my stay was quiet and uneventful. The wifi speed was very good. The bathroom facilities are shared and quite small, with no storage for your toiletries.

  • Matthew was a great, trustworthy host for my family acquaintances. He was helpful and understanding.

    August 2012
  • Matthew was an excellent host. The place was perfect for what I needed, his deaf cat is hilarious, and he wasn't overly "hosty" - I hate when people are.

The place was just as advertised, and a great location for something a little different. I wish I'd gotten to hang out in the garden more! It's wonderful.
