About this listing

A chic and comfortable room in a designer's own home. You will love the neighborhood, one of the best in this world class city. Views, garden, kitchen supplied with all cooking essentials, and a laundry on premises. Shared bath. Walk to Parks, Castro and Haight.

The space

This is a single room available in my home. I will be there during your stay. I'm an Interior designer/ Architect with a beautiful 1920's home, located on a hill (some would say mountain!) between the Castro & Haight Ashbury. Beautiful garden and comfortable accommodations. Small friendly cat, Ghia, lives here too. Nice neighbors, and beautiful view neighborhood. Quiet, and close to everything San Francisco has to offer. See the Golden Gate Bridge from the park hill top just steps from front door. Plenty of street parking, and close to public transportation.

Your room, the guest bedroom, has a full size bed with standard provisions like clean towels and linens provided. We have basic essentials such as shampoo/conditioner, bath soap, toothpaste, hair dryer for your use in case you need them.

I have a few travel books for your use. I have lived here for 17 years, and have plenty of recommendations for visitors.

The house has wifi. Coin operated laundry in building.

You won't want to leave!

Guest access

Full kitchen & laundry access on the premises. Shared bath. Free use of common rooms, including a beautiful sunny living & dining room.

Interaction with guests

I like to great guests, and am available to give advice on the city, or just get to know each other a bit. I also give plenty of space/ privacy if that is desired.

Very nice location! Quiet neighborhood with a beautiful view of Twin Peaks. Very walkable to Castro district and public transport. However, you get what you pay for sometimes, and the room is quite small and dark. Floors could be cleaner, litter box is odorous, kitchen could be more functional. Very nice host though and he does make an effort.

Response from Matthew:
Sorry you were dissatisfied with my place regarding the cat. Her box is cleaned daily, but of course you will still get a smell when she uses it. You know you are a vegan, but cats are not. Their food smells like meqt. One comment for you.: If you want to walk around someone's home naked, and take naked selfies to post on Grindr, I'd recommend that you broach that with you host first.

Matthew wins the prize for fast and great communication. I love that. His place was the perfect temperature, comfortable bed, clean, and quiet ! All the things that are important for me. Bonus is if there is a pet as i love animals. Of course i loved his deaf cat! There is a park across the street and the view of the city is spectacular.

The house is well decorated, you are free to use the office and kitchen, which have large windows that look onto a nice view. The room is super comfy and relaxing. When you go out for the day if you take a right out the gate you can follow a short path that will take you down to Castro & 17th. From there it's pretty easy to check out a lot of cool stuff. There are a lot of useful little shops on the Castro (convenience, pharmacy, print shop etc.). My favourite breakfast place was this bagel place that makes really good lox bagels. Some really fun places to go close by are Delores Park and the food and bars on Valencia and Mission street. From there I found myself wandering around the city and checking out all kinds of things. Overall a great place to stay if you want to be able to get out and see the city.

Wonderful place with a beautiful view of the city! Minutes away from the heart of the Castro too. Matt was a wonderful and accommodating host. Super great experience. I highly recommend it to those who have to work in the city or are on vacation.

I enjoyed staying in Matthew's place. He has a small but very unique home. He was very helpful and considerate. The room is a little bit small but the bed really comfortable. The place is up on a hill which gave me a good opportunity to excercise daily. Overall very good impression. Thx

Matthew's place was perfect for me. I came to visit friends and it was in the ideal location with easy walks to where I needed to go. It was great to spend time in his neighborhood to get a feel of what living in San Francisco is really like. His home is comfy and full of interesting objects collected from flea markets which makes it truly unique. Matthew's low-key charm makes you feel immediately welcome. He is happy to converse or give you some space, sensing your mood without needing to ask; a consummate host.
