This new apt in the East Village would be perfect for a single or couple, who want to experience living in a fantastic apartment in NYC while saving a few bucks from pricey NYC hotels that are located in the heart of the tourist frenzy areas in midtown or an overpriced not-so-clean roach motel. It's very clean and has things no hotel can offer. The building also has a 24 hour doorman / security.
This building complex has 125 units, mostly 2 bedrooms, but this is a special 3 BR Duplex with outdoor patios! Overall, this is a young building, with the average age in the entire complex between 27-40. This neighborhood is very lively after the sun goes down. This city never sleeps and you shouldn't be sleeping your vacation away!
This posting is for use of a private bedroom on the main floor of Duplex apartment and shares the apartment just like a bed and breakfast. There are 2 other bedrooms downstairs with another full bathroom and a separate entrance. All the common areas, kitchen, living/dining areas and patios can be used by myself and other traveler/tenant who may be occupying the other bedroom downstairs. I'm the type to vacate the premises when guests are here and usually just go to kitchen to grab something out of fridge or make a cup of coffee in the morning - if I'm around. I work, play and stay on Long Island frequently. The other tenant or traveler can be different for each time.
The patio off the kitchen is just perfect for a cup of coffee in the morning with some sun which faces the beautiful courtyard with little to no street noise. The other garden patio is fully lavished with greenery and a koi pond. If you're the physical type, there is a gym (free) for your use in the basement of the building as well as a laundry room (coin operated), vending machines and ATM as well.
The unit has a fully stocked kitchen: full size fridge/freezer, dishwasher, gas stove/oven, microwave, top of the line stainless cookware, utensils, dishware, glassware and a full bathroom with bathtub.
The Building and Neighborhood: This building complex has 125 units, mostly 2 bedrooms, but this is a special 3 BR Duplex with outdoor patios! Overall, this is a young building: the average age in the entire complex is between 27-35. If you're the type who goes to bed early on the weekends, I'd probably say this wouldn't be your ideal stay. Unless you are not awakened by anything. The building doesn't really emphasize quiet time until 3 am on the weekends and 12 midnight on weekdays. This neighborhood is very lively after the sun goes down. The East Village has been heavily built up over the last 5 years and located in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan. The East Village offers a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and a beautiful park. You can walk to Indian, Russian, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vegetarian and American restaurants within a 5 block radius. If you're too tired and beat up from touring NYC and don't feel like going anywhere, you can simply order in and have anything delivered to the room (usually until 11 pm or midnight). And these little privately owned restaurants are MUCH better than midtown/tourist-trap food chain places. There are at least three 24/hr places to eat within 1 block. This building is one of only a few in the neighborhood that has a doorman and an elevator. About 95% of the buildings in the area are walk-ups. Your "home away from home" will provide the NYC experience not soon forgotten: the spectacular panoramic view of NYC on the roof deck (elevator and outdoor furniture up there), 2 private patios in the unit, a huge courtyard in middle of complex, about 50 restaurant/bars/cafe's within a 3 block radius and probably 500 within a 10 block radius. Enjoy a beautiful park (Tompkins Square) at the end of the block and an East River waterfront park about 4 streets/blocks to the east.
For an additional fee, I can act as chauffeur to pick-up/drop off @ airport, take you to attractions in NYC, on Long Island, Catskills, Hamptons, etc.). I can serve as your cook (breakfast and/or dinners) or be your personal tour guide to all the tourist attractions, as well as to the cool, not-in-the-guide-books places for nightlife or dinner.
Or I can simply be invisible, as I have my own separate entrance. It's your call!

Bruce is a very nice host, he saved me at the last time when my second host cancelled the day before my arrival.
His appartment is very nice, clean, well situated and the view from the roof is amazing!
Thanks again for everyhing Bruce!
This was my first time trying airbnb, and I was spoiled! Bruce was an amazing host with great hospitality. He made us feel right at home. I was skeptical at first having not used airbnb before, but upon reserving the West Inn Bruce sent me a very detailed e-mail on how to get to the apartment by whatever means necessary, and was very responsive. Read his reviews and his discription of the apartments, they are no lie. The East Village is a great neighborhood. The West Inn has become my preferred destination for lodging in NYC.
On arriving at Bruce's apartment we were welcomed with a cold beer and a tour of the place. The rooms were as in the photos and were all clean and tidy. It was particularly hot weather, but fortunately the apartment was fitted with air con which came as a great relief.
The apartment had a lot of outdoor space with a terrace off the kitchen and a beautiful terrace/patio (with Koi pond) shared with the adjoining building.
The East village itself had a nice atmosphere with local folk out walking dogs and people dining alfresco with access into central Manhattan only a short cab ride away.
Unfortunately due to illness we had to cut our holiday short, but Bruce was really understanding when we had to leave. When we return one day to see all the sites we missed out on this occasion, we won't hesitate to stay with him again.
Bruce is Brilliant!!!
His apartment is the perfect place for staying in NYC!!! Great location, super neat and tidy, great rooftop views and so many awesome restaurants and bars super close!
Bruce is really helpful and his knowledge and recommendations really help!! I was lucky enough to stay in 2 of his rooms and both were great. I would definitely stay with Bruce anytime I was in NYC and the only con was not staying longer!!
Thanks a million for everything!!!
Bruce was our first Air BnB host, and he was great! The apartment is in an excellent location, was super clean and bright. Bruce was funny, gracious, and gave us lots of space to be on our own. We highly recommend him.

Update February 2014 - After 3 great years of success renting out rooms in my apartment, I now have another apartment for my painting studio / office to rent when I'm not working on a project, and I also take care of renting out my friend's apartment here in the East Village. Rather than looking through all my listings and confusing yourself, I suggest just shooting me a message and let me know your dates, the make up of your party (singles/couples/kids/grand peeps, sorry no pets) and any special needs you may desire. Take a look at my reviews and well, you'll get the picture!! I'll be delighted to add you to my wonderful guest list now topping 39 different countries!
As you'll see my original profile info below, I'm quite happy to say the last 3 years have been wonderful. I've met so many great people, both here and on my travels. Having me as your host, will certainly make your life easier here in the Big Apple. Pleasure, business or both I'm happy to share my vast NYC knowledge with you.
June 1, 2010: As a long time resident of NY, I've been living in NYC for the past 5 years, but grew up in the suburbs about 30 miles east on Long Island. Currently, I'm working as an Interior designer / General Contractor with an emphasis on performing the finish work myself and crew(s).
After traveling all around the U.S.A. for a Sales job for a few years after graduating college, I've learned a ton about the hospitality business, traveling in general and have how to treat people by doing my very best to surpass expectations. I provide excellent customer service, clean rooms in a great neighborhood, all in a beautiful apartment in the best city in the world, New York City!
