This is the heartbeat of the world famous West Indian Labor Day parade. It's rich with culture. Many languages can be heard on the short walk from the subway stop. There are a host of West Indian bakeries, eateries and markets along Utica Avenue. The neighborhood also includes a large Hasidic Jewish population so it's also sprinkled with delis and shops a few blocks over on Kingston Avenue. A few subway stops or a 20 minute walk and you're at the Brooklyn Museum, in another 7 minutes at the Central Library in Grand Army Plaza which is right across from Prospect Park which houses the bandshell, the farmer's market and a wonderful trail for jogging and cycling. It's great for artists and creatives or those wanting to have an authentic Brooklyn experience.
We are a couple of hard-working, creative professionals, a filmmaker and a writer/performer. I also work professionally as a consultant for organizations and corporations. He, a mature vegan and I, going vegan for the Winter. We meditate daily, practice yoga, and enjoy good music, but respect space and are advocates of good sleep. We are fun, but not party people who watch movies, love quinoa and curry lentil soup. Sometimes really busy with work and not home much, other times hosting brunch and trying new recipes.
Four Blocks for 4 Express & 3 Trains at the UTICA Ave stop on NYC Subway. 30 min to Union Square; 35 min to Grand Central Station or 34th Street Penn Station; Easy to get to Downtown, Harlem or the Bronx; Close to the 46 bus & many other lines, Dollar Vans, Street Parking, Close to Eastern Parkway--Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Library and a quick train ride to Atlantic Avenue and Barclay’s Center. There’s also the Franklin Avenue shuttle which is easily reached via the ¾ Train. That shuttle transfers to the A/C lines which go straight to JFK Airport.
I've been in the city since July of 2000, lived in both Brooklyn and Manhattan so I can help with directions and know of other sources to get directions if I can't.
