The Space

Recently built 1 bedroom apartment "Lou Messugo" sleeps up to 4 people and is attached to, but fully independent of, our beautiful Provencal family home in the stunning French Riviera. Set in a large garden with swimming pool, surrounded by pine trees and private Mediterranean gardens, this tranquil setting is only a few minutes' walk to the local town centre with all amenities.

The apartment has 1 bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a double sofabed, a beautiful modern bathroom with large shower, a kitchenette (with 2 ring hob, microwave, grill, dishwasher & all necessary equipment for cooking your own meals) satellite TV, iPod dock, WIFI (free & unlimited), sunny patio with BBQ and sun loungers. We provide all linen and bath towels. Pool towels are available at an extra cost if required.

On site we have a range of facilities including a large trampoline, pétanque pitch, table tennis, badminton & croquet. We are happy to lend out our bicycles (varying sizes incl baby seat) and of course there is the fabulous pool.

To make life easy we can provide most necessary equipment for travelling with babies/toddlers such as a travel cot, high chair, booster seat, plastic plates/cutlery/cups, changing mat and a good selection of toys/books/DVDs. We know just how much paraphenalia the smallest members of the family come with as we've been there!

The town of Roquefort les Pins has everything you require on a daily basis with 2 delicious bakeries (for those buttery croissants, pain au chocolats and crunchy baguettes), a supermarket, fabulous vegetable shop/deli, newsagents (with foreign papers), banks, cafés, several excellent restaurants (walking distance) and a weekly market. It is on the bus route from Nice to Grasse (passing by Nice airport) which makes it possible to spend time at Lou Messugo using only public transport though to make the most of this stunning and varied area we strongly recommend you have your own car.

We are ideally located between mountains and sea, only 20-30 mins to beautiful beaches and the buzzing towns of Cannes & Nice and less than 1 hour to the nearest ski resort. This area really does offer something for everyone: stunning scenery, adventure sports, beaches, shopping, hiking, mountain biking, golf, fabulous food, gorgeous medieval hill villages, art galleries and much much more.

We live on site and are available to help with language issues (booking restaurants, onward travel, tickets for events/trips etc) and we're always happy to advise on what to do in the area. We've lived here for 6 years and spend as much time as possible exploring all the amazing things on offer, from canyoning, hiking, sailing, skiing, golf through to museums, art galleries, undiscovered country villages via shopping, restaurants and markets Our kids have grown up here so we can suggest things to do with the little ones too. We love helping our guests get the most out of their time in our beautiful part of the world and we love hearing all about your travels too. But we are also sensitive to our guests need for privacy so if you want to be left alone that's absolutely fine too. You're fully independent of us so it's up to you how much contact you want.

In the apartment you'll find plenty of brochures for local attractions, a large-scale map of the area, guide books in French and English and a selection of novels (many of them set in the area) for you to borrow and swap. We can provide hiking maps, picnic sets, parasols for the beach, most things to make your holiday fun, just ask!!

This part of France is gorgeous at any time of year and our proximity to the mountains means Lou Messugo can even be used as a base for days out skiing or show-shoe trekking. Winter is mild and short with plenty of sun and midday temperatures often getting up to 18° in January making it possible to sit out on a sunny restaurant terrace for lunch even in mid-winter! The apartment is fully heated for a cosy stay in the cooler months.

Please take a look at the Guide Book I've prepared to give you an idea of some of the great things you can do in the area. It's far from exhaustive as there's just so much more on offer particularly in the catagory of restaurants. It would be impossible to list all the fabulous places to eat from cosy local cafés to gourmet bistros and gastronomic palaces! Many of my favourite places don't show up on the map search for this guide book but I'd be delighted to tell you about them. Please feel free to ask me for tips and local knowledge.

  • It was a very enjoyable stay, unfortunately much too short. The apartment is nicely decorated and you feel at home right from the start. Nice and quiet area, but not too far from Nice. A car is highly reccomended
We'd love to return upon our next visit.

  • This a light, airy apartment with superb under floor heating for the winter months. We received a warm welcome and found Phoebe to be a mine of information on the area and places of interest.

There is plenty of tourist information and a huge map of the area in the apartment.

There is a good sized bed and ample storage in the bedroom. There was an ample supply of hot water and both bathroom fittings and kitchen appliances worked well.

Patio doors open on to a sunny terrace with furniture for outdoor eating. There are many mature trees around the property.

Ten minutes away are bus stops for the service running between Grasse and Nice, an excellent option during busy times when
    parking might be difficult.

There is a supermarket nearby and an excellent greengrocer. Together they can supply most people's needs.

The off-street parking is conveniently just outside the door to the apartment.

There is so much to see in the area, we are sure this will be the first of many visits.

  • Fantastic place in such a beautiful area in the Provence...the apartment is shut away enough that you have your privacy from the main house, yet Phoebe warmly welcomes you with a selection of goodies and general local information on walks, museums etc. The apartment is great, shower hot and powerful and bed super comfy. The garden terrace is great for eating out, although it was a bit chilly when we were there, but in hotter weather would be a great place to relax, and there is a bbq you can use. Would love to come back here to explore more and spend more time relaxing in the garden...great walks, and very near the Matisse chapel and Foundation Maeght, and some lovely hill top villages.

  • We had a wonderful time at Phoebe's place. Its a really cute apartment that is very clean... plus you have a whole back yard all to yourself! The best though was Phoebe's tips on places to visit and eat in the area. My wife and I had one of our best dinners at a great place she recommended as well as beautiful secluded beach and hike. Phoebe also provided some great treats upon arrival to make us feel at home. We felt like we had a unique experience of the area on top of a lovely stay. We'll definitely come back and have already recommended it to many friends.

  • Phoebe's place is an absolute gem. The location is perfect for exploring the French Riviera as well as the mountain hinterlands. The apartment is very clean & modern with lots of charm. It's obvious a lot of thought has gone into making your stay as comfortable as possible. Our 14 year old son was especially thrilled with the access to English TV stations and the space & amenities outside. We all found the extensive tourist information & recommended day trips a real help to make the most of the few days we had.Phoebe and her family could not have been more hospitable if they tried and we would highly recommend a stay at Lou Messugo to anyone looking for accommodation away from the crowds.

  • After living in Roquefort-les-Pins for nearly three years, when I went back for a short visit I couldn't think of a better place in the area to stay than Lou Messugo. And despite the fact that I was traveling alone with my two small children, our time at Lou Messugo was the most relaxing and enjoyable part of our 10-day trip. Phoebe has thought carefully about every little detail to make guests comfortable and feel right at home. The apartment is new and sparkling clean, well-organized, and equipped with everything you might need on holiday. The location is perfect: gorgeous and quiet, but with easy access to the energy of bigger towns and cities (not to mention the beach and skiiing) and we had beautiful, perfect weather even though it was February! There is plenty of space for children to run and play, as well as toys and equipment to suit kids of all ages, and the hosts were extraordinarily gracious on every front. My only regret is that we could not have stayed longer; looking forward to the next time we're able to visit!

  • A wonderful place with wonderful host. Phoebe & her family go out of their way to make your stay perfect. This is truly the best place I've stayed in in a very very long time. I urge everyone to spend time here!!! I WILL be back, thank you again for such a great experience.

  • What a find! What a gem! We were so happy to find this marvellous place with such a kind host. The apartment is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in a pretty provencale and modern style. There are books and magazines to read and a folder of really helpful notes. Phoebe also provides some delicious local produce as a welcome gift and toiletries. There are lots of brochures and leaflets for local attractions and Phoebe advised us about places to go and places to avoid. We were really happy with her local tips! She goes out of her way to help and organised transport for us when our car broke down. We really liked talking to her and her husband about their travels and interesting life. Even in winter this area is full of super places to visit and Phoebe's place is so well placed to see them all. We feel we made some new friends in a beautiful part of France and we will certainly be back again. Book this apartment you will love it!!!!!!

Lou Messugo self-catering holiday apartment
Hi, I'm British/Australian married to a French guy. We have 2 kids. We built our house ("Lou Messugo") in 2009 in the most amazing part of the south of France because after a lifetime of travel we knew we'd found somewhere pretty special to put down roots. I've lived in 9 countries including India, Australia, Iceland and Vietnam amongst other places and travelled extensively throughout the world but France has been my home for the longest I've lived anywhere. I love my life in this beautiful corner of France. I enjoy blogging about it and sharing it with others both through writing and in the flesh with my guests from all over the world. Travel and meeting people from different cultures are my passions. I'd be delighted to host you at Lou Messugo so get in touch!
