The Space

Recently built 1 bedroom apartment "Lou Messugo" sleeps up to 4 people and is attached to, but fully independent of, our beautiful Provencal family home in the stunning French Riviera. Set in a large garden with swimming pool, surrounded by pine trees and private Mediterranean gardens, this tranquil setting is only a few minutes' walk to the local town centre with all amenities.

The apartment has 1 bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a double sofabed, a beautiful modern bathroom with large shower, a kitchenette (with 2 ring hob, microwave, grill, dishwasher & all necessary equipment for cooking your own meals) satellite TV, iPod dock, WIFI (free & unlimited), sunny patio with BBQ and sun loungers. We provide all linen and bath towels. Pool towels are available at an extra cost if required.

On site we have a range of facilities including a large trampoline, pétanque pitch, table tennis, badminton & croquet. We are happy to lend out our bicycles (varying sizes incl baby seat) and of course there is the fabulous pool.

To make life easy we can provide most necessary equipment for travelling with babies/toddlers such as a travel cot, high chair, booster seat, plastic plates/cutlery/cups, changing mat and a good selection of toys/books/DVDs. We know just how much paraphenalia the smallest members of the family come with as we've been there!

The town of Roquefort les Pins has everything you require on a daily basis with 2 delicious bakeries (for those buttery croissants, pain au chocolats and crunchy baguettes), a supermarket, fabulous vegetable shop/deli, newsagents (with foreign papers), banks, cafés, several excellent restaurants (walking distance) and a weekly market. It is on the bus route from Nice to Grasse (passing by Nice airport) which makes it possible to spend time at Lou Messugo using only public transport though to make the most of this stunning and varied area we strongly recommend you have your own car.

We are ideally located between mountains and sea, only 20-30 mins to beautiful beaches and the buzzing towns of Cannes & Nice and less than 1 hour to the nearest ski resort. This area really does offer something for everyone: stunning scenery, adventure sports, beaches, shopping, hiking, mountain biking, golf, fabulous food, gorgeous medieval hill villages, art galleries and much much more.

We live on site and are available to help with language issues (booking restaurants, onward travel, tickets for events/trips etc) and we're always happy to advise on what to do in the area. We've lived here for 6 years and spend as much time as possible exploring all the amazing things on offer, from canyoning, hiking, sailing, skiing, golf through to museums, art galleries, undiscovered country villages via shopping, restaurants and markets Our kids have grown up here so we can suggest things to do with the little ones too. We love helping our guests get the most out of their time in our beautiful part of the world and we love hearing all about your travels too. But we are also sensitive to our guests need for privacy so if you want to be left alone that's absolutely fine too. You're fully independent of us so it's up to you how much contact you want.

In the apartment you'll find plenty of brochures for local attractions, a large-scale map of the area, guide books in French and English and a selection of novels (many of them set in the area) for you to borrow and swap. We can provide hiking maps, picnic sets, parasols for the beach, most things to make your holiday fun, just ask!!

This part of France is gorgeous at any time of year and our proximity to the mountains means Lou Messugo can even be used as a base for days out skiing or show-shoe trekking. Winter is mild and short with plenty of sun and midday temperatures often getting up to 18° in January making it possible to sit out on a sunny restaurant terrace for lunch even in mid-winter! The apartment is fully heated for a cosy stay in the cooler months.

Please take a look at the Guide Book I've prepared to give you an idea of some of the great things you can do in the area. It's far from exhaustive as there's just so much more on offer particularly in the catagory of restaurants. It would be impossible to list all the fabulous places to eat from cosy local cafés to gourmet bistros and gastronomic palaces! Many of my favourite places don't show up on the map search for this guide book but I'd be delighted to tell you about them. Please feel free to ask me for tips and local knowledge.

  • It was a very enjoyable stay, unfortunately much too short. The apartment is nicely decorated and you feel at home right from the start. Nice and quiet area, but not too far from Nice. A car is highly reccomended
We'd love to return upon our next visit.

  • This a light, airy apartment with superb under floor heating for the winter months. We received a warm welcome and found Phoebe to be a mine of information on the area and places of interest.

There is plenty of tourist information and a huge map of the area in the apartment.

There is a good sized bed and ample storage in the bedroom. There was an ample supply of hot water and both bathroom fittings and kitchen appliances worked well.

Patio doors open on to a sunny terrace with furniture for outdoor eating. There are many mature trees around the property.

Ten minutes away are bus stops for the service running between Grasse and Nice, an excellent option during busy times when
    parking might be difficult.

There is a supermarket nearby and an excellent greengrocer. Together they can supply most people's needs.

The off-street parking is conveniently just outside the door to the apartment.

There is so much to see in the area, we are sure this will be the first of many visits.

  • A gem of a place! Very comfortable and exceptionally well-maintained. Phoebe takes a huge amount of pride in ensuring that absolutely everything a guest could need is to hand, and she am her family strike that perfect balance of being sociable, friendly and welcoming hosts with assuring privacy, calm and personal space. The apartment is well located, with that gorgeous coastline within easy access, both by car and by public transport, but nestling in the hills with fantastic inland places to explore. I can see that Lou Messugo has wonderful experiences to offer in any season.

  • Overall an excellent place to relax. The flat is situated in a calm area, but with only a 10 min. walk to the town centre, with a well stocked supermarket, bakery, etc. We were here without a car - and with two small kids - and managed to get around just fine. The bus to Nice takes about an hour, costs €1.50, and you can hop on it in the town centre, or one bus stop which is a bit closer. The bus also stops at the train station in Cagnes-sur-Mer, and from there you can take the train along the coast in either direction.
The flat itself is spacious and modern. It also has direct access to a large piece of the garden, which is separated from the hosts' garden enough to make it feel private, and also not worry about bothering the hosts when your children run around playing.
The host herself, Phoebe, is wonderful. We arrived too late to get the bus from the airport, but Phoebe had arranged a driver to pick us up and drive us to the flat. There she let us in, even though it was quite late, and inside waited a few welcoming items, such as bread, cheese and wine. She fulfilled any request we had, and also took us by car herself to the market in Valbonne that was a bit hard to reach by public transport, and helped us transport our luggage to the bus when we left.

  • Phoebe's got a very comfortable house and a nice garden. It's max comfort in a small space which is very clever. There is so much to do in the area, never a dull moment. Phoebe is a wonderfull warm personality.

  • Lovely apt and lovely host who made our stay as relaxing and easy as possible. We were very grateful for the toddler friendly touches and extra beach equipment and the welcome pack on arrival was just super. Lou messugo is ideally placed and we found the surrounding area perfect for a busy but relaxed holiday.

  • Phoebe's place was fantastic! Our little boy loved coming home to the lovely garden and watching out for woodpeckers!! Phoebe was always on hand to help with out touristy questions, with her dinner recommendation leading to us having the most delicious dinner of our holiday!! The villa was perfect for our needs, we loved feeling like locals!

  • We stayed at Phoebe and her family's beautiful apartment for 3 nights and had a really nice and relaxed stay. Everything was clean and ready as we arrived late at night and the correspondence before our trip was swift and clear as well. I can truly recommend this place if you're up for a tranquil stay in beautiful surroundings!

  • Phoebe was extremely helpful both in planning and enjoying our week long stay in Southern France. Her email comms were the best and our arrival was greeted by her & a small welcome basket of food & wine. Our visit was off-season in February & we found her apartment very warm and welcoming. The area was very nice and we especially enjoyed the ability to walk to many things from her house. Thank you Phoebe.

Lou Messugo self-catering holiday apartment
Hi, I'm British/Australian married to a French guy. We have 2 kids. We built our house ("Lou Messugo") in 2009 in the most amazing part of the south of France because after a lifetime of travel we knew we'd found somewhere pretty special to put down roots. I've lived in 9 countries including India, Australia, Iceland and Vietnam amongst other places and travelled extensively throughout the world but France has been my home for the longest I've lived anywhere. I love my life in this beautiful corner of France. I enjoy blogging about it and sharing it with others both through writing and in the flesh with my guests from all over the world. Travel and meeting people from different cultures are my passions. I'd be delighted to host you at Lou Messugo so get in touch!
