Beautiful sunny 1 bedroom apartment "Lou Messugo" is ideally located to explore the French Riviera in quiet town between coast & mountains. Swimming pool, garden & private sun-trap terrace. Award-winning accommodation. Provencal charm guaranteed!

The space

Bright sunny 1 bedroom apartment "Lou Messugo" sleeps up to 4 people and is attached to, but fully independent of, our beautiful Provencal family home in the world-famous French Riviera. Set in a large garden with swimming pool on a no-through road, this tranquil setting is only a few minutes' walk to the local town centre with all amenities.

The apartment has 1 bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a double sofa bed, a beautiful modern bathroom with large shower, a kitchenette (with 2 ring hob, oven, microwave/grill, fridge, dishwasher & all necessary equipment for cooking your own meals) satellite TV, hifi with USB connexion, WIFI (free & unlimited), sunny patio with BBQ and sun loungers. We provide all linen and bath towels. Pool towels are available at an extra cost if required.

On site we have a range of facilities including a large trampoline, pétanque (boules) pitch, table tennis, badminton & croquet. We are happy to lend out our bicycles (varying sizes incl baby seat) and of course there is the fabulous pool.

To make life easy we can provide most necessary equipment for travelling with babies/toddlers such as a travel cot, high chair, plastic plates/cutlery/cups, changing mat and a good selection of toys, books & games. We know just how much paraphernalia the smallest members of the family come with as we've been there!

We live on site and are available to help with language issues (booking restaurants, onward travel, tickets for events/trips etc) and we're always happy to advise on what to do in the area. We've lived here for nearly 10 years and spend as much time as possible exploring all the amazing things on offer, from canyoning, hiking, sailing, skiing, golf through to museums, art galleries, undiscovered country villages via shopping, restaurants and markets. Our kids have grown up here so we can suggest things to do with the little ones too. We love helping our guests get the most out of their time in our beautiful part of the world and we love hearing all about your travels too. But we are also sensitive to our guests need for privacy so if you want to be left alone that's absolutely fine too. You're fully independent of us so it's up to you how much contact you want.

In the apartment you'll find plenty of brochures for local attractions, a large-scale map of the area, guide books in French and English and a selection of novels (many of them set in the area) for you to borrow and swap. We can provide hiking maps, picnic sets, parasols for the beach, most things to make your holiday fun, just ask!!

This part of France is gorgeous at any time of year and our proximity to the mountains means Lou Messugo can even be used as a base for days out skiing or show-shoe trekking. Winter is mild and short with plenty of sun and midday temperatures often getting up to 18°c (65°F) in January making it possible to sit out on a sunny restaurant terrace for lunch even in mid-winter! The apartment is fully heated for a cosy stay in the cooler months.

Please browse through the guide I've prepared here to give you an idea of some of the great things you can do in the area. It's far from exhaustive as there's just so much more on offer particularly in the category of restaurants. It would be impossible to list all the fabulous places to eat from cosy local cafés to gourmet bistros and gastronomic palaces! Many of my favourite places don't show up on the map search for this guide book but I'd be delighted to tell you about them. I also write a blog which can be found using the name of the house in which I talk about local places of interest, places to visit, festivals, French culture and much more. I hope you'll try and find it and have a read. Otherwise please feel free to ask me for tips and local knowledge.

Guest access

Guests have their own key and being in a separate apartment are fully independent to come and go as they like. There are no rules! They have access to a large garden with a pétanque pitch, trampoline, ping-pong table and badminton. They also have access to the pool during daylight hours (and in season, roughly May - late September depending on the weather) which is shared with us, the owners. If needed guests can store large items such as bicycles, golf clubs, skis, etc in our garage.

Interaction with guests

We play it by ear as to how much we interact with guests. After more than 6 years running a very successful vacation rental we usually get a good feel for whether our guests want to chat and socialise or be left alone completely. As the apartment is fully independent there is no need to interact, but often the desire is there and we all enjoy getting to know each other. Each booking is different! We do however live on site and are nearly always here during bookings so guests will see us around though we are respectful of their privacy and discrete.

Phoebe provided everything we needed and more ! All of the individual things that had been lacking at previous AirBnB stays were provided by Phoebe - washing machine & dryer, WiFi, no steps or hornets and even a night light.

We weren't sure what to expect when we booked Phoebe's apartment on a wet Sunday evening in March. The reviews seemed too good to be true but the reality was even better. The warm welcome combined with grade A facilities in an exceptional location cast a spell on us. We are duty bound to return. A tranquil week in the magical Cote d' Azure sun was the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of daily life. Our children, 14 & 16 loved the pool under the shade of the pine trees. It seems like it was already a dream....

A peaceful and relaxing apartment in a tranquil location. Still possible to walk to the village where there is a supermarket and a selection of good restaurants and bars, a fantastic fruit and veg shop and bakery. Half an hour in the car will take you to the glitz and glamour of the Cote d'azur. Lots of pretty hill villages within the same driving distance. The perfume museum at Grasse is definitely worth a trip. Phoebe and family are kind and knowledgeable hosts. The pool and garden are both lovely. I'm sorry we have to go home :-(

Our stay at Phoebe's place was great! Her house is very clean and well taking care of. Everything you will need is in the house and functional. Supermarket, pastry shop, restaurants, bus stop are walking distant. We had rented a car and visited many places during our stay, from saint Tropez to Menton. Coming back to Lou Messugo after a busy day of visiting for a light dinner and wine on the patio was perfect. Phoebe is a great host always there if you have questions or need suggestions. The best was having my breakfast and coffee on the patio while the sun was rising - so peaceful! Would definitely go back to Lou Messugo.

What a wonderful place to stay! Clean, quiet, welcoming and so central to the Cote d'Azure. Monaco within an hour, Cannes around the corner, Nice half an hour. We visited some great beaches in the area too. The apartment is well-equipped and with enough space for our family of four... especially because we could enjoy our meals outside on the terrace. Thanks for a great stay, Phoebe!

Phoebes place was great and everything you could want. Lots of room inside and out, convenient, clean, lots of amenities and good location. The house and area information book was also extremely helpful. Our only negative was the bed was extremely firm. This is ok if you like a very firm mattress but being 6 months pregnant it was extremely uncomfortable for me and I didn't sleep well during my stay at all. This is down to personal preference though. Many thanks Phoebe

Phoebe User ProfilePhoebe is a superhost.

Hi, I'm British/Australian married to a French guy. We have 2 kids. We built our house ("Lou Messugo") in 2009 in the most amazing part of the south of France because after a lifetime of travel we knew we'd found somewhere pretty special to put down roots. I've lived in 9 countries including India, Australia, Iceland and Vietnam amongst other places and travelled extensively throughout the world but France has been my home for the longest I've lived anywhere. I love my life in this beautiful corner of France. I enjoy blogging about it and sharing it with others both through writing and in the flesh with my guests from all over the world. Travel and meeting people from different cultures are my passions. I'd be delighted to host you at Lou Messugo so get in touch!
