The Space

a duplex offering 2 separate one bedroom apartments for independent travelers....Located in the heart of Merida's historic center, guests can walk just about everywhere to explore the capital city of Yucatan...We have good wireless internet, cable and local cell phone available for guests. There is a covered roof terrace upstairs for enjoying the sunny breezy Merida mornings with outdoor dining table and hammock. Both apartments have fully equipped kitchens with both indoor and outdoor dining areas in case you decide to cook some days during your visit. Weekly rates (and daily) include ALL utilities. Monthly rate does not include costs for electricity which is billed separately upon departure. We can give guests an all inclusive rate if they prefer so be sure to ask if that's important to you. Electricity costs are variable, mainly depending on how often you use air conditioning...but generally $30-$50 per month is typical.

We are a short 10 minute walk to the Zocalo and just 5 minutes from Santa Ana with its park and mercado..then another 5 minutes and you're strolling along the lovely Paseo Montejo where there are numerous cafes, shops and the anthropology museum to visit. There are many coffee shops, cocina economicas (inexpensive lunch spots) grocery, coffee and fresh market options all within a 3 block area. We'll be happy to share our favorites!

For wandering beyond Centro, there are taxis and public buses. Local bus fare is 6 pesos (about 50 cents) and they have many routes throughout the city. For visiting ruins or other towns, there are bus terminals downtown that offer connections to almost anywhere in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Our house is furnished with eclectic pieces and decorated with regional folk art and photography... Upstairs has a queen size bed. A local cell phone is provided for each apt..and our property manager is available for assistance during your stay. We live nearby and look forward to welcoming you to our house here!

Our house is ideal for guests who want an excellent central location and enjoy the privacy that comes with having your own place during vacation.

The Neighborhood

Santa Ana has long been a favorite neighborhood for expats and locals alike. There are many inexpensive dining options and entertainment venues are very close by. A local fruit and vegetable market is held every morning, opening at 7:00 AM so visitors can enjoy the fresh tropical produce.

We also have several art galleries and museums within walking distance. Merida is known for its many cultural activities including music, visual arts, theater and dance events. There is something almost every night of the week....all within walking distance!

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • I stayed at Casa Linz in Dec '13. I really enjoyed my stay, the location is very central -- walking distance to everything -- and the apartment is comfortable, clean and well stocked with everything you might need. I recommend it.

  • An overall perfect experience for our first visit to Merida. We were met at the front door to take us in, get us oriented and offer whatever assistance we needed. Maps, guides and restaurant info abounded for us to augment our own research. Wifi access was very good. Our abode for our five days was the upstairs apartment which couldn't have been better equipped or more pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed the back balcony and hammock looking down on the lovely garden below. The location is on a side road and quiet while a pleasant walk takes you to either Merida historic centro or Paseo Montejo. All felt safe and secure and searching out the small neighborhood restaurants was great fun. All and all a first rate choice.

  • We loved the location. We chose the second-floor apartment and were very happy we did. My wife really liked the design. One room flows right into another, affording privacy and making it easy for one person to sleep while the other cooks or watches TV. The layout also makes it possible to create a breeze by opening the downstairs door and the French doors that lead to the outdoor deck upstairs. There was more than enough room for 2 people. We especially appreciated the architectural details and the use of lighting, such as the four skylights in the living room. The wrought-iron grill work on all the exterior doors and windows made us feel quite safe -- someone intent on breaking and entering would need to use a blowtorch. It was also nice to have a gas stove. My wife fell in love with the modern tiled shower, and the circular screen window was another nice architectural touch. Perhaps the only down side is that the apartment's "pasta," or mosaic tiles, while authentic and beautiful, can cause wear and tear to the joints, especially for those who, like us, are approaching senior citizenship. This is easily remedied, however, by wearing sandals or sneakers with a thick rubber sole. Back to the location: It takes just 5 minutes to walk from the apartment to Santa Ana Church and park, with its cluster of shops and good, cheap eateries; less than 10 minutes to get to Paseo Montejo on foot, and 10-15 minutes to hike to the central plaza, showpiece of Merida's rich historic district, where you can hop aboard the Turibus or sign up for an excursion to a Mayan ruin or ecological preserve. We found Bettye and David and their assistant, Agustin, to be very hospitable--and patient, especially when I (me, not my wife!) lost the apartment keys on a trip to the cenotes of Cuzama.

  • A very pleasant apartment, well furnished, and in a very good place near the city historical center but also close to bus and taxis.
At the same time close to the animation of the center and very quiet.
I spent one very pleasant month in this apartment.

  • Quint place, very helpful hosts, in a fantastic location. Two blocks from some great tacos stands and vegetable market, and 6 blocks from the main Merida square. Really can't beat the location.

My husband and I live in Merida Mexico where we have both a duplex apartment and a large vacation home. We enjoy sharing our home with visitors and will be happy to introduce you to all that Merida has to offer. I'm still working on my Spanish skills but we have a wonderful local property manager who can assist with everything from tours to taxis when needed! Family is scattered all over so I like to travel...will also consider house swaps with our Merida properties.David is a professional photographer interested in capturing the many images of Mexico. I work with sustainable landscape design and enjoy visiting gardens wherever we may travel. We look forward to meeting hosts and welcoming guests throughout our airbnb network.
