Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Spacious walk-out basement apartment with private entrance. Beautiful farm and woodland setting 40 min North of Charleston and 30 min to Spencer. Easily accessed via I-79.

The space
This is a walk out basement apartment with private entrance. We do not alow pets of any kind, vaping or smoking in the apartment. Pond and small stream on the property perfect for kids fishing or to practice your cast. Covered patio space with lawn furniture overlooks the meadow and our small orchard. A gas grill can be set up for your use upon request. Across the stream is a lovely large wooded area where you can watch wildlife or take a short hike when the water is low enough to cross. 2 bedrooms, private laundry room, a large living space and well supplied kitchen make this a great place to stay for a family or small group. Please note that people do live in the upstairs dwelling separate from the apartment. DNR property at Walback lake with free shooting range, hiking and seasonable hunting and fishing 3 miles away. 30 min to Sutton lake and marina. Summersville lake with boating and beaches is about 1 hour away and roughly 2 hours to skiing. Elk River trail access in the town of Clay is 15-20 min away. Kanawha state forest is about 40 min away in Charleston with great family hiking. More intense hiking trails are about an hour away in the Monongahela National Forest and its surrounding areas. The Elk river has public access points in Clay and Clendenin (about 20 miles away) that are great for casual kayaking and fishing. Be sure to enjoy a pizza at Pizzas and Cream (15 min away) and check out the Elk River Trail accessible in Clay or Clendenin (20 min away). Both are unique experiences and tons of fun for the family.

Guest access
Parking is available in the driveway for up to 2 cars or 1 car towing a small boat or trailer. A covered patio is available for guest use. The entryway to the apartment is a shared space that on occasion we will enter during the day to access the workshop. You may use this area to store things such as bikes or hunting gear. The patio is primarily for guests access but note that during warm weather we are frequently in the back yard and greenhouse. There is a gas grill available for guest use but please ask us to hook it up to the gas line for you.

Other things to note
There is a Dollar General store about 5 min away along 36 towards Clay. The closest fully stocked groceries are 30 min away. I advise picking up groceries before you arrive in either Elkview (South) at the Kroger or Flatwoods (North) at the Walmart. No pets are allowed. Wild animals such as coyote, bears and feral dogs live in the nearby area making it unsafe for domestic animals. AC is central AC to the entire property. Guests do not have control of AC temperature but fans are provided in every room. Smoking and vaping is strictly forbidden inside the apartment.

Neighborhood highlights

Though the interstate is nearby (visible and audible) this place can feel secluded and a bit like Wild Kingdom to those used to a more suburban environment. The 2.5 miles from the interstate is a curvy road that people from less mountainous areas will find a little hairy. Understand this is WV and even the interstate is curvy and crowded with wildlife.
