I've lived here 25 years and I provide a personally-written guide to Anchorage that includes favorite restaurants of all types (including dozens within walking distance), best places to go, things to see and do. I have bikes and gear to lend. And I am happy to help you plan your trip to Alaska and answer any questions you have about visiting.
My goal is to provide my guests a great place to stay and great personal service. I want you to have a wonderful, memorable trip. Please read my reviews, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Access is up the stairs shown in the picture, so it is not suitable for someone who is unable to climb stairs. I am happy to help carry your luggage.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you like. I have taken past guests on bike rides and walks, and had them over for a backyard BBQ. I have picked up and dropped off guests from the airport, train station, RV and car rentals, etc. I am happy to give you tips and advice on your stay in Alaska, point you toward fun things to do, places to go, my favorite restaurants, etc. And I'll tell where not to go and what not to waste your time and money on. I live 100 feet away, so I am always available if needed.
My neighborhood is called The South Addition. It's a quiet, residential neighborhood of single family homes. It's the closest residential neighborhood to downtown Anchorage, as close as you can get to downtown Anchorage and still be in a residential area. Surrounded by parks and playgrounds. Two grocery stores within walking distance. The downtown visitor core of Anchorage is a 5-block walk, as are numerous restaurants and attractions, the Anchorage Museum, The Performing Arts Center, and much more. Very suitable for younger kids -- three playgrounds are a short walk. Close to the gorgeous Coastal Trail (highly recommended for walking and biking).
Off-street parking is provided. Bus stop is a 1-minute walk. Train station is 10 blocks. Airport is 11-minute drive or $22 cab ride. Bike rentals nearby. Convenient to everything.
Other Things to Note
I want my guests to have a great stay. If there is anything I can do to make your stay better, just ask. Schedule permitting, I am happy to provide free pick-up and drop-off to the airport, train station, RV and car rental agencies, etc. If you'd like for me to shop for you beforehand or have anything in particular ready and waiting, just let me know.
Check-in is 3 pm, check-out is 11 am. If you need a different check-in or check-out time, please let me know and I will let you know if I can accommodate you.
No smoking inside the apartment. Please smoke outside away from the front door.
Personal marijuana use is now legal in Alaska, and I am fine with that, but that too must be smoked outside.
No candles or open flames.
No extra overnight guests without approval.
Off-street parking is provided for up to 2 cars, but please do not block the large white garage door.
I have the AirBnB "strict" cancellation policy. However, if you need to cancel or change your reservation months ahead of time I have no problem with that and will give a full refund (less whatever AirBnB keeps). For example, if you book in 2015 for summer 2016, and you discover in February 2016 that you need to cancel or change your reservation, I will accommodate that no problem.
At checkout I request that you fill and run the dishwasher, leave keys on counter and lock the door behind you. If you have the time and inclination to start a load of laundry, that would be appreciated.
I will be as social with you as you like. Some guests like to say hi, some guests might like to hang out or go for a bike ride, and some guests like to be completely left alone. Just let me know.
