The Space

Life is good in Montclair!

Enjoy your own private space in this beautifully maintained 1907 Victorian Craftsman style home in Montclair NJ. A beautiful home with lots of original details and classic charm. Hardwood floors throughout, beautiful moldings, newly renovated kitchen and two fireplaces. Enjoy a glass of wine on the wrap around porch, or in front of the fire when it's cold outside.

Located in downtown Montclair, the home is an easy walk to shops, restaurants and cultural activities. Montclair is a charming old town that could be a destination unto itself: visit the Montclair Museum of Art, hang out at one of our coffee shops, browse for antiques or dine at one of the over 100 restaurants in town.

And we are easily accessible to Manhattan. Only a short walk to the train or bus to New York City; 30 minute drive by car. Once there, you have easy access to the Theater District, Hells Kitchen, Chelsea, the Village, Chinatown, Little Italy and all that great neighborhoods that make New York City a worldwide destinations. A native New Yorker, I'm happy to make recommendations of sights to see in the city, assist with reservations, etc

Off street parking is included, as are wifi and FIOS TV. I will make coffee in the morning for you.

Also known as Greyhound Lodge for my pups, note that three retired greyhounds names Phinneas, Bernadette and Josie will welcome you upon arrival. Travelers must be dog-friendly.

Is Comforts of Home already booked? I added two additional listings on Airbnb. Check out Top of the Morning Montclair! and Rest and Relaxation Montclair! Same house - more rooms - I can now accomodate up to 8 people total.

I look forward to welcoming you to my home!

  • Our family stayed at John's place this past weekend because we were in town for the NYC Hot Sauce Expo and our stay was absolutely delightful. John's house is beautiful, safe and clean. Our children loved his three greyhounds. We woke every morning to fresh brewed coffee and offerings of Cream of Wheat and use of the gorgeous kitchen. We stayed on the 3rd floor and it was just lovely. It has a door at the foot of the stairs for privacy and the beds were SO comfortable! It felt great to come "home" after long, tiring days. We were relaxed and glad we spent probably a third of what our friends spent on a small hotel room in NYC. The commute is very easy and Montclair is only about 15 miles from NYC. Would highly recommend this property and we will definitely be back!

  • We stayed with John for a week while we were attending a class in Montclair. We each had our own bedroom with everything we could possibly need, the dogs were incredibly sweet and very quiet and John was just great! He is a very warm interesting person and we really enjoyed getting to know him. So much better than staying in a hotel! John's house became our home away from home. We will definitely stay there the next time we go to a class in Montclair.

  • My daughter and I were thrilled to discover a new place to stay in Montclair and John's hospitality was excellent. The house is spacious with room to socialize and also room for privacy. We both felt welcome and comfortable enough to plan on a return stay in the near future.

  • I had the pleasure of staying 9 nights in John's Montclair house, and I loved every minute of it. I got to do some really cool things in Manhattan (ice-skating in Central Park, seeing some old Bobby Dylan haunting grounds, walking through an exclusively hasidic jew neighborhood in Williamsburg), but i have just as many good memories from the time i spent in Montclair. John and I decorated the christmas tree together, my friends and i spent a few hours in a cool cafe called Trend, and i heard some frightening and hilarious stories from John (and his house guests Catherine and Kia). One of the best weeks of my life. I will definitely be coming back soon :)

  • Our 5th time staying with John. Barbara and I love the place and John. I wish my place was decorated as nicely. Warm, comfortable, clean but very cool, ecclectic and stylish as well.

  • We cannot say enough about generous John ( now Uncle John to our youngest). Wonderful, honest hospitality in an eclectic house full of warmth and fun. We are reluctant to leave, but Christmas celebrations await. Thank you John for such an enjoyable, memorable and comfortable stay - we can't wait to return !

  • What more can we say? This is our second time stay with John in his amazing and lovely home. John makes anyone's stay a joy and one you won't soon forget. He always makes you comfortable and goes the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need. The house is beautiful and cozy and close to the train into NYC. The town of Montclair is full of great places to eat and shop. John is very knowledgeable about the area and always gives you great ideas on what to see and how to get there. He is officially a member of our family and we can't wait to come back to visit John and Phinn (His adorable dog). Our kids and 4 year old grand-daughter fell in love with the house (and John) and we all had the best Thanksgiving ever. Thanks John, we'll see you in May!

  • John helped me out at the very last minute when I was stranded in Montclair, opening up his beautiful home to me in the post-Hurricane Sandy chaos. John is an example of how Airbnb gives you a place to stay, but also a chance to meet really interesting people.

    Looking forward to meeting again!

  • When we arrived New Jersey at train station and John was already there to pick us up!!! The house is located in the beautiful area in New Jersey. Supermarkets, bus station, train station and the main street just nearby!!! The house is big and all the equipment is well maintenance.
At first, we just stayed 4 nights in John's house, but Sandy came and then we stayed 3 days more here. Although there was no power at all, John still helped us prepare breakfast and dinner with some red wine and fireplace everyday!!! There was no transportation to NY at that time but John helped us to find a carpool with his neighbor when we need to leave to catch our flight!!!
We really thank that John helped us some many things when we were in New Jersey!!! Highly recommend to stay here!!
