We enjoyed our stay at Denton's villa! The pool was great and the bedroom was clean, comfortable, and new.
The place is slightly outside of town so you will need to rent a scooter to get into town. With a scooter, it's only a 5 minute drive.
Very nice, local neighborhood. The house staffer, Wayan, was super nice and very helpful with our questions. She even helped us rent a scooter.
One negative was the wifi. When it works, it works well. Unfortunately, it dropped frequently during our stay.
Overall, we had a great time staying at this villa in (website hidden) The three cats at the villa are playful roommates :)
Our stay at Denton's was quite nice. Although it is a little far from Ubud's center, this is both a blessing and a curse. It isn't difficult to get someone to drive you into Ubud for about $5USD (which I actually think is a bit high for the short drive), so you aren't stuck, but it does require a little planning. On the upside, it was wonderfully peaceful and that is more important to me than convenience. Wayan, the lady who cleans, is a darling and very helpful. And although Denton wasn't there (off in Canada for the summer :)>), we didn't experience any problems. Problems were resolvable through a building manager if we had needed it. The pool was nice - a good size and cleaned daily. My favorite part though was probably Zeus and Delialah. There are two cats that live at the villa and they are absolute darlings. Each morning, they would run upstairs to greet us and promptly curl into our laps for attention! I adored them. I would definitely stay at Denton's again and would recommend it to others. My only (very small complaint) was that the wifi kept cutting out. Internet connection in Ubud is really, really slow compared to the rest of the island (I had better wifi in Amed!!), but Denton's wifi is acceptable when it works. We couldn't get wifi in our rooms upstairs (no big deal), and about half the time, the internet would just stop working. Had Denton been there, this probably would have been resolved because he uses it for work. That said, I didn't go to Bali to use the internet, so I wasn't much fussed by it.
This place is divided into six large rooms with veranda's or balconys overlookig a nice green garden with swimming pool. The beds are great, but the interior is a bit plain. By the look of the garden and the rooms you would expect great bathrooms, which are a bit of a dissapointment. This place is great for people that stay in Ubud for long term and are willing to invest in their own room decoration.
The villa is located in Lohtundu, a small sub-village of Ubud between rice paddys and with some traditional Balinese lifestyle going on. A motorbike is advicible tho, since the distance to the center is quite far and not a pleasant walk by a bussy road. Also get some detailed adress information, since none of the airport nor local taxi-drivers seemed to know where this place is located. A name and a direction sign for this place might be a good investment.
The staff (Wayan) is very friendly but not always arround. Some information about the area would be nice aswell.
To be honest, had I known the exact location, I might not have booked this place, but I am so glad that I did! It suited my personally and needs for a relaxing space. It's in South Ubud, so it was on the opposite end of town from the folks from my reunion group. I didn't dare risk riding a scooter for the very first time, especially on the left side of the road, which was new for me. The other folks living there also said I'd be best taking a taxi (about 50,000 IDR to Center). I really enjoyed that the villa is in a neighborhood just bustling with local activity. It looked and sounded like I was going to a farm at first, but all the housing is kind of hidden down lanes.
Denton was off to Canada during my stay, so I did not have a chance to meet him, but he left me contacts that were very helpful and able to arrange a taxi or other transportation when I needed it. His staff at the villa (housekeeper and gardener) are also very friendly and helpful. They helped me connect to the internet and practice my Indonesian language. A friendly local neighbor even offered motorcycle taxi rides.
I definitely recommend having a SIM card in your phone so you are free to call people or call for delivery should you feel lazy and want to stay in for a day, especially on a rainy day. Denton had some great recommendations that he emailed to me.
I really enjoyed the pool and found it quite refreshing after being out all day in the humid weather. The bed was so comfortable that I had probably the best sleep of my whole trip at this location. The mosquito net surrounding the bed was also a very welcome addition. I will say this though, if you are a light sleeper, this place will not make you happy. I sleep hard and I loved all the night sounds, the early morning farm animal (rooster, pigs, cows, ducks) sounds, and the prayer/chanting that arose at certain hours. Light sleepers may have trouble.
I did actually walk back to the villa once during my stay. It took about 45 minutes from Jalan Dewisita and there were certain areas that had no sidewalks. I enjoyed the walk, but it wasn't something that was made for an everyday experience.
I like to cook too, but be aware that ants will come for any of the food left out, and they arrive fast! For me, this was maybe the only drawback since the kitchen is shared and not everyone staying was concerned about the ants or keeping things clean, but the company was great otherwise.
Bonus to Denton's place: he has a passion fruit tree in his yard and two very friendly cats! Overall, this was a great experience for me and I would definitely stay there again.
The villa was great, we really enjoyed our time there. Plenty of room, a lovely pool and beautiful gardens, what more could you ask for. Denton was very helpful, hooked us up with a good driver, great babysitter etc etc. A1 host. The only down side was we experienced some issues with continuity of water supply, all sorted promptly though. Highly recommend this place.
amazing first time experience using bnb :) Denton was an awesome host, was so understanding when i delayed my arrival, helped me out getting some useful information and contacts in the area.
The house is clean, the pool is lovely, there is hot water and the best internet in town(tried and tested)
Wouldve been happy to stay much longer, but unless you got the courage to ride a scooter.,its a little bit too far from the towncentre by foot., and puppy; the new addition to the household is tooo cute!! Defo recommend :)
Overall we had an amazing time in the villa. We didn't see Denton too much but it was always easy to get a hold of him if we needed anything or had any questions. He arranged for us to get picked up from the airport as well as renting a scooter. The only drawback was the wifi not working for a couple days, but Denton recommended some great restaurants to us that also had wifi so it was not a big problem. The location of the villa is perfect because it's just outside Ubud in a small village and you get a real taste for Balinese life. If you want to go into Ubud daily I would recommend renting a scooter though. The villa itself was clean and the pool made it a great place to stay. Thanks for the great time Denton!
Thank You Denton. A couldn't give a more gleaming report in regards to the host, the care and the accomodation.
Awesome host. Denton is one of the friendliest people I have met.
The house is great - beautiful pool, clean room, fresh towels.
It's a little outside the centre of Ubud - although very easy to get to.
I stayed here at the villa near Ubud for 5 nights earlier this month, and it was a great experience. I didn't see Denton, the host, that much during my stay because we were both out and about quite a bit, but he was still so helpful before and during my stay (helped me sort out an airport pickup, let me into the villa the afternoon I arrived and gave me a key, helped me arrange scooter rental, and was always reachable by phone). But the villa itself is also great - it's just a short drive (5-10 minutes) south of central Ubud, close to great food, nestled by some gorgeous rice paddies, is in a quiet spot, and generally, is just really peaceful and relaxing (there's a pool with some loungers next to it, and I had a comfortable room with aircon). It was just what I was looking for.
