The Space

Very convenient location close to Cornell, public transportation, supermarket, restaurants, mall, movie theaters, and banks. Cornell Ornithology Lab, and Arboretum, are a few miles away. Special opportunity for sabbaticals. Fully furnished, architecturally interesting home, easy one level living. The house has 3 bedrooms (1 master bedroom with a new king size bed with a latex mattress, 1 bedroom has a new queen size memory foam mattress, the other bedroom has a single bed) and accommodates 5 people comfortably on real beds. If there are more guests than 5 I can arrange a queen size sofa bed in the sun room. Extra guests after 4 have to pay the same amount of $65 per person per night. If there were only one or two guests interested they can still use one or two rooms, the kitchen, bathroom and the dining room. There are two full baths, one with Jacuzzi. Spacious living room with fireplace. Kitchen with separate dining room, and laundry area. Linens and toiletries are provided. Sun room with tropical plants. Attached garage for monthly rentals only (two months minimum to be able to use the garage). The front garden and backyard have mature plantings, trees and a creek running along the property. Gym equipment and bikes could be provided. Great for barbecues with friends and family during the warm months of the year. There is public transportation nearby. The bus stop is one block away from the house. The price ($65) is per person per night. Minimum 2 nights.
My home is professionally cleaned by Beth the day previous to the guests’ arrival, and in the case of long term rentals, the house is professionally cleaned again during the second week. This is free service offer to my respected guests,

  • My wife and I visited Ithaca to attend our daughter's graduation from Cornell University. We spent three nights at Miguel’s beautiful house and were joined by our son and his wife for a night and two days. The house is really quite beautiful, spacious, with modern comforts, elegantly furnished and decorated with artifacts from around the world. The Cornell campus was just a stone’s throw away and our daughter’s apartment easily accessible. Between attending various commencement functions on campus, heading into or out of town for meals and sight-seeing, and visiting or being visited by our daughter, we scarcely felt any distance or burden of getting around. We woke up each morning to the beauty of a serene neighborhood filled only with birdsong. At arrival, we were met by charming Rene who was extremely helpful in telling us where to find various things and provided us with bagels, cheese, eggs, milk and coffee which kept our breakfasts going for three days. Our celebration of our daughter's graduation was made even more memorable thanks to the happy experience of our stay.

    Response from Miguel:

It has been a very gratifying experience to host Mr. Mohan and his wife during the celebration of their daughter’s graduation ceremony at Cornell University. I am glad to hear that they have enjoyed their stay and found everything they needed to make this event more memorable. They are very responsible guests and left the house clean and tidy. Mohan and his family are the kind of guests you wish you would always get,
    Best wishes.

  • Miguel was very hospitable. The room was clean, the house was clean, Miguel was very attentive making sure I had everything I needed. I felt very comfortable, I will look him up again next time I'm in Ithaca.

  • I have stayed in many vacation rentals, and there is a certain level of upkeep that I expect when paying this amount of money to stay somewhere. Unfortunately, this house did not meet these expectations. The house was very messy when we arrived. There were empty soda cans in some of the bedrooms. Piles of trash in the corners of the living and sun rooms. Spider webs everywhere. To be fair, I have a high standard of cleanliness. However, I had two college students staying here with me as well. College students are not known for their cleanliness, but even they thought that the house was unacceptable. In addition to the trash, there was just so much stuff everywhere. It's clear that this house is normally lived in full time by the family that owns it, and they rent it out periodically. So there were many of the trappings of daily living all over the house. They didn't organize or clean up in a way that I thought was appropriate for preparing for renters. Furthermore, many things didn't feel clean enough to use. Many of the dishes in the cupboards were still dirty. The hardwood floors were sticky. And the linens all smelled like mold (probably because the dryer in the house was broken - we had to use the nearby laundromat instead). The weird thing is that the owners were obsessed with keeping the stove-top clean, and insisted that we clean it with a special solution every-time we used it. Very odd.

I could go on and on, but, because of all of these issues, little things like the fact that the house gets great light during the day, or that the internet was excruciatingly slow, didn't really matter. We just never felt comfortable or happy in the house. The owners were nice and did respond to major issues (like the leaking shower in the master bedroom) in a timely manner. But, overall, I would not want to stay in a place like this again.

    Response from Miguel:

I feel honored to be an Airbnb member and also glad that a professional Airbnb photographer took pictures of my home because they show my home as it really is: spotless, clean, cozy, full of light, with a sunroom with tropical plants, and souvenirs from places around the world I have the privilege to travel to.
In order to offer a pleasant, comfortable and enjoyable stay to my guests (serious professionals from different parts of the world doing scientific research at Cornell University, and respectful, proud parents who wanted to visit their children studying or graduating from Ithaca College or Cornell), my home is professionally cleaned by Beth the day previous to the guests’ arrival, and in the case of long term rentals, the house is professionally cleaned again during the second week. This is free service for my respected guests, including David.
In the picture he posted on Airbnb he was holding a little child in his arms. Therefore, I made all necessary arrangements in the house to host a travelling family with a child.
As an example of my willingness to always try to accommodate to the particular needs of my guests, I agreed to satisfy David’s requests. I made a special offer with 40% reduction of the total rental price and installed expensive Sears central air conditioning, mainly because supposedly they were a family travelling with a little child.
Needless to say that now I have to pay an also expensive bill because despite of all my good will the central air conditioning was used carelessly, and fix many other things that were misused, buy a new dryer, and hopefully find all the decoration things that are out of sight at the moment. They have a very important sentimental value to our family.
As an honest member of Airbnb community, for all the reasons mentioned above I would not recommend David as a guest. It is not worth the emotional effort you have to put into it, and a waste of time and money.

  • My wife and I, as well as my wife's parents traveled to Ithaca to attend my daughter's graduation from Ithaca College. We stayed at Miguel's beautiful home during this time, and were positively delighted with our stay! The house is open, airy, and spacious with wood floors throughout. Miguel has decorated his home with many fascinating items from his world travels, and we found all the comforts of home. We took advantage of the fully equipped kitchen to cook several meals, and were able to enjoy our meals together around the large dining room table. We quickly came to feel like Miguel's house was more than just a place to stay, but "home.". The house is located on a quiet cul-de-sac and has a relaxing sunroom and a large backyard.

We had the opportunity to meet Miguel several times during our stay. Miguel was welcoming, charming, as well as interesting and fun to talk with.

All in all, we had an outstanding time staying at Miguel's, and would unequivocally recommend it to others planning a trip to Ithaca.

  • We enjoyed our stay in Ithaca! The home is very nice, clean and comfortable - comfortable beds and living areas. Miguel was a kind host and made us feel very welcome. We especially enjoyed the visit by two deer in the back yard one late afternoon! We would be pleased to stay here again on a future trip.
