About this listing
Get to know Chicago by jumping off from a Classic Logan Square Bungalow. My 100+ year old home is a great place to explore the city from the coolest neighborhood in town. And I will give you tips to see/ do/ eat the best Chicago has to offer.
The house was built in 1908 and has all of the charm of an old home, but with all of the modern conveniences of today (wireless internet, AC, television, etc). The guest room is comfortable with a double bed, dresser, mirror, ceiling fan, a window air conditioning unit (summer months only), two chairs, cd player, record player (on request) and a storage rack for hanging clothes. I provide current issues of the Chicago Reader for the curious traveler. There is a washer/ dryer in the basement and a kitchen is available. The kitchen was completely remodeled in September 2011 and was voted as a finalist in the 2012 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Awards presented by the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association. The first floor bath was also remodeled in January of 2012 and a brand new second floor bathroom was added in the spring of 2014.
You will have full access to most of the house. Including sun room, back yard, kitchen and washer and dryer. Breakfast will not be offered in house, but I do provide gift cards to New Wave Coffee. A funky neighborhood coffee shop that provides great coffee, tea and breakfast options. New Wave is a short three block walk from my place.

My place is located in the greatest part of Logan Square. Logan Square is a dynamic neighborhood where tons of great things happen. Short walks to the Centennial Monument, Lula Cafe, The Logan Square Farmers Markets (summer and winter), Longman and Eagle, The Owl, Palmer Square, Parts and Labor, Wolfbait and B Girls, The Logan Square Auditorium, Jam, The Congress Theater, Revolution Brewing, Boulevard Bike Shop, The Rocking Horse, The Whistler, shopping, art, parks and everything else Logan Square has to offer.
The house is located near many modes of transportation. It’s just a seven minute walk to the Logan Square train stop on the Blue Line or a ten minute walk to the California Blue Line stop. The #74 Fullerton bus stop is a three minute walk and the #56 Milwaukee bus stop is two minutes away. Zipcar and IGo pickup locations are very close as is the Kennedy expressway. There is also easy, safe, permit-free parking on the street. You can usually find a spot directly in front.

Mark was a great host and his home was just as described. Great neighborhood for dining/ bars and the train to Downtown or O'Hare was a 5 minute walk. No question I would stay there again. Mark was very helpful with any needed info about the city and what to see in your travels. A great experience all around.
Mark is a great host. His home is clean, modern, and comfortable. The location is excellent with an eclectic array of restaurants, bars, and coffee shops near by. I would not hesitate to stay at Mark's home again.
Mark is very helpful and considerate. There are all kinds of travel books, city map, CTA map in the room. Towels, shampoo, conditioner, water are all available in his house. Neighborhood is great and peaceful, with only 6min walk to blue line. Restaurants, bars nearby within of 10min walk. Great location!
This was a last minute trip to Chicago for an extended weekend. Overall, it was a great stay and I would definitely recommend staying at Mark's place when visiting the windy city.
- Mark is really friendly and comes off as being genuinely interested in each enjoying there stay and seeing the best of Chicago
A. Mark writes numerous welcome messages and updates with recommendations for getting around each day
B. Regular bottled water provided along with fresh towels
C. Free breakfast cashcards for a nice and local breakfast spot around the corner
- The house is old with a lot of history, which in itself is interesting, but has also been updated in terms of the kitchen and bathrooms so it is a good mix of old and new
A. Room and bathroom are clean and well maintained
B. I was running out of clean clothes and Mark was helpful in getting me set up with the washer and dryer
- The location is just a few minutes walk to the blue line (and and couple of good restaurants) for easy transport into the downtown as well as to the airport
A. Logan Square is on the blue line and somewhat of a midway point between the airport and downtown
B. Lula's is a great restaurant around the corner
- There is a train line that runs a block or so away that can keep you up at night (there are ear plugs provided and I got used to it after a couple of nights)
- I stayed during the summer and relied on the air conditioning which was a bit noisy but it seems to be norm to use the window mounted version in this part of the world and again there are ear plugs
- As mentioned in the pros, whilst easy to get into the downtown, this location is slightly away from the hustle and bustle so could be either a pro or con depending on what you are looking to see
Mark's place is so pretty! The house and the room are exactly the way on the pictures. The train can be a bit noisy at night but Mark provides ear plugs in the room. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends!
I really enjoyed my stay at Mark's. Everything was organized when I arrived. Mark is very personable and knows Chicago history. Since my son lives in Logan Square, it was the perfect location. Lovely home. Quiet street with ample parking. Great cafes and restaurants in walking distance. Also easy access to downtown as well northern suburbs if you want to go to Chicago Botanic Gardens. There is so much to do that we didn't have a lot of time to talk. Next time! Diane.
Mark was a great host from the minute I booked online using clear communication regarding check-in plus was quick to answer any questions during our stay. Mark's home is very comfortable and welcoming with loads of charm and character. My daughter lives in Logan Square as well but decided to stay with me for a few days. With our busy schedule, we didn't get to take advantage of Mark's list of the many fun activities happening around Chicago, but he offers a lot of good information for those visiting the area. Maybe next time!
Logan Square has a fabulous Farmer's Market on the weekends, a great independent book store, local restaurants and coffee shops just minutes from Mark's home which makes this a perfect location. The Logan Square blue line stop is just a short walk as well. We walked everywhere and loved it. Our air-conditioned upstairs room was very comfortable with nice little touches all around. A super nice private bathroom with a great shower was located right next to our room. We really enjoyed meeting Mark and would highly recommend the Classic Logan Square Bungalow.
