Classic Chicago-style bungalow located in the greatest part of Logan Square. Short walks to the Centennial Monument, Lula Cafe, The Logan Square Farmers Markets (summer and winter), Longman and Eagle, The Owl, Palmer Square, The Logan Square Auditorium, Jam, The Congress Theater, Revolution Brewing, Boulevard Bike Shop, The Rocking Horse, The Whistler, shopping, art, parks and everything else Logan Square has to offer.
The house is conveniently located near many modes of transportation. It’s just a seven minute walk to the Logan Square train stop on the Blue Line or a ten minute walk to the California Blue Line stop. The #74 Fullerton bus stop is a three minute walk and the #56 Milwaukee bus stop is two minutes away. Zipcar and IGo pickup locations are very close as is the Kennedy expressway. There is also easy, safe, permit-free parking on the street. You can usually find a spot directly in front.
The house was built in 1908 and has all of the charm of an old home, but with all of the modern conveniences of today (wireless internet, AC, television, etc). The guest room is comfortable with a double bed, dresser, mirror, ceiling fan, a window air conditioning unit (summer months only), two chairs, cd player and a storage rack for hanging clothes. I provide Time Out Chicago magazine and current issues of the Chicago Reader for the curious traveler. There is a washer/ dryer in the basement and a kitchen is available. The kitchen was completely remodeled in September 2011 and was voted as a finalist in the 2012 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Awards presented by the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association. The bathroom was also remodeled in January of 2012.
Breakfast will not be offered in house, but I do provide a $10 gift card/ token (per night) to New Wave Coffee or Gaslight Coffee Roasters (your choice). Both are great little neighborhood coffee shops that provide great coffee, tea and breakfast options. They are both located a short three blocks walk from my place.
I have been a resident of Chicago since 1995 and a proud resident of the Logan Square neighborhood since 2000. I am an avid traveler and I love to provide insightful information and tips to fellow travelers.

In my opinion this is truly what a bed-and-breakfast should be. The room is clean there are extra amenities and Mark is very personable. I will always stay there when I'm in Chicago.
A great Airbnb! It really is as described in the profile. Clean, comfortable, welcoming, and good location. Mark is a warm, welcoming and easy-going host. All in all, highly recommended.
It's about 30 mins on the blue-line from O'Hare, and then a short walk to his house. It's then about another half-hour on the blue-line to Downtown. Which was ideal for me. Logan Square as a neighbourhood has a young, safe and up-and-coming feel.
House-wise, it's got a lovely homely feel. Great wi-fi, big tv, choice of music and Time-Out Chicago magazines. But all that would count for nothing if the host wasn't as open, giving and welcoming. Thanks Mark, I really appreciated your hospitality.
Nice accomodations, extremely clean, and a very cordial and accomodating host. Very good overall experience. While not a negative for us, guests should be aware that the bathroom is on the lower level and staircase is narrow and fairly steep.
Mark was an outstanding host, and his beautiful house is in a great location. He checked on us even before our arrival to ensure that our flight was on time given the storms, and he had great suggestions for food, drinks, and coffee in the neighborhood. We had no trouble sleeping through the sound of passing trains - with the window closed, it wasn't even close to annoying. If you are looking for a stay with a welcoming host within a 5 minute walk of outstanding food, drinks, and coffee and only a 20-30 minute L (subway) ride from the airport (or a 15-20 minute ride from downtown), Mark's house is the place for you. Thank you very much, Mark, and we'd be happy to stay with you again!
This bungalow is ideal for any Logan Square getaway. The location is immediately adjacent to all the neighborhood goodies--Lula, Longman, New Wave, Blue Line--while being tucked back on a residential street. Mark has done an incredible job blending comfort with style. People will appreciate his keen design sense in the little details--local art & music touches really bring the experience home. And Mark himself is a great host, giving lots of space, but offering great conversation when the opportunity arises.
We stayed with Mark in Logan Square recently when we were in town for a wedding. Mark is a wonderful and friendly host who was welcoming and provided tons of helpful information from maps to up-to-date information on events going on that weekend. He also gave us great advice on where we might like to eat/drink and how to get around.
The room (along with the rest of the house) was extremely clean and tidy, including great bathroom, kitchen and dining room that we were encouraged to use. There was even plenty of fresh towels and freshly ground coffee with mugs ready for us to help ourselves to.
The neighbourhood is great with lots to offer, we ate at Lula’s (delicious local and organic food) and also recommend New Wave Coffee for seriously good coffee. The house is a quick walk from the blue line, which was perfect for us because it goes straight to O’Hare airport in one direction and straight into the center of downtown in the other. There are also some great shops and galleries in the area.
The whole stay was an excellent experience and we would definitely stay there again if we were back in Chicago. We would strongly recommend staying here to anyone thinking of visiting the area and needing a place to stay that’s not as expensive as a hotel but even more welcoming.
Mark was a dream host. You can tell right off the bat that he loves having visitors and sharing the wonderful things his city has to offer. He is connected and can always point you in the right direction for something fun.
His place is a dream. Meticulously neat and full of interesting knick nacks. The bed is super comfortable and there are ample towels (which Mark offered to wash if I wanted fresh ones daily).
It's near a bunch of great places to eat and walking distance from a subway stop, an affordable cab ride to most attractions and only ~$35 plus tip cab ride away from Midway Airport.
It truly felt like I made a new friend in Chicago, and almost like I was Mark's temporary roommate not house guest.
I've already started planning my next trip back and am glad to know that I have a wonderful place to stay.
Let me start by saying this, if you are planning a trip to Chicago, STAY WITH MARK! You will be glad you did. About the host: Mark is super laid back. He'll easily make you feel like you're old buddies who've known each other since way back when, and you'll appreciate all of his thoughtful touches to tailor your guest experience to your unique needs. He's never invasive, but he is full of endless advice and entertaining stories should you be interested. About the house: The unique decor and meticulous look of the house definitely speak to the type of individual Mark is. You can tell he has put a lot of love into making his home a warm and welcoming place for his guests. Logan Square is such a lovely neighborhood, and Mark's house is within quick walking distance of the Blue line train to downtown as well as several fantastic restaurants, bars, etc. Mark will make sure you've got everything you need at your fingertips, and you'll feel right at home. I really can not praise him enough for the superb hospitality. I'm afraid I've been spoiled by this airbnb experience, and I look forward to the next chance I get to visit Mark in Chicago!
I'd have to agree with the other 5-star reviews here. This place is 2 blocks from the L stop, super close to lots of great things, easily accessible from ORD. The house is super clean and inviting, with lots of cool rock and roll-type artwork and funky antique road signs and stuff. A really cool pad.
The only two drawbacks -- which weren't enough to even bother knocking off any stars -- were that the bathroom was not on the same floor as the bedroom, and the L train was pretty audible during the night while I was sleeping. (I simply pulled up a white noise app on my iphone and, problem solved!)
His house is very clean and he is very helpful. I will use it again when I visit Chicago.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
