Yes and No, it all depends on how you plan to get around. Villa Tica is situated on the West coast approximately 60 minutes from San Jose, the roads are paved all the way to our front gate. There are buses every hour from San Jose or the airport to Jaco, stopping only minutes from Villa Tica. If you decide to rent a car, there is no need for a 4x4, save your money for other things, unless you want to adventure off road. You will be driving to the West coast on a new Highway towards the famous surf beach, Jaco. Once you make your reservation we will send the directions to Villa Tica.
- IS THERE SOMEONE IN COSTA RICA WHO CAN ASSIST ME WHILE I AM THERE?
Yes, once you book Villa Tica, we will send you the names and phone numbers of our property manager, caretakers and made, who can help you throughout your stay. They are very knowledgeable on the area and will be there at check in & checkout.

Jaco is only 15 minutes by car down the Costaneira Highway, where you will find banks, restaurants, bars, discos, stores etc… A short drive further down the coast takes you to Playa Hermosa one the most famous surfing beaches in Costa Rica.

-ARE THERE RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING NEARBY?
Quebrada Ganado is a small local village with a really good selection of small markets, bakeries, fruit stands, a pharmacy, small stores and restaurants along the Costaneira. Villa Caletas, an upscale French hotel and restaurant is only 10 minutes away by car; further south is the Marriot Hotel, which has restaurants, casino, golf course, marina and a small shopping center.
-ARE THERE EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES CLOSE BY?
Yes, the surrounding area offers, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, zip-lining, boat tours, horseback tours, ATV tours, as well as being located only 10 minutes by car from Carara National Park. There are dozens of picturesque, quiet beaches all the way up and down the Pacific coast, with enough activities and adventures on offer to do something completely different every day! We can also recommend great day trips to Manuel Antonio National Park and Beach, located in Quepos. For surfers, Playa Hermosa has lefts and rights for more experienced surfers. Closer to Villa Tica, Jaco has good waves for every skill level.
-IS IT A SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD?
Quebrada Ganado is a small friendly community, where everyone says hi to everyone. If you wanted a friendly chat or even some more tips on the area, you can ask any of our neighbors and they will gladly help you.

We just returned from our 1 week stay at Villa Tica. It was truly a delight. It was a large, very accommodating home for our group of 6. The bedrooms, kitchen & living area are very spacious & the wrap around porch with hammocks allowed for some very relaxing moments. The beds were very comfortable & we all slept soundly after our days of hiking, ziplining, kayaking & swimming at the local beaches which are just minutes away as is the town of Jaco which is filled with restaurants and souvenir shops. The water pressure in the house is great, which is a must & having a washer & dryer was very convenient. It was also comforting & convenient to have have the property caretakers on site. The locals are very friendly & welcoming & we very much enjoyed the small town feel of Quebrada Ganado where the house is located. We would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to get the most authentic Costa Rican experience. We can't wait to go back! As the locals say "Pura Vida"!

Villa Tica is a lovely, expansive place set in an authentic Costa Rican village. Highlights are the wrap around veranda, surrounding garden and jungle, large extra spaces for yoga, welcoming and helpful property caretaker, firm beds, well-equipped kitchen. It would be heaven if the villa had a pool for hot evenings...

It was a pleasure to be part of your first visit to Costa Rica, and thrilled you and your family had a great time at our Villa and surrounding areas. We always welcome comments and suggestions from our guests, so we can improve not only for ourselves but future guests. Bedside lamps are on our list, mattress pads and cotton sheets as well.....

Villa Tica was amazing - it was exactly what we were looking for. If you are looking for the true Costa Rica experience, Quebrada Ganado is a great place to be. There are beaches near by that you can get to via bicycle or walking and the locals are friendly. We did not rent a vehicle when visiting and I do not think that I would in the future. There are many means of transportation and Carlos, the groundskeeper, was very happy to to guide any questions that we had. Ozzie, it was a great experience. Thanks for letting us stay at Villa Tica!

We stayed 5 weeks in February, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The photos really don't do justice to how big it feels. The groundskeeper and his sons are super friendly and were very helpful (though if you don't speak any Spanish it might be tough). We saw toucans, motmots, mating turkey vultures, large iguanas, chickens and more right from the awesome porch and (large) yard. We also had many nights with 1 or 2 little fruit bats doing laps in the giant main room for a few minutes before heading out for the night. I thought they were pretty cool, and they didn't poop. House geckos are always fun, too. The little river at the back of the property is awesome for kids. There's a little dammed up section that's created a small wading pool. Great for hot days (which are pretty much all days). Tadpoles for kids to catch. Lizards sunning themselves. Really amazing. Or you can take a 4x4 up the river a bit, where there's a lot more shade and you can see basilisks running across the water. (We didn't make it to the waterfall. Apparently it's too far a hike for young kids.) The town of Quebrada Ganado is amazing. Super friendly people. Macaws flying overhead. Sport Pollo has great food (try the patacones especiales). It's small and not touristy at all (I think we were the only Americans in town), but has most everything you might need between the handful of markets, variety stores, pharmacy, panaderias, etc. It also feels very safe. Little kids walking around alone. Bikes left unlocked. Etc. It's ~18min to Jaco if you want, but Playa Blanca is hands down the best beach around. Carlos (groundskeeper) can intro you to a nice local taxi (I forgot his name) who can shuttle you all over for much cheaper than a rental. Manuel Antonio is an easy day trip. NeoFauna reptile & butterfly santuary, Rainforest Adventure for ziplines, crocodile boat tour and horseback rides through the beach and jungle in Tárcoles. Carara is just up the road… Lots nearby if you want it. Also nice: * Almost no mosquitos at all. Shut the house up right before dusk and you'll have no problems. * Fan and extension cords are provided. * Beds have mosquito netting, which is nice to have and surprisingly uncommon. * Above average mattresses. * Washer+dryer! * Optional internet (that works). Kolbi 3g and Claro 2g signal. The only minuses: * Very, very little furniture in the house. The master bedroom is giant, and a desk or chair or something would be nice. * No beach towels. We didn't check bags, and beach towels are comparatively giant in small bags. * Like any house in CR, there are insects and arachnids that share the house. * A neighbor's large tree fell near the house during our stay. Thankfully we were fine, but the sound was terrifying. Still 5 stars though. We loved it. Thanks Ozzie!

A very beautiful, but simple villa located near Jaco. We were looking for a place near Jaco but did not want to stay in a typical hotel with all the tourists. Osmar's Villa was just perfect for what we wanted. It is located at the back of small village and is at the edge of the jungle. The house is just beautiful, with a full kitchen, hot showers, washer and dryer, beds with mosquito netting, and a beautiful wrap around porch. It was great to wake up and sit on the porch listening to birds while drinking coffee or lying in the hammock reading books. It is very peaceful place. The Villa is about 20 minutes away from Jaco, minutes away from a couple of really nice beaches. A few minutes north, there is Carara National Park which is home to Scarlet Macaws. Manuel Antonio National Park is little over an hour away and has some great beaches. Monteverde Cloud Forest is about 2 hours north. There are also small grocery stores in the village and larger ones in Jaco or near Playa Herradura. Since it is not that far away from Jaco, there are plenty of things to do nearby. Surfing, swimming, zip lining, horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, etc... The grounds are well kept and knowing that a housekeeper was on site 24/7 gave us the peace of mind that our belongings were safe while we were out and about.

I am an Immigrant from Brazil who has traveled throughout the United States, Europe, Central and South America. I settled down in Southern California and started my own landscaping business. When I traveled from the US to Brazil on motorcycle, I became very interested in revisiting Costa Rica one day. Finally I was able to build a vacation house there where my family and I have been able to spend great times together.
