About This Listing
Quiet two bedroom house. The second bedroom has a sofa bed. In addition there's an extra large sofa bed in living room. Kitchen/dining room looks out onto beautiful peaceful garden. It's minutes from town with park and river on doorstep.
This is a charming and comfortable home. What makes it particularly special is its great location. Town and country are just minutes away. Close to main bus routes, train station and cycle tracks. Main roads in all directions, including to the coast, are not more than five minutes drive.
The whole house and garden.
Interaction with Guests
I will either meet guests myself to show them round the house, or I will arrange for my next door neighbour to do so.
This is a very friendly neighbourhood just minutes from the centre of town (walking through the park) as well as a short walk (again through the park) to river Colne walks and High Woods Country Park. Cycle track to University of Essex and Wivenhoe begins at the end of the road. Colchester's historic castle is minutes away, as is the prestigious new Firstsite Gallery, at the opposite end of the architectural spectrum! I know the area and its surroundings very well and can give advice on best walks, cycle rides, places of interest to visit, etc. Local pub round the corner often hosts live music and special food nights and other events.
Colchester town station 10 mins walk (mainline about 20 mins), buses to neighbouring villages run from the end of the road.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Clare's lovely home. The house was larger than we were actually expecting, fully equipped, warm and cosy. Communication with Clare was excellent in the run up to our stay, she clearly wanted us to have a great visit, very thoughtful. The location was perfect, walking distance from the centre of colchester and a stone's throw from the castle and its fantastic park. Clare and her neighbours made us feel very welcome. There were even some toys for our 4 yr old. Great for kids and adults alike.
Clare's home is warm, inviting and filled with beautiful artwork. It was the perfect base for myself and three friends while we attended a wedding in a nearby village. The space was an ideal size and location, near to both stations in Colchester and right next to a beautiful park - which we were lucky enough to visit when the sun was shining!
Clare got back to me almost immediately and everything was organised well in advance. As she couldn't be there when we arrived, she arranged for key collection from a neighbour and all ran smoothly.
I would recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in Colchester.
Clare truly was a wonderful host, she was very welcoming and let us have her home for the whole month while we were working in Colchester.
We opened a pop-up Cafe in Colchester for the month and Clare often nipped into where we were working to see how we were getting on and had a cup of tea - it was really warming to see that Clare not only let us stay in her house but also supported the project so much!
Her house is very clean, comfortable and has the most comfortable sofa beds anyone could ever stay on.
We really couldn't thank Clare enough for letting us stay in her wonderful home!
Delightful, tasteful family home with a beautiful, relaxing garden in a great location (Castle Park, with many innovative playgrounds, is at the end of the road). Clare was accommodating and convivial, clearly good with children and organised but relaxed. We couldn't have asked for a better way to spend a single night in Colchester with plenty of space and parking, feeling reassured that we had everything we needed, including Lego and toys for our little boy and a good, quiet night's sleep for all of us.
Clare was a pleasure to deal with, communication was prompt & friendly. Clare arranged for her lovely neighbors to welcome us and they made themselves available for any of our questions/needs.
The property description is slightly misleading as it says "two bedroom house with extra large sofa bed in living room", but one of the two bedrooms mentioned does NOT have a bed, instead it has a sleeper sofa. This felt more like a one bedroom house with a sleeper sofa in the downstairs living room (which owner called a bedroom) and a sleeper sofa in the upstairs living room (which felt like a converted bedroom). Because two of us moved from the down stairs sleeper sofa to the upstairs (more comfortable) sleeper sofa there wasn't an area for us to lounge, except around the kitchen table.
The other problem we encountered was that when we tried to watch tv (the only amenity listed for the property) we discovered that it wasn't working.
Clare provided parking passes for the on street parking, but because of the property's close proximity to town, parking was in great demand and there were times we had to repeatedly circle the block or wait on the street for a spot to become available. I wouldn't consider the parking a deterrent, just something to be prepared for.
