The Old Post Office is a self-catering holiday cottage with spectacular views across Loch Torridon to Beinn Alligin and Liathach. The cottage is situated in the remote crofting village of Arrina on the north coast of Applecross peninsular.

The space

The area is of exceptional natural beauty, perfect for outdoor activities, wonderful walks, loch fishing and bird-watching, or just for lazing, reading, photography or painting.

The kitchen, a modern extension with wonderful views across the loch, is well-equipped with gas cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, dish washer and radio. There are two double bedrooms, one being twin bedded, as well as a small child’s bedroom. Bed linen is provided but please bring your own towels.

The comfortable sitting room has an open log fire, guidebooks, maps, games and a DVD player. Off the front porch, the old Post Office room is now a peaceful library with a fine selection of books, an iPod player and a solid-fuel stove.

There is a shower room on the ground floor. A washing machine and dryer are located in the toolshed.

There is oil-fired central heating throughout the cottage which ensures warmth throughout the year.

Kind neighbours see to the changeover between guests.

Arinacrinachd (Arrina) is an ancient settlement, probably Pictish if not earlier, with its own Standing Stone. It is a magical spot with superb views across Loch Torridon. You can observe Bein Aligin, the most beautiful mountain in Scotland, veiling and unveiling all day long.

Directions will be provided on confirmation of your booking.

Our change over day is Saturday. Arrive after 4 pm depart by 10 am. Linen: We provide all bedding, tea towels and cleaning materials but please bring your own towels. We include reasonable use of electricity and logs.

I can not more highly recommend staying at the Old Post Office. If you are craving silence and the beauty of nature it will be perfect for you. It is wonderfully clean and comfortable with every thing you could possibly need. The view from the kitchen window is more incredible than you can imagine. The changing light is a tonic for the soul. The whole area is a nature lovers paradise, we saw so many wonderful firsts for us including sea eagles, stags, pine martens and golden eagles. We even saw dolphins in the Loch from the garden! What is also wonderful is that it's perfect for whatever you fancy doing, although it's a paradise for walking and exploring the area, you also need not go anywhere as you are surrounded by beauty at the cottage. The bench outside in the sunshine was glorious. Thank you again.

If you are looking for a remote, peaceful and beautiful place to watch the weather change, relax and explore this remote part of the western Scottish coast, we unreservedly recommend the Old Post Office at Arrina.

Best ever holiday in the West. Cycling, walking and enjoying the simplicity of the cottage and area. No TV, mobile or Internet during our stay was a welcome distraction from the election. Thank you for the privilege of staying!

Our family stayed at the old post office for five nights and really enjoyed it. The location is spectacular and the house itself very nice (not fancy but great character). If you are looking for a quiet stay in a beautiful area, this fits the bill. I should add that it is very remote, driving times will be much longer than anticipated and the roads are narrow, twisty, hilly and single track - not for the faint of heart!

Wonderful, characterful and well loved family home with **spectactular** views across Loch Torridon of the awesome Torridon mountain range. We enjoyed plenty of sunny days exploring the Applecross, Gairloch and Torridon areas, and have seen seels, red deer, cuckoos, woodpeckers, birds of prey, and many brightly coloured garden birds from the house as well. We loved the incredible views and relaxing in front of the open fire in the evening after a day of walking. We have bookmarked this property and hope to come again to enjoy once more it's comforts and views, and the wonderful area.

We have loved our stay in this comfortable, characterful cottage with breath taking views. The kids loved it too and there is lots around for the very young as well as more challenging stuff for the adults. Lots of great food around, we enjoyed the boat trip, inverewe gardens, a couple of mountain walks and lots of shorter 'potters' along the sea- or loch-shore. We had all extremes of weather and the cottage was warm in the hail and sleet and open-feeling and airy in the blazing sunshine. Very friendly neighbours too. Thank you.

Marie-Laure is a university teacher, mother of two and grandmother of 5. Having travelled extensively over the past 40 years, Asia is where my heart is. My late husband Anthony and I built our villa eight years ago on Koh Samui to give us a base from which to travel the region. We chose this spot for the amazing views, quietude and beauty of the flora.
I also have a very sweet cottage in the north west highlands of Scotland on the Applecross peninsula looking out to Skye and the Torridon Mountains. It encapsulates the very meaning of escapism. We are very happy to share our homes with like-minded guests who appreciate the peace and beauty of nature of our special places.
