Charming 1940's cottage with serene backyard convenient to downtown mall, Monticello and UVa grounds.
This perfectly situated cottage near downtown Charlottesville offers everything you need to explore our beautiful town. The home features a large kitchen, wood burning stove and beautiful back yard with a creek.
Our tidy little home comes stocked with all the standards: towels, linens, paper products, coffee and tea. And also the sorts of things you might find at a good friend's house. Firewood for a fire, charcoal for the grill, wine aerator, picnic basket, reusable water bottles for hiking, camping chairs for tailgates, card games... you name it! Just help yourself and return for the next person to enjoy.
The backyard is home to lots of birds including cardinals, blue jays, grackles, doves, robins, downy woodpeckers, cowbirds, gray catbirds, house sparrows, white breasted nuthatches, wrens, tufted titmouse, house finches and hummingbirds.
We have a secondary twin mattress that can be set up on the floor of the treadmill room if you are traveling with a child or need a second bed. Just inquire when booking.
Sorry, we are unable to accommodate pets.
Interaction with Guests
We love to meet guests to show them around the house if it works with our schedules. Otherwise there is a lockbox that makes checking in and out a breeze! I am via phone and email during your stay and if we are out of town we will provide you with a local contact in case anything comes up. We grew up in Charlottesville and are very happy to offer recommendations about attractions, hiking, restaurants, bars and local events.
Woolen Mills Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places. The district got its name from a textile manufacturing facility that opened in the 1820’s and produced cloth for Confederate soldier's uniforms during the Civil War.
The house is directly across the street from Meade Park which hosts Meade Park Market, Charlottesville’s first growers only market on Wednesday evenings May through September. There is also a water park and a great playground.
You can walk through the neighborhood about a half-mile to Riverview park, a winding trail that follows the Rivanna river popular with walkers, runners, young families and people with dogs. There are several restaurants in Woolen Mills, including the neighborhood pub Beer Run, which was awarded Draft Magazine 100 best beer bars in the US.
Close to EVERYTHING:
0.7 mile to the Historic Downtown Pedestrian Mall
2.5 miles to University of Virginia grounds
4 miles to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello
25 miles to Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive
There are many wineries, breweries and cideries in the area. We have worked in wineries before and can provide ideas and recommendations based off your interests.
There is ample parking in front of the house. You can catch the bus (route 1) a few houses down or walk downtown, to the river, to beer run or several other local eateries.

We had a great time at Emily's cottage. It is very clean, cozy, with a super comfortable bed. The outdoor space is amazing for chilling.
My boyfriend and I came to Charlottesville to run the marathon and we had an EXCELLENT time at Emily and Alex's house! They were extremely responsive and knowledgable answering all of our Cville questions before we arrived, and they had great local recommendations. They were out of town while we were there, but we were welcomed by a nice note and a bottle of wine!
The house is very cute and has everything you could want, including a back porch and a very comfortable bed. The location was great as well! It's walking distance to the center of town and to the Belmont area.
I would definitely recommend staying at Emily and Alex's cottage for your Cville visit, we would absolutely stay there again!
My boyfriend and I spent the weekend here while we looked for a place of our own and explored our surroundings. Emily and Alex were great hosts, we even grabbed a beer with them. Checking was easy, we checked in at our connivence. The neighborhood was super quiet, safe and close to many restaurants and bars. It was a little chilly so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the back deck but we were able to get cozy by the wood stove and enjoy some local wine and chocolate that emily provided for us. Thank you emily! The apartment was really clean and comfortable. Emily was accessible if we needed.
We stayed here for four nights while I was reading at the Festival of the Book, and it was wonderful. There's a separate living room, kitchen, room to put down two kids for the night, and bedroom. It's directly across the street from a great park and a fifteen-minute walk from the east edge of the Downtown Mall. Even the neighbors, when we brought our kids to the park, were friendly. Clean and cool. Highly recommended.
We could not have asked for a better host, experience and location than Emily and her cottage in Charlottesville. The location is simply perfect. It's within easy walking distance to downtown Charlottesville and it's many fine establishments (not to mention a block from Beer Run). The cottage is tastefully decorated, cozy and absolutely perfect in every way. Emily was an amazing host. Everything was arranged and taken care of before our visit. Emily was as reachable or unreachable as desired. It was a great experience that we would recommend to anyone who is visiting Charlottesville.
Staying at the Cville Cottage was perfect. The house was very cute and yet big enough so that you never felt like you needed anything bigger. Emily made sure everything was perfect for our stay and even provided information on activities we had mentioned we were interested in. There was nothing that was overlooked or missing from the house and staying there was effortless. We can’t wait to stay there again.
We had a card on the counter with basic information as well as a bottle of wine and chocolates to make us feel welcome, so it was definitely more than we expected. In addition, she had a visitor's guide to the area on top of the loads of information she had made available through emails which allowed us to get a sense of the area before ever setting foot. The key lockbox worked like a charm because we arrived late. All in all, a beautiful stay! And not to mention a stack of logs, kindling and newspaper all set for the rustic wood-burning stove. Awesome stay, would be happy to return!
I'm a cville native and absolutely adore this town. It is such a joy to get to share our home and community with airbnb guests! I love to explore new places near and far from home. Locally we frequent breweries, farmers markets and the beautiful hiking trails of the blue ridge mountains. I am a nurse and my partner, Alex, is an artist who works with kids.
